Im a 40 year Gin Guy. Think I've had them all. But a client gave me a bottle of 24 yr old ballentines scotch he bought at an estate sale. Man....Like butter.

My tips: Bowmore 21yo, Talisker any-yo, Glenmorangie Signet no-yo. Single malts.

Funny that because once I was also given a just over 20 year old Ballentine, saved it for a special occasion and guess what, it tasted terrible, sour and everything. Somehow, air must have contaminated the bottle.

Yeah, after a few shots, they all taste the same, dont they? I always polish off a few after an IS-best match, how about you?

I was a cognac drinker (Remy Martin) many years ago when I first tried Jack Daniels and it was nasty. I did not like the taste.

Now, when I'm in the mood for a drink I prefer Stolichnaya straight up.

Yes DifyDave hit the ultimate answer. The one in the glass you are holding. But if it's a single malt, that makes it much smoother.

Personal favourites are Laphroaig and Portavadie Highland Malt. Worst ever whiskey experience, Hong Thong....infinite number of yucks!

Well everybody has different taste buds. I once read that only people with a certain gene like scotch, to people without that gene it tastes like turpentine and cr*p.

Jack Daniels is the same thing, you have to have the taste for it, bourbon is a whole different ball game from scotch. Southerners seem to love their bourbon. Personally I find the sweetness cloying.

Back to scotch: I don't think anyone has yet mentioned Knockando. It might just be the very best single malt scotch.

Another whiskey lover here

5 years ago i went on a whiskytour in Scotland and since then i'm sort of collecting whiskeys..
I love the fruitier Speyside whisky's like Cardhu and Cragganmore but i can apreciate the Island whisky's too.
Did you know btw that a whisky on the rocks is not a whisky with ice, but with a cold pebble from the river? At least i was told so by a funny old Scot

Jack D. and J&B is a totally different category, best to be mixed with cola ;P

True! a genuine whisky on the rocks is with cold pebbles or something, old Scotish fly-fishermen standing in cold icey rivers used to drink it that way. there is a small private Pub, way up in the highlands, still serving it that way.
