Title: Is collage like this good ?
Post by: niserin on February 11, 2009, 14:14
I did recently my very first collage. What I have heard about them is that they are good sellers.
However, I am not sure if I did it well ...
Here is one:

Should I send it like that or change something? Or even maybe send these pictures separately ?

Thank you for opinions

I´d take away all the lines. It definitly limits the use of each small image.  Try both single and collage.   It looks fresh, and will probably sell well:)

As a personal trainer I can tell you now that personally it looks great but I dont think it will sell well. People are looking for full images of exercises and you have a couple where a line cuts off the body. That to any gym or fitness professional will not be useable.

I think if you uploaded it without the lines then it could sell very very well

It's great but I would not cut it up like magnum/anton9 said.

Actually I have never submitted anything like this and always wondered if it was better sales wise to submit the individual files instead?

I added these lines not only for esthetic reasons (I thought it looked well, like a background - ready to use), but also to avoid giving away 6 pictures in one.
But look at that picture:

Although it is cut with lines it is very popular

The difference with yours though is that it would only be used by a very specific buyer and they would always want the full images otherwise they wouldnt purchase it but if need be give it a go you may prove us wrong :)

I don't want to prove anybody wrong :). I may take these lines away of course. Then, would it sell better, then 6 individual images ? According to your experience - what is more profitable ?

Try everything.(in different batches). single, collage, lines or no lines.    SS will take em all:)    I just gave myself an idéa...

Well I know that you dont want to give away 6 images in 1 but personally I say still do it that way there are so many fitness images out there and if you offer six exercises all same model same outfit as yours is then I think you would sell it much much more that way. Why not upload it with the lines taken out and upload all images seperately incase a buyer might just want one of those exercises but a larger file.

Ah ok. Now I see where you are going. Then maybe drop the bevels/gradients and stick to a white line (just my preference).

Yeah try them all. Then of course you must report back here and share your results.  :)

This guy (http://www.istockphoto.com/user_view.php?id=1175962) seems to have done well with his collages.

I would try them both ways, separately and as a collage.

I did with this one, the individuals shots have all sold but the collage just gets looked at.
Different strokes for different folks.

I agree that would be much more useful to designers without the bodies being cut in half. If I have to glue someone back together, that is more work for me and if I'm in a hurry, I might pick an image that doesn't have to be fixed like that.

I think you could do very well selling the figures together, but if it were me, I wouldn't do that anywhere that pays 25 cents for sub downloads. I'd only upload the individual images there.

Very nice images, by the way.

Thank you for your comments.
I've decided to send a collage but in small size (3000x2000 px) and after some time send full big sizes separately.
See how they do.

Well this thread inspired me to try a collage of my own. I also wanted to get a XXXL file online. At first it was rejected for overfiltering so I sent it to scout and today it was approved! Hooray!

It is 10 large size files that designers can use individually or it can be used as a stand alone abstract. I do not plan on submitting any of the files separately and it is only available on IS. Am I nuts?
