A few people are contact me about this light set again. I just want to say, I am not a referal for Boling, and there is no exchange of monies of any kind.
I ran across them by chance, and I know they attended PhotoKina.
I have been using the softbox set since around August 2008 and I am having a ball with them.
They have lots of good stuff in kits. But it does not suit North America's low voltage requirements. You would need to buy your own voltage adjustment.
Please contact Gino for enquiries, he seems to know his stuff.

The value of the portfolio is whatever someone is willing to pay for it. There are lots of formulas you might use for say, insurance. But the reality is finding someone who wants to buy it, and how much they are willing to pay.

Yes and with a bit of manipulation and combining different data, you can get some really interesting results. Like I discovered my RPI was .25 cents, well above the average.

I heard two men talking in a pub.
One said to the other: "My mother made me a gay." The other turned to him and said: "OH! Do you think if I gave her the material she would make me one as well?"

I thought they had a upload limit. It is called 95% rejection in my case.

I can see no reason why Elena would not get accepted. Her files are among the best in the world.

congratulations anyway. What a great way to start the new year getting into Getty. You should be proud of yourself.

These are USD at Adorama. Sure you can do similar closer to home. This would be my pick for your budget, and help with portraits and landscapes.
Canon 50D body $1069 Canon 50mm f1.8 $85 Canon 28-135mm IS $ $299 (refurb) Sigma 10-20mm EX DC $420
50D has enough pixels to allow you to submit to Alamy without too much upsizing. The 50mm f1.8 is still my fave lens I use all the time on the 5D. And the Sigma 10-20mm is a fantastic landscape lens.
Then just buy a Phoenix or similar flash unit and you are a strobist.

I would like to see a stock photography agency that markets its portfolio direct to the customers.
Like, they ring designers, make appointments, turn up and go over the features and benefits of dealing with them direct to a buyer. Build a relationship with faces and actually see what the designer is doing.
In the USA, I am sure they could focus on NY or LA and find so many sales they never knew existed. Sell subscriptions, or ad-hoc sales.
Good old fashioned sales theory.

I think consolidation will be the key for those with a decent model, but low sales. Canstockphoto managed to find a buyer.
But a lot of these fringe businesses are just copies of the big players, so there is little to sell. So they will tank.

cool site. any help is good. I just joined.
Oh, and for those sites that need commas. Just cut and paste the keywords into Word.
Then go Edit>Find>Replace and then press the spacebar in the Find what?
in the Replace with: put in a comma and then press the spacebar
Hit the "replace all" and it will be done for you.

Yeah I can really see the porn industry being able to create disciplined compliance and reporting standards suitable to US Treasury.
Bail outs and stimulus packages don't work, never worked, and will never ever work.
This will work itself out in the end, and in 8 years from now everyone will forget what happened and make the same mistakes again.

Like everything in life, the Pareto Principle seems to fit. That is, the top 20% of contributors make 80% of the income.
The stock business is still evolving, and for anyone to base their whole income on it is a gamble. I would suggest if you want to be a professional photographer, do weddings, portraits and such, and use your spare hours to shoot stock.

Personally I bitch more about the weather when doing landscapes. The type of gear I have is just the tool I use. As far as microstock goes the creativity is more important, so you can do a mind dump, or check out the ideas of others.
A mate of mine has shot weddings for 30 years, and he reckons the secret to great wedding pics are:
1. Good looking bride and groom, 2. Great light, and 3. Great composition.

I failed in 2 out of 6.
I got a decent lens, I got a set of studio lights, and I got full frame all paid for by sales.
But my sales only reached $500 twice and are now back down to $250.
2009 goals:
1. 1,000 images with DT and SS. 2. Get accepted at Alamy and at least 1 other macro. 3. Get placed (first, second, or third) at least once in a landscape competition.

I have several for sale, but they are not big sellers. I use 3 images in Photomatix. Here are some examples.

Been a while since I have seen an advertisement for a reviewer, but the last time I did, they got paid a few cents for each image. Not sure whether that is per approval or not. It would be interested to find what motivates them. Perhaps they are all just in the good Christmas cheer mood ... ha ha

I seem to experience the opposite to a lot of people here. In November and so far for December my Dreamstime sales have been the best they have been for 18 months.
My SS is terrible, Snapvillage is way up, and even Canstockphoto is looking good.
