I don't believe in caps in the slightest, but if I did, and I was trying to discredit your evidence, I'd have to say:
That's a three month period that happened several months ago. Is there a reason you're not showing more months, or more recent months? Maybe they don't fit with the steady growth shown in your small excerpt? 1028

General - Stock Video / Re: Artbeats - Closing its Doors in 7 days - RIP!« on: February 21, 2018, 20:09 »
Yeah, shame to see them go. I signed up for Artbeats Express at the end of 2015, and although the sales figures weren't very good, they were a nice addition to my monthly earnings. They invited me to join the main Artbeats site in 2016 but unfortunately I didn't get a single sale there. Thought that was a bit strange... hopefully their reporting works!
But yeah, I remember finding Artbeats over ten years ago when I was first getting into video and stock and the like. They always seemed to be pretty cutting edge with really high quality aerial shots before drones were around, 4K stuff, loads of 3D footage, high framerate stuff etc. I guess the prices were just too high to justify compared to the competition. I did think it was strange that they were just shutting their doors due to the owners retiring. You would have though they'd sell the company or just appoint people to run it for them. Still, maybe they have their reasons. 1031
General Stock Discussion / Motion Array« on: February 20, 2018, 19:00 »
So I stumbled across Motion Array a couple of nights ago. The name sounds familiar and I'm sure I'd seen it before, but I'm not sure why I'd never been a contributor there. They do video, motion graphics and After Effects templates... no images. So I thought I may as well sign up and see how I get on. It's a subscription site, no direct sales (so low amount per download but hopefully made up on volume)... which isn't exactly ideal, but I thought I'd try it for a few months, see how I get on.
So I submit ten videos as you're only allowed ten items in the review queue at any one time. I get an email 24 hours later saying they need a copy of my ID. I send it over and 24 hours later they've already approved 4 of my items. Better still, less than four hours after my first item was approved, I've already had a sale! Well, 'a download'. It's pretty good as there's complete transparency on the 'sellers stats page'... it shows the total revenue they've made in that month, the total amount that will be paid out to contributors, how those amounts break down to different item types (videos/templates etc) how many downloads I've had, what percentage of the total downloads that represents, and how much that equates to in real money. No waiting until the end of the month... or the 20th of the following month to find out how much you've made! Just $3.47 for my one download but we'll see how I get on from a volume standpoint. I'm mildly impressed with them so far... but I'll report back in a month or two. 1032
General Stock Discussion / Re: How to end the "Caps" debate: share your data.« on: February 20, 2018, 06:08 »
The thing with these percentage increases on sales though... they're going to be somewhat in-line with how many items you're uploading. Not exactly, but in the same kind of ballpark. So lets say for example that you had 100 images in 2013 and you uploaded 416 images between then and 2014. That would equate to your 516% increase.
Then if you're uploading regular as clockwork, it stands to reason that you'll upload another 416 images the next year. So that would be an 80% increase on the previous year. Do the same the next year and you've got a 44% increase. Then 30%, then 23% and so on and so forth. So unless you're doubling your portfolio every year then you're bound to see a drop in your percentage increases. But who can upload 400 new images in 2013, 800 in 2014, 1600 in 2015, 3200 in 2016, 6400 in 2017 and 12800 in 2018? Not your average one-man band. The longer you're at it, the harder it becomes. That's going on the assumption that all your content is exactly the same with regards to commercial appeal/quality etc... which they rarely are. So why are your percentage increases less than my figures? Because they don't take into account the continual increase in authors and the amount of images/videos on the site. Even if your portfolio did increase by 100% every year, you wouldn't see a 100% growth in sales every year. And if you didn't upload anything since 2013, your 0% increase year on year would rapidly head into negative figures as your sales declined. Unfortunately, that's just par for the course, and there's no way to avoid it to a certain extent. Work on improving quality and diversity like you say, and try to upload more this year than you did the last... but if everyone keeps doing what they're doing, then you're never going to keep getting steady growth in sales figures. 1033

