you might make more selling logos at 99 designs or wherever?
i had to chuckle at the descriptions: perfect, ingenious, cheerful and fancy. that may just become a new catchphrase for 2013. "cheerful and fancy" lol

im not 100% sure, but the agencies want them in English? at the risk of sounding obvious, did you google for such a thing first?

so, the trick to FT is to upload small amounts, regularly? what is small I wonder.....? I find their whole website tiresome to use, and if it weren't the fact many others like them and they are in the Top 4, i'd think they were were in the canstock region...... I only look in there every other month, when I've got a few hours to waste.

not for me. I haven't voted yet, with PP I can sneak into the 100+ spot I'm hoping. FT was utter shyte for me in December, equal WMY. I realise I won't tip the scales but despite all the rubbish iS still is my #1. I hate hate hate their policy of apologising to customers by offering discounts that we pay for.
DP beat DT and 123 in my world.

123 were my "first" so I still hold a soft spot for them. other small agencies with irritating uploads and ridiculous standards can go to hell, but i'll stay with these guys a while longer. I do confess to spending more time with DP than 123 this past month, just to get my port up to speed there; and they did outperform them last month....... interesting times all round.

why thank you. I have a tiny port compared to the greats here, but I'm trying to not upload junk just to pad it out, so it's slow going to get myself up there with the serious pros who just keep making great stuff. (I get most cross when DT does its "similars" thing at me, cos I already vett my uploads pretty heavily). what's the name of the corporation from the Terminator films? why do I think of that when I hear yours? it's def got a coolness to it. and for the record, I hate the names: 123RF, how lazy is that name?? dreamstime is a bit of tragic jinglish, isn't it? Getty is a surname? (you can only name your business after your name if its cool, IMHO, which is why my disjointed dutch saffer surname doesn't get featured much, but I do use the "van" part). Don't get me started on Fotolia! (I hate that kind of thing, but that's the teacher-in-a-former-life in me peeking through.) me, opinionated? nahhhhh

so sorry to hear about this family loss, Tom. I couldn't agree more about how important it is to take pics of our loved ones. Often we only photograph the kids and the grownups have decades of being ignored.

you're not competing with your local or regional photographers, you're actually against the whole world army of photographers shooting the same subjects and using your same gear !
as the OP pointed out, he's in Serbia and $1000 is a lot to him. like all crowdsourcing, we're competing against those who are happy with a much lower rate of pay. perhaps the agencies are dreaming of an army of african photographers, willing to work for $1/day.
I'm no African but I would love to be one right now and ask you what did you mean with this remark about Africans!Maybe I'm wrong with what I'm writing here but please, READ AGAIN what you've wrote. Ok?
sorry, just saw this. Um, you are being a bit touchy I think? I'm married to a Sth African so i have an insight into Africa too. I didn't mean anything awful, only to point out how cheap labour is there - much as it is in China now - and they will happily work for far less that what we will, because our cost of living is so much higher.

Could the popularity of the name be sufficient to get traffic and use the site as a hub for independent websites?
Maybe I am all wrong about this? Maybe a million hits on a coined word nowadays mean nothing? Tell me what you think?
the name has nothing to do with photography in my mind, so anyone who came across you is unlikely to have arrived there searching for stock. however, now you've registered it there's really only your time involved to test it out. go for it!

that was my thought... all year they've had the new structure graphic up, but on the upload page they've still got the 50% thing.

« on: January 06, 2013, 19:13 »
on the upload images page it still says I get 50%...
The Deal: 50% of the nett proceeds from each photo downloaded
? thought they'd dropped us all down?

I think I'm using Yuri's. Although I made some formatting changes to make it fit better on the page and look a bit friendlier.
For DT I sometimes use their form, you only need one release for a number of years. So for anyone you shoot regularly (like family) I just use their form. If it keeps them happy........
as far as uploading, I do have a scanner, although it's a pita cos it's my husband's laser printer bw scanner, so I have to go outside to his office (on our property still) and scan and then email (or dropbox it). I can't see why a proper photo wouldn't be accepted, a phone pic would probably not be sharp?

why not directly draw on screen? why limit yourself with ancient graphic tablets..
because of the mess you make on the screen? because it's nice to be able to watch your work without your hand in the way? i've not evolved to a tablet yet, although it's on my gadget list (I too get wrist pains from the mouse).

back on topic....
some options I'd try: 1) you either need a break, although it sounds like you got that when you went through your mourning period. 2) buy a new lens. nothing gets me more keen to shoot than trying out a new lens. not that I'm an equipment junkie, I haven't bought a new lens in nearly 2 years. If not a new lens then some new gadget. 3) go somewhere ... either take a mini break or just get in your car at 5am and drive for 3 hours and see where it takes you. most of us can't resist that. stop somewhere for a lovely lunch and stay out all day and shoot in the afternoon too. take the new gf and shoot her on location too.

Every photographer should consider and calculate the expenses by shifting his GF to a more photogenic one. Emotional stress in the transition can be photographed in self portraits and sold as well. The photographer can emphasize by selecting a black or a white background.
don't forget you are talking about women, they have put us in this world
Well there is a man involved in that, in fact, one cant reproduce wihtout the other
although it's not particularly hard to get the man to do his part

They, and the site, will be back up soon. In the meantime, wed like to offer you 10% off your next purchase of 50 or more iStock credits using the coupon code below.
They foul up, we pay. ^^^ bowdlerised.
I thought that bit was a joke you put in there..... ( yes, there needs to be much more dissent regarding this. their job is to run the site, pay for that themselves, and pay us. we aren't subsidising their running costs too. I went to a cafe recently who was asking for donations to help pay the electricity bill, the cheek!

hard to tell with iS though, as the top sellers there are different to SS and DT. as I'm only new (1 year now) I see improvement in my work and 6 months is a long time, esp as I expect I'll keep improving each month.
is there anywhere that actually tells you how much more the comm is? it seems very vague (and certainly not promoted)

oops, I had no idea about this feature at iS. have assigned a dozen files but will leave a dozen free spots in the hope that my summer shooting doubles my port. cheers.

there could be a space for qualified tutorials. I know you can find anything on YouTube but 80% of it is rubbish, or tedious, or both. this is me too: I hardly ever look for "how to" videos any more. They're usually tedious - dragged-out introductions, unfocused narration and a glacial pace - and so poorly shot that critical details are missed. When I'm looking for help with a DIY project I have about 5 seconds of patience for a video - if it doesn't get immediately to the point, I move on.

our stations in Australia look nothing like that, although we don't have snow in most of the country so those super pitched roofs aren't common.

I personally don't see the point of using Flickr to increase sales. 1) people using flickr are photographers already, so not your target market 2) people going to flickr to look for images are possibly going there to steal images.
