My upload was quick and easy and had quick approvals. Now have 170 approved images in less then 48 hours of submitting there ... I am now looking forward to my own sales there. http://graphicleftovers.com/ref=mwp1969/Mark

I don't contribute there, but I looked darn hard for a logo graphic at Christmas time and came up short.
Do they give buyer referrals? If so, I'll make sure I clear my cookies and tag onto someone if I go shopping there again.
Pixart, They do give buyer referrals as well. Thanks ! http://graphicleftovers.com/ref=mwp1969/-Mark http://markwpayne.wordpress.com

I didn't know you can set your own EL prices...where can you edit them?
this is only available to those members with 100 dl+, on the pager where you submit the image info.
Also subscription sales do not count one-for-one towards the 100 DL mark. Sub sales only count 1 for every 4 sales ... -Mark http://markwpayne.wordpress.com

I first came across "The MIZ" posts here on MSG a couple of years ago when I was first started in Microstock. I found his "Moody" fine art style of photos to be absolutely amazing and very inspirational. He and I exchanged a few personal messages here on the forum and I became a member of his site where I learned alot through many of his tutorials. He was always very helpful and always willing to share his knowledge. Without asking anything in return. I very much identified with his rogue and candid spirit. He could stand toe-to-toe with the best of anyone in just about any argument often taking either side just to get a rise out of people. The man was truly hilarious and often referred to himself as "The Cranky Miz." My condolences for the loss of your father. He is missed by many ... -Mark http://markwpayne.wordpress.com

For those that have a famous "Welcome to Las Vegas Sign" photo in their portfolio I recently saw a deck of playing cards for sale in a Safeway grocery store with that image on them ... I tried to determine who the image belong to but there are just too many of this particular type of photo on the major sites. If you have an EL on this type of image you might want to checkout the card decks at a Safeway. I am still looking for my first tear sheet -Mark http://markwpayne.wordpress.com

I joined GL today through a referral link on another thread. My apologies to the OP for not getting the referral. Since I have quite a few raster illustrations and continue to develop my vector skills ... I am looking forward to exploring and contributing to this site Best of Luck ! -Mark http://markwpayne.wordpress.com

Companies that I think are currently doing well by contributors are Cutcaster (we all know John's work ethic and how involved in the microstock community he is), Graphic Leftovers (Daniel and team are very responsive, very helpful, and actually asked my opinion on some new site design features), and Dreamstime is fair and responsive to member concerns. All three of these companies also pay fairly, Cutcaster paying 40%, GL paying 52%, and DT paying the tiered royalty scale that is certainly more fair than what many other companies offer.
Thanks for the info Mike. Of those three I am only on DT. I will agree, though, that of the big sites they offer the fairest deal to contributors.
I have never heard of Graphic leftovers. Are there any sales there?
I have been contemplating adding Cutcaster to my lineup to replace StockXpert or Crestock, but what I have been reading about sales volume has me holding back. Not to mention that the smaller sites seem to be folding like cheap suits all over the place.
Just started uploading to Graphic Leftovers and I have 3 sales already. I see there are others here with over 100 sales, so it looks like they have something going for them. If you do sign up, make sure to ask for an FTP account, it is the easiest upload, no categories, just upload and they appear in your portfolio. Suppose I had better leave my referral
Graphic Leftovers
Thanks for the referral link to GL Sharpshot. I'm going to try and give them a shot. -Mark http://markwpayne.wordpress.com

Tom,
For what it's worth, the iStock pictures I've opted into partner programs are all on ThinkStock. Nothing from SX has shown up there yet.

Probable Reasons for SS acquisition of BigStock acquisition Acquire a competitor Acquire their marketshare & customer base to compliment or augment their own Acquire their revenue stream ("Cash Cow" if BigStock were profitable on its own) Consolidate infrastructure & eliminate costs where applicable when and whereever possible (likely to happen in the future ... this is where we may see BigStock disappear one day) Hope that decision to make acquisition is a good one where 1+1 equals 3 when it comes to profit. Hope the acquisition isn't a bad fit like AOL+Time Warner. -Mark http://markwpayne.wordpress.com

Asking hypothetically ... What if Getty gets it right with ThinkStock and creates a viable competitor to Shutterstock's subscription model? How bad do things get for contributors? How good do things get for contributors? -Mark http://markwpayne.wordpress.com

