The main problem is that they become too skinny to see if you have a really wide one. I tend to make them the size I think suits them and trust to luck - but that's probably not the most earnings-effective strategy.
Thats right, they get too thin if they are very wide and the customer cannot see what is on the thumbnail. It is my experience that large files 16/9 sell better. Then people can cut them thin if they want. Anyway, it is important that panos have a striking and ballanced compositions, not golden sections as in normal formats. Compositions with voids can be ballanced.

It appears Sean wrote a script to help a lot of his competition remove themselves from his game.
Sadly for him that act of trying to be clever backfired and blew up in his face and then ended up earning him a microstock Darwin Award instead.
I guess he is a bit shocked by it all because he was just trying to help, right?
There is something to be said for keeping your head down, not stoking the fire, nor pissing off your boss if you still want to keep your job.
That is an interesting pont of view. To really give your opinion weight it would be nice if we could see who you were, or not were.

Thats what I said all the time: Istock is the pyramid game and getty is the nigerian scam. The istock rc sceme suggests they had come to the end of the pyramid, the google deal is a simple scam and theft.
More subtle analogies could be found in the animal kingdom among Trematoda and Hirudinea.

You are right, yet wrong. You over analyze.
You basically have 3 options: 1.. fly under the radar and do business as usual. 2.. venture into a mudfight and have fun awhile. 3.. think about your family and act accordingly.
What you should not do is mix the three, which again means that you should not post when you have been negotiating with a sixpack and have become emotional.

News: I just phoned Mostphotos, who explained that the newspaper is invoiced and that the sale will occur in my statistics when first the invoice is paid.
They also promised to take look on the MR problem (which they irresponsibly leave to the end-user to settle with the content owner) and they promised to rethink and eventually insert a phrase about demeaning usage of RF pictures.
So of the problem is solved. Mostphotos is not fiddeling with sales, they just work an oldfashioned manual procedure.

I send up a few hundred good pictures, that I know can sell. If they dont sell or I get annoyed, I take them down again.

Sean, first, Im sorry you have now lost an income. You have also gotten new oppertunities, I hope it will work out for the better for you.
Next, I saw it coming. Companies do not like activities like scripts that facilitates destructive actions. They have designed the site so its exactly as difficult to deactivate as they want, so we do not deactivate too quickly.
Then there are a few interesting things in how the case developed. 1.. You were informed in a telephone call (means you dont have any proof of what they said, and they are afraid of that proof, again means that their reasons might not hold water) 2.. They mentioned "the exclusive spirit". Means they are VERY afraid of upcoming alternatives. 3.. They mentioned that you have taken part in an undermining protest. Means that the protest hurt them, and since they kick you out, they are afraid of future protests. 4.. They have done the calculations and figured out that you and the protest has cost them more than you earn for them. Which is interesting, because then you know something about the financial impact of the protest. 5.. Timing. They kicked you AFTER the protest and not before. Means they waited to see how big the impact was, so it was bigger than they expected.
Best wishes...

I don't believe Lobo is the problem, just a symptom
That is right. A symptom. BUT he is moderating the delicate contributors forums in an international multi million dollar company, and not a forum for 22 bushcrafters in Ohio, and the last thing he should do is to annoy people and cause the company losses. Actually what he does compares to judges in big international sports events such as the world cup in soccer, and the judges there make sure to use a formalized and easy to understand language and try to avoid randomness and personal involvement. He annoyed me, and was one of the reasons I withdrew my pictures, and coming here in a half threathening way is utterly unprofessional and disgusting. I cannot believe istockphoto lets him do that. But then again there are many things about istockphoto I cannot believe. Sick company with many symptoms.

This morning I found a photo of my son in an online newspaper article about a crazy shooter. I contacted the newspaper and asked where they bought the picture and what licence they had obtained, and told them I was not happy with it. They informed me that the image was licenced via Mostphotos and also took the image down and replaced it with a generic police picture.
When I looked at my Mostphotos account I saw that the image has not been sold from Mostphotos. It had zero sales. They might have sold it, but I had not registered a sale.
I contacted Mostphotos for an explanation and gave them a short time limit to reply, else I would take the problem to an Internet debate. Which is what I do now.
Question is: Does Mostphotos sell pictures without paying the content owners?

Any admins who want to work actively with the community will need professional training to learn how to communicate effectively via social media. Especially because a very large part of the community does not have English as a first language.
A lot of nuances of English are simply not understood by a huge number of people. I used to point that out many times when I was working with the German language forum.
It looks like 2 years and various s**storms later suggestions by Michael and me are being read with a more open mind.
Right now it is just a shadow of what it use to be.
That is right! It is very important that forum admins can look a bit beyond the limitations of their native language. The agencies are operating in a global environment and it is not smart to convey your messages in "Calgary slang", that is widely not understood out there in the wider world. Lobo, since we are now talking about him, is especially difficult to understand for us outsiders.

I dont want to "recover". It is not me who has lost priveleges. It is Istock who has lost me. And Lobos presses of buttons has cost istock money.

I've actually added it to my facebook status. Terrific work. I think maybe you should consider a caption contest. I would be more than happy to participate in that.
As for this Banned from iStock Club: I understand. It's easy for you to speak about your experience without also taking into consideration the number of times I have had to contact people, delete posts, try as best as I can to rationalize why it's important for people to remain civil. I'm not perfect. I rise to the bait left out for me occasionally.
These are public forums too. We can all read them. Contributor Relations(who tend to get the worst of the frustration - see the deactivation notice thread you have going), Client Relations(they get the calls that should probably be going to Contributor Relations- no phone support is horrible, I know) and the few buyers who come in to see what is going on here. Everyone sees everything.
Anyhoo, I've already made it clear in the forum restructure thread that anyone who would like to discuss having their privileges reinstated are more than welcome to contact me via site mail on iStock. Clearly, not all of you have site mail either. So I suspect your best bet is via a support ticket.
Thanks, folks. Don't hate the player, hate the game
How dare you! I was very civil in the posts that got me banned, it was not name calling, it was critisism of the company. Do not come here and pretend that we were not civil. It is YOU who was not civil. Stepped on freedom of speech and didnt dare to listen to any critisism. Go away, find a shelter inside your maze of sulfurous delutions, called istock..

While every deal is not perfect out of the gate
Well uhm..... shouldn't they be perfect out of the gate? Why are they even in the gate in the first place if you don't like the deal? Sheesh!
That is the closest you get to a company admitting they made a deal that "did not meet expectations". And when they use the wording "out of the gate" it means that they were surprised by the consequences. Which again means that they were taken in the a...

Resources are limited.
The American dream is false. You can only get rich if 10 other people get poor. Unions made the basis for the Scandinavian wellfare model, which is very successfull. Read the Economist.
It all has to do with realizing that being rich can only come at an expense. Either natures expence, when you set up a sawmill in a virgin forest or if you abuse a population of miners. Riches comes from taking wealth from someone else, by exploiting other peoples work or opportunities or nature.
Unions are one of the means that can distribute riches more equally and together with envioronmental laws they can actually help riches being distributed to many hands instead of a few hands that hold the power. Societies thrive when their people are educated, healthy and productive.
