I put all mine on alamy, they might not sell for a year or more but when they do, they can make more than hundreds of downloads with the micros.

Why would anyone purchase photos taken with mobile phone? People can snap them them themselves!
You must shoot very, very boring images of things that are easy to shoot then.
That's all I shoot with my phone. I wouldn't trust the focus and quality to anything I thought was really important. Get home later and find the shutter was too slow, too much noise, or focus was somewhere? No thanks...
Sometimes I take a photo with my camera and then use the phone to get something a bit different. The depth of focus is usually huge, so not easy to get subjects out of focus. Can be useful for some situations. If you really need fast focus, this could be worth a look http://petapixel.com/2015/09/02/sonys-xperia-z5-premium-phone-first-4k-display-and-fastest-autofocus/

Dreamstime was a real player that used to pay 50%, Pond5 is for video and would be for stills if we all left the lower paying sites and just used them. Alamy is a real player paying 50%, I have no doubt we could all just use these sites and make more money but it will never happen. Its easy to blame the sites but the real reason we are stuck with sites paying 15 to 30% is all down to us. I found that out after deleting most of my istock portfolio only to see most of the big non-exclusive contributors uploading their limit every week despite getting less than 20%.

I've said many times any site...ANY site who comes in and offers a 50/50 Split across the board weather it's SS of FT or whoever could control the market as far as contributors. And the competition would dry up and go home. I for one would love to upload to one fair site instead of 9 frustrating Ones that are ripping us off and getting wealthy doing it. The time saved alone would be worth it, IF time is money and to me, It is.
Adobe could very easily have a complete monopoly if they wanted and that would justify a 50/50 split. If they did that Everyone would bail out everywhere else. But. It would probably be exclusive. Im In. Maybe Im just tired But....I would be in. And vice versa, If SS offered this, same deal.
50/50 split for exclusive you are right, they could take over and kill the competition at once.
And if they did kill the competition, you would be lucky to get 20%. Lots of sites have offered 50/50 or better and they haven't made contributors dump the sites that pay us a much smaller cut. So I doubt it would work and it would probably be bad for us to only have 1 site anyway.

Most of the sites have the same competition problem, the only way to increase earnings is to upload images that most people aren't supplying. Being in the UK is an advantage with alamy but I'm sure if I lived in another country I could still find something that sells there that hasn't already been done to death.

A decent smartphone should be as good as a compact from a few years ago and I have seen posters from my old compact. Just started with Stockimo, like the look of that collection.
Isn't that the app by Alamy where they only pay you 20% of the license fees whereas you get 50% when uploading with them through their website? This was something that had me confused when I had a look at it. Honestly asking for your experience and why you made that decision to supply them with images through the app.
I get 50%, I think the 20% is for people that weren't already alamy contributors when Stockimo started. If it puts new contributors off, that's less competition, so a good thing if you can get the 50%.

I don't think they are taking video seriously, no idea why they haven't opened it up for everyone like they have with stills? So I can't be bothered with them for video until they fully comit to it because it seems more likely that they will scrap video than be a big player at the moment.

There's no way it would be a forever deal. I think they want to get as many people on subscription as possibe, then the prices will go up. I'm still using elements 12, no idea why most people need anything more than that and a few bits of free sortware? The money I save goes on lenses, much more usefull to me than software.

I don't think that the poll results here during the lowest selling part of the year mean a lot, especially when our earnings will get slowly diluted with the huge number of new images on SS every week. Still don't see any real competition for SS with microstock. If they do try and take on Getty for the higher priced market, things could get interesting.

SSTK hit the top ten most shorted stocks on the NYSE a few days ago.
I didn't know that - that is a distinction I assume most companies would want to avoid. Now I'm glad I didn't buy any.
the only ppl who would want a stock to be shorted are those aiming for the company to fall or go broke so they make a big profit when they have to buy back the shares they borrowed from the brokers. so really, it is not in any company's interest to be top of short selling list, more like they are signing their own death warrant as the ppl are aiming to make a killing like vultures waiting for the carcasses.
very unethical ppl aiming to make a lot of money from an over valued stock already in a free fall.
What percentage of people that short stocks make money from it? I think its much less than people think. I was never very good at it Some people use spread bets to short rather than sell a stock when they would have a big capital gains liability. Then the spread betting companies have to short the stock to cover their liability. So it often isn't the case that people shorting a stock want the company to fail or go broke and many of thiose that do are little more than gamblers that usually lose their money.