I am really hoping for SS to take the reins of BigStock and find a way to capitalize on it. Sales there have really dropped off since SS took over. I hope there is a SS plan other than to do nothing and just accept BigStock for its existing revenue stream ... -Mark http://markwpayne.wordpress.com

Has anyone figured out what will be the benchmark metric to determine if the ThinkStock experiment is a success or not? Sounds like a nightmare for metrics ... (iStockPhoto, Hemera etc.) -Mark http://markwpayne.wordpress.com

I am curious as to what is considered to be a good industry standard benchmark RPI for both season veterans as well as those new to stock photography & illustration ... In my own personal effort to become a better stock photographer and illustrator I appreciate your input -Mark http://markwpayne.wordpress.com

Today my 800th SS image was approved. It took five weeks to reach my next step of 100 images approved at SS. This was a little slower than the previous 100 approvals. I worked on some high quality Valentines Day and anniversary type of illustration backgrounds as well as other raster and vector illustrations. These were more labor intensive during this period of 100 approvals. I anticipate a further slowdown in my uploading activities as I continue to explore vector illustrations in pursuit of higher returns. However even in this slowdown period I will continue with my strategy of uploading a new batch as each batch is reviewed. -Mark http://markwpayne.wordpress.com

Just for the sake of accuracy.
The only way to get files on IS is to have an IS account and upload them
The only way to get anything new on ThinkStock, is upload to IS and Opt In. There is no ThinkStock upload feature.
NO FILES ARE BEING MOVED FROM StockXpert TO IS!
Selected files from either StockXpert or IS at the time of the transition MIGHT be moved to ThinkStock. We have not been given details of this three phase program.
Think this information is somewhere at the forum already, but will make a note in this section just to sum everything up.
SXis now closed, instead we have a Thinkstock.
If you:
1) have a SX account and turned On selling through subscription and you don't have account at Istock, your portfolio will migrate to Istock 2) have a SX, turned Off selling through subscription and would like to sell images at Thinkstock you shall turn subscriptions On (My Account->Profile , flag point 7 and save changes) 3) have both IS and SX accounts and have subscription sells turned on at both - your SX portfolio will migrate to IS, but duplicates from IS pack will be deleted from SX one.
That is how I understood it Race ... thanks for your clarification. -Mark http://markwpayne.wordpress.com

I had one sales last week. It had been a long time without one.
Congrats! Madelaide on your sale, it is such a rare event nowadays for FP to make a sale, I can't even remember when it was the last time I made any kind of money with them...it's really getting tiredsome checking every week to see the same amount of $ just sitting there.
I get an email every time they sell something, saves time checking there. I had one recently but the lower prices and commissions have reduced my earnings. I used to get the same low number of sales but when I did get one, it was usually for a nice commission. Now it is really hard to see why I should stay there after my next payout. It will take a while to reach that, so they still have some time to improve but after the last few years, I don't see it happening.
I had much higher pricing which made up for slower sales there. Then they started making their changes. In 2008 ... $2.80 was on the low end of the commissions with $11.95 being on the high end. In 2009 .50 was on the low end with $2.50 being on the high end. Some Samples: $2.80 2008 $10.63 2008 $11.95 2008 $2.50 Nov 2009 $.50 Nov 2009 -Mark http://markwpayne.wordpress.com

This is the first mention from all of the sources I've seen that it is stated that StockXpert portfolio will migrate to IS. Is this correct? Did you mean "Thinkstock"? -Mark http://markwpayne.wordpress.com

@ Melastmohican: I think they are still migrating images, so hang in there, maybe they will show up.
@ Lisafx: See I have this dilemma. A lot of my older images that are on StockXpert are very unlikely to be accepted at Istock. Otherwise, I'd just upload everything at Istock and be on my way. I have probably around 30-50 on Thinkstock that came from Istock, but 300 or so from StockXpert.
In a similar situation myself ... 400+ at StockXpert and around 40+ or so at iStock. I did hear they are in Phase I of migration with Phase II, and Phase III still yet to come. -Mark http://markwpayne.wordpress.com

I am a little confused ... is this a raise across the cannister levels? Or is it a raise to the credit level? Or both ... If someone could clarify that would be great. Thanks. -Mark http://markwpayne.wordpress.com
