As an Illustrator. I liked their submission process. Oh well. I hope the transition is easy.

I received this email from them:

Hello,

As you may have heard, Pixmac recently joined forces with Pond5, a New York-based stock media company representing a variety of media types, including the largest collection of royalty-free video on the web.  Since March 2013 we have been working hand-in-hand with Pond5 to deliver the best quality content to all of our valued customers.

To be able focus on our most important priorities and offer you a wider range of stock media, we will be redirecting the pixmac.com domain to pond5.com as of February 27, 2014.

Theres no need to worry!  All Pixmac images have been moved to Pond5.  You can find them, plus millions of others, here.

In addition, all prepaid credits and invoices are still available.  You can access them by logging in with your current username to pixmac.net, where you will also be able to find extra information how to transition to Pond5.

As always, if you need any help, just let us know at [email protected]!

Your Pixmac team
The Team at Pixmac :-)

I haven't seen that e-mail yet, but I would like some explanation how to upload to P5.  I have continued uploading my photos through PM and I understand the procedure is more complex at P5.

Also, I assume we will have a profile page, dashboard, etc. at Pond 5 now?

Pixmac got my photos from YAY and Pond5 got my photos from two other sources :-) It does not seem like both sites sell a lot.  Even videos I got on P5 do not sell anymore.

Your pixmax porfolio is here (2@ is the prefix for pixmac; 123rf was 1@ I think - each site had its own number)

So what is the current tally of sites that will close in the next month?

1. Pixmac
2. Photos.com
3. Jupiter Images
4. Punchstock

....any more? We are only 2 months into the year and 4 agencies gone!

but all of those are owned by other sites now? I guess the surest way of removing competition is buying them out and then closing them.

Actually the upload process on P5 is simillar as on Pixmac.  Upload files via FTP of web form set the price and send to curator. Easy fast and convenient and by the way P5 is the only agency I really like and refer all potential buyers to them. I set the price share 50%-50% profit, pleasure to deal with them.
Wish all agencies to be like them!

Very true. Just surprising to see how quickly things are changing this year already. Will 2014 be the year of the closure?

EDIT: Just received an email telling me I made a sale at Pixmac - wish it was at Pond5 instead!

Someone here can tell me how combine my pixmac portefolio image with my video on my pond5 account ?

It was a while ago that I asked Pond5 about combining accounts and they said they couldn't - they didn't have the high res files. I had pixmac files mirrored there which they could immediately remove, but I'd have to upload them again to Pond5.

The letter apparently said the content will be moved, but it may be it'll be moved into the 2@xxx account, not your "real" Pond5 account.

I have a 2@jsnover account although it's empty - I asked pixmac to leave a week or so ago after finding my images on ImageTrail (via Pixmac). Unfortunate timing as I would have kept the $12 if I'd have had the files moved to Pond5 :(

I've send contact email to get answer. I'M sure I'm not the only one in this situation. I don't want to have 2 account. Or neither have to reupload my pixmac images.

Log into pixmac and there is a link (easy to miss) "Transfer account" in the right sidebar

enter your pond5 account details in the form and my understanding is that this merges/moves all your photos into your existing pond5 account (or a new one your have created if you dont already have one)

I think that's for buyers only, isn't it? I thought as a contributor, you don't need to do anything, the merging goes automatically.

What will happen with the credits I have earned on Pixmac? Does that get transferred to Pond5 too? Anyone knows?

Just got an answer

we're currently in the process of merging all photographers' accounts on Pixmac and Pond5, not to worry though as you can still utilize both accounts for the time being and accrue sales on both sites as we will continue to sell content on Pixmac for several more months. To see your sales simply go to pixmac.net and look at 'payouts' to ask about your current inventory of sales.

The merger will happen over the next few weeks and we will let you know if we need any assistance from your side.

Thanks for the responses JoAnn and Fritz.  I'll try and transfer my account as per instructions above.

Nope.  No such luck.  I opened a new seller account at Pond5, but they are going to have to figure out how to transfer my stuff from 2@lisafx to the new one.

So far a bit of a PITA.  Communication about this is very poor.

the microstock industry reached the last stage ... merges/acquisitions, polarization, and finally some maturity about prices, services, etc

i see it as a good news, it doesn't mean this industry is dead, it just shows that it reached its apex and now it will keep going the way it is.

the times where every month there was a new player in the arena are definitely over, and we can certainly expect more M&As soon .. in the end the market will be made up of the big 4 and just 3-4 small agencies at most.

Jonathan, thanks very much for your clear explanation. I'm relieved to hear that Pixmac artists will still be able to access that site and continue business as usual. Very good news!