I don't get how you can be doing this for a month and closed your other accounts a month ago? Some sites take months to start selling, I see no point being exclusive with fotolia when they can change the search and your sales will fall off a cliff, that's happened to many of us.

Fotolia made it harder and harder for me to increase earnings with their site and then my downloads fell off a cliff. That was so demotivating that I stopped uploading. Nothing has changed since Adobe took over, I still see no incentive to upload new images when my earnings are so low. Doesn't really matter who owns the site when I can't make much money there, I hope they do something to improve the situation, it can't really get any worse than it is now.

Alamy don't edit and have over 60 million images and my sales are increasing. I think the search takes care of a lot of the rubbish and I'm shocked how much my worst stuff sells on some sites. Alamy and SS wouldn't have such a huge collection if it wasn't working for them. I think its obvious that some buyers like edited collections but others want to see as much as possible, there's room for both types of stock sites.

Nice, I don't like 3D but VR is interesting. Doesn't seem to be a lot of interest from photographers at the moment but I think there will be in the next year.

Just got a Ricoh Theta and had some fun with it today. Probably never use it for stock but if you have Google cardboard or a similar VR viewer, this does make it feel much more like you are there. The quality is poor but I still like it. https://theta360.com/s/2PmB2BsA1U1vg7XxQw5wn5fwuIf anyone else here has a Ricoh Theta or anything that can be use to produce 360x180 photos, please post them here.

I lost a lot of faith in SS over how they ran BigStock. Theirs no excuse for owning a site that starts to follow the flawed strategy that istock implemented. Just look at BigStock in the earnings polls, they were doing better for most of us as an independent site.

Numbers don't matter. You have to find what buyers want that isn't already oversupplied. Gets harder every year but I'm sure anyone that really wants to make money can still do it if they have the right strategy. I used to upload everything and most of it sold but now there's no point competing with what's already there.

I'm still doing much better with SS than FT. Not seen any improvement in sales with FT since Adobe took over.

I have 97 files on stocksy. Last month I earned around 220 dollars with 6 sales, including one extended license. Even without the extended license stocksy always outperforms all other agencies considering my tiny port and not very "typical" stock content. Cant begin to imagine how much the people with thousands of files are making.
So yes, financially they are absolutely worth it. I think if someone wants to live fulltime from stock photography, then stocksy is probably by far one of the best options right now.
However, stocksy is not a generalist, like Masterfile, or Corbis or Getty. They are a very niche, themed collection. They do what they do exceptionally well, but it is highly specialized and I doubt that stocksy style content if placed in other agencies or "environments" would sell this well. Mine certainly wouldnt. Maybe the content from the superstars, who will sell wherever they go, but not me.
The quality of the editing and how they all make it work together is a key part in the success of stocksy. So you cannot just upload what you want, it has to make sense overall. And if the editors decline images or a series, it is not a commercial decision, i.e. the file or the series can make you a lot of money, you just have to find a different home for it. It simply wasnt what they needed.
It is a more personal atmosphere, small group of people compared to the other places, more direct interaction with the editors and the art guidance they give you what the customers want for the niche.
I am very grateful to be part of the project, so I can certainly recommend applying if the style they focus on interests you. And you dont have to do only stocksy, some people seem to be 100% involved, others mix stocksy with other agencies and other styles. Since I personally love to experiment, I see stocksy as a fascinating learning experience, because the quality is so high and so many talented artists are there. And yes the money is very good, so i am trying to increase my portfolio after spending a year doing mostly video and smartphonestock. But I have to really work hard and become a much better photographer to live up to the stocksy level.
Beautiful collection, I love browsing it, feels like going on a holiday.
Thanks for the info, I will apply again when I get a bunch of photos that I think fit their style. If they reject me, then alamy can have them

Is it worth giving exclusive images to Stocksy instead of uploading to all the micros and alamy? Their sales would have to be good to make me want to join. I never got a response to my initial application and I'm not sure I can be bothered now.

Wow, that's a huge amount of deletions. I hope they realise that most of us wont bother spending time uploading while this is happening and they are going to be losing a lot of business, as buyers will be getting images from other sites.
Lee hasn't been on here since 25th June but surely someone from Canva has some interest in their image contributors?