General Stock Discussion / Re: buyout price for a vector illustration? How much?« on: February 20, 2018, 02:59 »
Yeah, I'd take the amount that I've earned from the nine illustrations over the past two years, and go with that figure as a minimum. You can always extrapolate if they've not been on the market for two years. Maybe start at three years so there's room to manoeuvre if they want to negotiate. I probably wouldn't go over five years earnings, that would be pushing it a bit.
Asking for $1K+ per image is great and all, but if you're making $5 a month per image... then you may as well go for something they're a bit more likely to accept. 1035
General Stock Discussion / Re: How to monetise "shithole"?« on: February 20, 2018, 02:22 »
There's probably more piles of rubbish in the US than there is in Mozambique... and I'm pretty sure some of them fall over from time to time. The only difference is, people don't (as far as I know) live next to giant piles of rubbish in the US. Health regulations and what have you.
But still... just because some people choose to live next to a pile of rubbish, probably through necessity, doesn't automatically mean that they live in a shithole country. 1036

General Stock Discussion / Re: How can i create a shutterstock account?« on: February 13, 2018, 17:45 »
How long have you had your drivers license/passport? And how many times has a disgruntled employee of the passport office or DVLA released your info? How many times have they been hacked into?
Sure, giving it to SS doubles the odds of that happening... but then you've just go two instances of it being highly unlikely your info will be stolen. And what are they going to do with it if hey did have It? Probably not much. Bottom line... send in your ID or give up on signing up. We've all done it and we're all fine. The odds of you getting to speak to somebody who is in a position to overrule SS's rules and procedures is probably less likely than your ID being stolen. 1044

General - Stock Video / Re: The end of QuickTime PhotoJPEG??« on: February 11, 2018, 16:34 »
Here's the list from Adobe... so it sounds like you can still import and work with PhotoJPEG (Unless that means Motion JPEG - it just says JPEG) you just can't output to it. So it shouldn't be an issue for existing files on the marketplace if buyers can still work with them... as long as Adobe continue providing that native support.
DNxHD would be a pretty good option for PC users until a reliable and consistent way to render ProRes on PC's come about. Not aware of any agencies that take it... but they'll have to look at the options at some point. Not seeing an H.264 export on there which is interesting. Native Video Import: * DNxHD/DNxHR * JPEG * PNG * ProRes * Cineform * DV * AVCI * h264 * IMX * MPEG2 * HDV * HEVC * XDCAM * Uncompressed * Animation (without delta frames) Native Audio Import: * Uncompressed * AAC * AC3 Native Video Export: * Uncompressed * DV * Cineform * DNxHD/DNxHR * Animation * ProRes (Mac only) 1047

Ok, well start in the late 80's when he had his first billion. The point is that he's not exactly this amazing businessman that some people make him out to be. A lot of people would probably be considerably wealthier than him if they started with the same money and connections back in the 70's and 80's.

Ok, $1.3m but make sure to take inflation into account.
$350K a week still isn't that bad. Especially if your happy meal was a lot cheaper back then as well. 1049
Off Topic / Re: Not applauding is treason?« on: February 08, 2018, 04:49 »Nobody really knows how much the guy is worth. Estimates range in the millions to up to 10 billion. If we go by Forbes for consistency, who are quite generous with their estimates (ranging between $1bn and $4bn since 1988), he's worth $3.1 billion. In 2013, also according to Forbes, he was worth $3.2 billion. Not a massive drop comparatively... but that means he's lost $100 million in four years. Not the best advertisement of his business skills, especially when you take inflation into account. Well if the thing about putting his money in a savings account is true... he could have retired in 1978, sat on some island somewhere and spent $1.3m a week, every week... and he'd be just as wealthy as he is now. Without having to do any work. 1050

Just to add to Pauws99's excellent and succinct post... according to the CIA, 9% of the population of the Europe Union live below the poverty line. In the USA it's 15%. Just so you know! Although I admire many aspects of the USA, there are also many that I don't. You you can feel it's the greatest country in the world if you like (or one of the greatest)... but the facts differ slightly.
