Shutterstock.com / Is search engine totally messed up now?« on: May 13, 2009, 10:46 »
It seems like my sales went down to almost zero so I started looking at how search works now and it seems to be a little weird. I tried "memorial day" and result are kind of weird. In top 10 there are 3 pictures of woman laying in the spa. There is no word "memorial" in keywords but there is word "day". Since I do not know how to make logical AND it seems like they just mixed up results from two searches for a single word but not intersection of terms I would expect.

Software - General / Re: Using Amazon S3 for storage and a Proof of Concept website« on: May 13, 2009, 10:41 »
I did not check if Amazon offers any sort of database tools. As far as programming languages are concerned I would rather go with C# or Java, these are most popular so it would be easier attract developers. I would recommend to use Google Code for hosting source code.

Computer Hardware / What's the fastest equipment for reading CF cards?« on: May 12, 2009, 13:51 »
Upgraded camera and files are now 25mb so importing pictures takes forever. It seems like USB reader will be slow too. Which route is best firewire external reader or portable drive with card reader? Are there any external SATA readers on a market?

They did not look at images just sales numbers I guess. Now they offer to review images.

Great now they see that they pissed off so many people so they try to say "we have been joking". As I said somewhere before this deal was only valid for if I did not have to upload couple hundred images again. Since there was no sales there anyway I am not going to put any additional effort to this site or it's successors. Hasta la vista baby. 1060
iStockPhoto.com / Re: Dumb rejections« on: May 11, 2009, 18:26 »How would it get the point across? People'll still do it next time, if there was no penalty. I knew it's all about penalty... Seriously how much more work is to delete keywords instead of enumerating them? I usually get specific list so reviewer already took time to hand pick them. They must intend to punish me cause I have to spent more time on the same picture. And of course it takes my available upload slot too. Usually I choose to take couple cycles off from uploading there instead to getting frustrated. 1061
Veer / Re: thanks Veer awesome email news JUNE 8. congrats all .« on: May 11, 2009, 17:30 »
They just transfer top earning accounts and hope that others will do rest of work for them. I am not planning to do anything, this deal was only interesting for me if I did not have to start from scratch again.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Photographers - Collective which Direction« on: May 11, 2009, 15:23 »
We cannot be just a copy of a microstock agency with only difference that we own it. They are just to big and can easily cover as with their hats :-) The only way it could work if it's totally open platform/API anybody can put on their website. It should connect various storage offerings (S3, Picasaweb, Flickr, SmugSmug, etc) with various selling options (PayPal, photo printing sites, etc). This way we are distributed so there is not single point of failure.

Veer / Re: Content not good enough for Veer - confused?« on: May 11, 2009, 14:31 »
Now I am happy that I did not waste my time uploading there. I just sent them DVD twice. They picked whatever they liked. I got two payouts before they started transition but I wonder why they did accept pictures from second DVD if they did not intend to copy them over. I guess transfer is too difficult to handle for them.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Fotomoto« on: May 11, 2009, 14:25 »
In this sense yes but what I like is that I do not submit pictures to a third-party, I only have a platform to sell. Like eBay they take many from sales to make it happen. As an analogy I would say current microstock is like pawn shop, you give them your stuff they sell and give you back some money minus their fee. They keep your stuff. That's what we need, platform for selling not another website to submit.

It looks promising. Images sit on your website, no subscription fees, put some code and voila you can sell prints. I am waiting for invitation. Hopefully later you can sell images also. No middleman but you need to do marketing yourself. 1066
Veer / Re: Content not good enough for Veer - confused?« on: May 11, 2009, 14:05 »
I got it too. I think is cost cutting move. Why do they have to move any images. Let's ask droids to submit them again :-)

It's funny thread. People a describing in their own words what can be seen on the right side of the forum page :-) Obviously almost everybody got different Top 6. If having your top top icons would be mandatory you might take advantage of comparing what kind of pictures people who got similar results to yours have.

Bigstock.com / Re: New Upload Limits at BigStockPhoto« on: May 06, 2009, 14:24 »
I asked customer support do delete couple hundred files from my queue (at first a did not have IPTC data) and then I learned that it will affect my acceptance ratio. So now I am *removed coarse language* up cause this will never expire and I have to get same amount images approved to even reach 50%.

2786 x 500 = 1 393 000
There 2786 member of this forum. If we assume that by average we got 500 pictures online we control more than million pictures but how much contributor's revenue we control? How many top contributors are here and are they will to sacrifice their businesses to help us? 1073
General Stock Discussion / Re: Contributors' Collective« on: May 04, 2009, 19:37 »
Macro stock still exists (yachts). Some people still pay hundred for same quality photo they could get from micro for cents. Majority does not own yacht they inflatable boat at Walmart for $9.99 which was made where? China.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Contributors' Collective« on: May 04, 2009, 19:24 »
There is unlimited supply of new photos and limited number of potential buyers so site that treats buyers best wins. All attempts to create system fair for contributors eventually fail cause it will be too expensive for buyers. It's similar like trying to compete with cheap Chinese production Everybody want more features for less now. We are like workers in these factories. We can complain only but eventually we take whatever employer gives us :-)
