I guess it would need a mixture of dls, number of files and time uploading although even that wouldn't be accurate as somebody could have opened and account 5 years ago and not uploaded until recently and visa versa. What are the levels needed to get to the top end of the dials? Maybe the dial limits need to be higher now that so many people are reaching the maximum. ETA where's my IS dial gone? It was there this morning

LOL no not me but I remember seeing it and wondering how it was done.

Did you do it more than half an hour ago as they take a while to show? Mine aren't showing yet but I only did them about 20 minutes ago.

someone commented here that it was largely older files they were selling, which would obviously be a problem for a newbie.
I've never really taken a lot of notice of what sells at BS but I have just looked and of all this years sales only 0.5% (not 5% but .5%) are from images uploaded this year. I really am shocked by that. It means that new images are just not getting seen. Nearly 10% of my port was uploaded this year. No wonder you aren't getting sales Joanne.

I am glad to be of entertainment... I do know who Yuri is, does that count?
I am sure there are more fish in the stock pond I do not know. I have never been a follower and wasnt planning on starting now either.
There are a few people in stock I have the utmost respect for. Mainly because they are great because of their personallity, which comes back in their work.
Sorry for the teasing but asking who Sean is, is like a computer expert asking who Bill Gates is

Yes I'm seeing a huge swing towards US sales as well since November 2011.

I'll give it a try, let me know when the site takes contributors. I am a small fish, 400 photos, but lets see. I'll PM you here Mark or Wife of Mark.
I'm sure he'll be thrilled to have you join.
Thanks, I am sure he is. Forgive me for not knowing, but who are you?
Do your own research. It's not hard.
Why would I research some random poster in this forum?
I wish I could put this entire thread into my signature.
LOL it would look better in Sean's

Did you check whether either image had appeared in the 'Newest Uploads' category? Being so featured can have a massive boost (in the sort order) for months afterwards.
That makes sense and I guess that is what must have happened to some of my images then. I have never clicked on 'New images' before as I thought that it would just be a link to all the new images not a few selected ones.

US 12% Other 88%
Europe with a lot of very generic people shots. I'm surprised that I don't sell more in the US as I often go for what I think is the American look. ETA - Oops I was looking at the wrong figures. I am actually between 25 and 40% US depending on month.

I wonder at what point it will be decided that my new images that are doing so well need pushing right down in the search as they are now no longer new images. I'd like to think that while they are doing well they will be kept at the top of the searches but if that was the case then my old best sellers should still be selling.

I also upload regularly but not many images a month. Are you finding newer images sell better or you old best sellers? My sales are 70% newer images. Some of the few that have caught on in the last few months have more dls at Fot than they do at SS.
Oddly enough, one recently uploaded image now sells several times a day which I had never happen before at FT. It's not even a stellar image IMO.
I thought it was maybe featured in a lightbox or something but I couldn't find it anywhere. No idea how I get so many downloads on it.
This also leads me to believe that there is some random algorithm at work that pushes individual images regardless of my history or anything else. Just speculation.
I've had a few like that in the last couple of months and like you I've been checking to see if they were on the front page or somewhere else. One had nearly 50 dls in a month. It sort of gives me hope for the site as new images can do so well. Just needs to be treated like SS used to be and constantly upload there.

I'd say to sell them at the max price. All my files are priced there, and my sales have been steady. I had a great month there last month (over $300 and over 60 sales).
Thank you that is worth knowing. I have never earnt much more than 50$ in a month there.

I got 2 yesterday for 2.76 each and I was quite pleased as it makes a change from all the subs but am now disgusted if they are EL sales!!!

It's difficult to know really . I have got most of my images set at 2$ -10$. My last sale was a large that for some reason I had set at 3$ -15$ and I got 7.80$ from it. I find sales there very inconsistent and in the last year have ranged from 1 sale to 16 sales a month. I am considering going in and changing them all to the 3$ - 15$ but I think with such inconsistent sales it would be difficult to judge if it has affected sales.

I'm down on Dreamstime too, but they are still very firmly in my Big 4. The one who has dropped like a rock is Fotolia. Fotolia are down 55% from last year and 75% from two years ago. By contrast, DT only dropped less than 20%.
Of course any drop is worrisome, but 75% is much more problematic for me than 20%.
That's similar to my figures then. I am also seeing a 20 -25% drop at DT. As you say it is worrisome but but nothing like Fotolia. SS was usually only ever in 3rd place for me but has been quite firmly in first for quite a few months now. My search placement doesn't seem to be affected at Dt so I can only assume that they are losing customers.

Bear in mind that I submit very few images per month (though regularly) so this just doesn't add up.

Thanks both of you for posting. Seems very widespread then. Fotographer, your graph says it all. So does the fact that you are finding other avenues than stock to make your living.
I've taken the graph down as I don't want to risk FT working out who I am and 'punish' me for complaining

But you can lower your prices at FT.
I doubt that would work for me as most of my images that sell are level 2 so I would risk the possibility of halving my earnings.

I'd say no, I stopped ULing to the non top 4 sites after a few months. Not only you're wasting your time, but also support agencies that compete only with the lowest prices and lead the race to the bottom. And that is bad for all of us. They also never earned me more than 10-15% and I'm talking about 10 agencies or so, not just a couple. Besides most of those agencies put your files on dozens of partner sites, you can't even track where your content sells and there is often a problem with deleting those files. OTOH FT do that as well.
I'm glad I didn't follow this advice^^. I have seen my income at two of the top 4 agencies drop by more that 50% in the past year, thanks to search engine changes that penalize top selling (read expensive) contributors. Thank goodness I am on some of those "low sellers" because they are the only thing keeping my numbers to a tolerable level.
Totally agree, the smaller sites are at least helping to plug the gap left by the other 2.

I'm emerald. Heres my graph since the it peaked in 2010. Speaks for itself. I am now making 1/5 of what I was then. It is a loss of over a 1000$ a month on my best months. My 7 day rank was at one time under 30 when I was lucky enough to not get affected by some changes that affected most people it is now over 800!! In the beginning as FT went down Dt went up and mostly covered the loss along with new sites I was uploading to but DT is recently starting to go the same way. Luckily I no longer rely on my stock photography earnings but have branched out. ps graph removed.

Best person to answer that would be someone with The Bridge to BigStock, who has virtually all the same images on both. And they can tell us if BS is consistent 13% of SS? That would be interesting to know.
My port at BS is through the Bridge system and yes I usually make about 13% at BS than I do at SS.

It's FT for me, down to 7th place last month. Really though how relevant is the designation top tier/middle tier/low earners?
Are you uploading much lately? Over half my sales are on images uploaded in the last couple of months.
