He hasn't been around for a while. He didn't tolerate fools gladly, I hope the the fool/non-fool ratio didn't get too high for him to put up with! ;)

He knew the business better than most and always had insights that were spot on. Is there another forum somewhere that people end up on when they give up on here?

I think he moved on from microstock, but may be here as a lurker.

I'm surprised. He seemed to be doing well on the business side, but was getting very frustrated with the forum. Whatever he's up to I wish him well.

I used to get annoyed with him sometimes but the forum was better when he was active.  Same goes for many others that knew their stuff but gave up on this forum.  Still don't know anywhere better to discuss microstock or I would be there, if they let me in  :)

I wondered the same thing.  I didn't always like Gostwyck's rough manner, but he was experienced and had a good perspective.

Also miss Baldrick's Trousers.

They were both very successful so I guess they are still in microstock, just not on the forum.

The very obvious decline in activity on MSG reflects an accelerating loss of interest in microstock.  This should be a red flag to the agencies - except all their execs are in meetings discussing either their stock price, or who might buy their companies.

Agree.  Plus how big their bonuses will be.  Interesting word play - they get bonus when they bone us.

I think that the main reason so many people stopped posting here is because someone (can't remember who) was booted out of Fotolia after criticizing them on this forum. Shorty after that, some big earners disappeared right away, and I think they were worried about their bottom line. They probably didn't want to see $$$$'s fly away, that simple.

Agree with Alisa. The decline here is easily compensated by the rise in traffic and talk in all kinds of closed google/facebook groups.

You dont stop people from sharing information if you kick good contributors out, you just drive the communication underground.

Production levels havent dropped, if SS is now getting over 700 000 images a week.

I read posts from a lot of top selling to mid level microstockers saying they have dropped or stopped production.  I am one of them, but def not alone.

Those massive numbers are from the volumes of new contributors producing LCV stuff, or the few factories who are still big enough to make a go of it.

Thanks for the compliment. I've got a lot of stuff going on at the moment that's got in the way of doing stock but I'm hoping to get back into the swing of it some time in the next year. Meanwhile, I lurk here from time to time.
I'm not sure if a public spat I had with Gostwyck may have had something to do with him being less active here. I hope not.

But you have to realise that with tens of millions of images online they no longer need us very much, they can just keep on selling the old stuff - there's still plenty of new material coming through, anyway. And it's better for the agencies to have the earnings spread more thinly among the suppliers because that means that it takes longer for people to get paid so the money sits in the agency's bank accounts improving their credit rating (or acts as a free bridging loan for the day-to-day expenses).

Yes that summarizes the situation.  The interest has shifted from acquiring good new photos to making big "deals" to "monetize their assets".   They now see their huge archives as assets which they virtually own - because they only need to make token payments to contributors, and no one seems to be pulling out no matter how low those payments go.

At some point in the future, those archives start to look dated and buyers will be getting restless.  But that's the future - not something that people talk about in a company that recently went public, or is being set up for sale.

Welcome back BT, and Merry Christmas!

Your insightful posts in this thread show why you are such a valued community member.  Glad to hear you have other projects going and hope they are lucrative to make up for the decline in micro earnings.

me too.. (in red) .. but i am sure gos is not that little minded to want to say something at you and then run away to cry because we talk back. as they say, people who live in glass houses should not throw stones.
i never took gos as a feeble mind , that is why when he shouts i shout back
because i know he can take it like a good fighter in the ring.
we do it with our drinking buddies at the pub , maybe even worse than i give it here in the forum..
but really, we are here to speak up... or else it won't be a forum.

if you want to have everyone agree you with like a lemming, you should indeed form a fan-club or direct everyone to your fb where they can shine your shoes.

thanks to everyone here we are still in the same boat...
we're not here to fight against each other; more like to agree to disagree.

and yes, i am one who is very much against whoever drove lisa away for speaking up.
shame.. if you're lurking lisa, don't stay away in 2016.
this forum should not be like c*nva  ;)

ok, have a happy holiday too !!!   see you in the next round  ;)

p.s.
and yes, i am still not going to use the SHIFT key. i have better things to do with my middle finger 8)

OK, I'll bite.
What kind of keyboard do you have which has the shift key in a position which is convenient for your middle finger?

I did think that comment to you was rude, esp when there is another regular on here whose over-use of the shift key bemuses me no end.
Still, I'm the Typo Queen, and people who live in glass houses ...
