My "2023 Pond5" so far:

- 15 videos sales with an RpD of $3,62 (which is very low)
Video portfolio size is about 3.000

- 1 image sales with an RpD of $2,13
Image portfolio size is about 20.000

Pond5 is really not doing well in 2023 so far

You likely need to grow your port with more video uploads and maybe diversify with clips in categories of higher demand.

Very poor sales for me in January and February. It was much better in previous years. I have over 15k clips online. Something strange is happening.

About a year ago, I used to get a video clip sale about once every 10 days or so. Now I'm lucky to get one sale every 3 months.  :(

P5 is primarily a stock video site, if anyone does sell imagery there pretty sure their revenue is very small in comparison to video.

7% of my P5 revenue comes from photos.
It takes zero effort to upload them with StockSubmitter, so not doing it is a revenue loss.

My P5 Jan + Feb 2023 is 13% better than Jan + Feb 2022

Shutterstock announced their "good news" about finalizing the Pond5 takeover I think around Jan 2023.

And yes - so far - jan/feb were about 60% lower than both previous months & previous years, march about 40%... perhaps the "good news" from shutterstock is they somehow found another way to steal revenue... not sure... but, the timing is interesting.

Also SS sales seemed to do a bit of a noisedive - like they decided all the assets are now only $0.25. So gotten a lot of vid clip 'sales' for $0.25 from SS...

Could of course be other factors, manufactured "world events" the moneylaundering going on for 'savingukraine' campaigns... (Of course, different topic - and any innocent bystander its very sad what is happening on both sides)... Or other things like that. Not sure.

My sales on P5 have been few and far between for a long time now. And if SS is taking over, I could only imagine things will get worse (especially with regards to royalties.) However, around mid January, I received a $46.40 HD video sale via P5. So good things can still happen at least for the time being. Though later down the track, one can only guess at what plans SS have in store for P5.

The first three months of this year are twice as good as in 2022 on Pond5.
But I see a significant drop in SS. First of all because of cheap sales.

In the first three months, I have better sales on both P5 and SS, but sales at P5 come from buyers that pick several clips from certain collections, guess it's luck more than anything else.

Over on pond5 a producer with over 34 000 clips said he had no sales at all for several weeks. And it was an exclusive port.

But my tiny port with 1000 files had a few sales in Jan and Feb. Nothing in March so far.

Something with their algos must be off.

Annie, have you any sales since?

I am now full zero sales across more than a month now the dataset earnings have moved off the timeline chart. This is the worst I've seen Pond 5 in months, probably even a couple of years when my port was so much smaller. This is the reason why I would never go exclusive anywhere, especially Pond5.

ETA finally a sale come in today with a commission of $21.60. It's a long time between sales though.

Wow, that's terrible, Pace. What with all your beautiful establishing shots clips. No, I haven't, but I don't have those type of clips that you have. Mine are doing ok on Adobe and SS. Selling quite a few greenscreens at the moment on AS, and some aerials on SS are getting decent prices.

I miss the good old days where I would receive an email from P5 saying I had made a sale, and I didn't even need to look at it because I automatically knew the commission would be 50% of the price of the video.

Yesterday I received a commission of $2.80  :'(

I'm reaching out because I recently joined Pond 5 as a contributor, and I could use some advice. Despite having 900 videos in my portfolio, I haven't made any sales yet. It's been a bit discouraging, to be honest.
If you have any suggestions or tips on improving my chances of making sales on Pond 5, I would greatly appreciate it. Perhaps you've been in a similar situation before and found some strategies that worked for you. Any insights you can offer would be invaluable to me.

I have a significantly smaller video port compared to yours and when I first started in P5, it took me ages to get my first sale. May have been a few months but I can't recall. When I got my first sale, other sales started occurring not too long after. Another P5 contributor said their experiences were pretty much the same when they started. A very long wait for that first sale and then the flood gates are open. There were even instances when I would get a sale and then about a week later, I would get another sale.

Unfortunately later on, something happened. Something changed. Sales seem to have dried up. It's extremely rare when I get any sales from P5 these days. And it looks like other contributors are having similar experiences.

1. There will be very few sales on such a portfolio. Although Venice is promising, it will take a year or more to wait for sales.
2. Video amateur.
3. Buy a tripod and a gimbal, everything is not stable in your frame.
4. Venice is all editorial, and editorial is rarely bought. Understand that stocks are work, you don’t need to shoot only the editorial. Or you need post-processing, to blur trademarks, people's faces.
5. Before you shoot something, look at the same Pond5 to see how others have similar shots. Sorting by popular will show you the videos that get the most buys.
6. As a start, it will do. Other sites may have more sales.
7. In your case, 900 videos is about nothing. Bring your portfolio to at least 6,000 videos.
8. Your videos don't have enough tags, add up to 50.

Roughly about half of my videdo sales are editorial. Actually, my best selling video on P5 happens to be editorial.

Buy a tripod and a gimbal, everything is not stable in your frame.

Agreed. I see way too many shaky hand held videos in this port. And those pans need lots of improvement.

Woah, I just sold a video through P5. So rare when that kind of thing happens these days. $37.97 for an editorial video (HD resolution.) It's also nice to know that good commissions can still be had. In fact, for my previous sale though P5, I got the highest commission Ive ever had for a HD video.

Though my worry is how much longer will good commissions still be around for. It could only be a matter of time until the new owners (SS) run it into the ground.

i do agree with  suggestions however in my case I only buy Video Amateur specially with no gimbal or tripod. It's more authentic and less "candy" for what i need which is documentary footage. Sometimes it's better to make a difference in a niche like video amateur rather than go for pro videos although the potential for sales it seems superior if you invest in such equipment.

Also it's important to be aware of the other side of the coin: what it might seem trash for you can be gold to others.

My sales on P5 are not so common as they used to be. And the average RPD is lower too. Still I consider P5 a feasible business, but the integration in the Shutterstock family will surely end up in "exciting news" some day. So for the time being I stick to easy-made videos, as the videos that require more efforts are unlikely to pay back before the exciting news come.
