Just don't allow those so-called employees to 'help' you personally on Skype. How any contributor or Adobe user would blindly trust a stranger with personal login information is beyond me.

Dissolve / Re: Dissolve lowering price on my footage
« on: April 21, 2017, 07:39 »
Dissolve is clueless apparently. Because the only way they know how to compete with their competitors, is to join them in a race to the bottom.

Maybe if Dissolve could work on improving their business model, their marketing or strenghtening their USP's instead, they wouldn't be bothered by low-priced competitors.
But they don't have anything that makes them unique, lowering prices is they only weapon they have. Worse is they are spinning it as if it's the contributors fault their sales are dwindling.

The way I read it, SS is just handling this correctly. They haven't closed your account yet, they aren't choosing the model's side, they're simply checking whether the contracts/releases are in order. It's still under investigation so it'd be wise to wait the outcome.

Now if they did close your account without investigation, you'd have every right to be angry with them. But don't blame SS, they're simply following procedures. Direct your anger towards the model who claims to be infringed.

I'm not a photographer, but here's my 2 cents:

1. Use more descriptive titles. Use more keywords to describe your images.
For instance, your image 'tree trunk' could be titled 'cross-section of a tree trunk showing annual age rings', with added keywords such as 'age', 'cross-section', etc.
2. Try to create more conceptual images, pictures that tell a story.
3. Try to shoot from more captivating angles, make use of copy space in your compositions.

Just out of curiosity, how much do you currently make per month per clip at Shutterstock only? Or which site has the best $/clip/month for you? Question aimed at anyone.

Currently an HD sale nets me $17-$23.

That is not what I asked.

LOL, sorry, I've had a long day. I should calculate it, but the result would be kind of skewed since I have recently been uploading more videos than in 2016. But my guess is around $0.10 per clip per month on SS.
VB has the best $/clip/month for me.

I also a pop-up with the Pond5 login screen multiple times when StockSubmitter is open. When I do the captcha, the screen disappears, only to reopen after a while. Seems like it doesn't memorize the login details when checking the balance.

ShadySue is right, the search function doesn't behave as expected. I often get a 'No result found...' page, and annoying loading bars. If I do get results, there is very little content.

Never liked the lazily produced work of Warhol. A prime example of The Emperor's New Clothes. His work looks like crap, but nobody dared to say it to his face.

Unless you 'go exclusive' with an agency that allows exclusivity, basically every microstock agency gives you the option to be a non-exclusive contributor.

123RF / Re: Video pricing at 123RF
« on: April 07, 2017, 14:45 »
Is 123RF still reviewing videos? My uploads have been pending forever now.

1113
Feels like my port has been shut off in search, I have fewer sales and it's mostly older files.

New Sites - General / Re: Anyone selling in iclipart.com?
« on: April 06, 2017, 08:57 »
its an old thread, but im new contributor at vitalimagery.com, just send my first upload.

Please tell me about sales in iclipart.com, iphotos.com and they buy clipart.com, If somebody have an account please give me a review! any sale on those sites? worth it?

Thankyou!

I am getting sales, however they calculate your royalties based on a percentage of your sales in regard to the total sales/revenue.

It does provide me with a decent monthly payout, the bulk of the sales coming from Clipart.com.

But those calendar images are 3D illustrations, it must be loads of work! ;)

I don't know the guy but it must be tough getting shafted by Getty after 10 years of faithful service.

Then again, he's leaving a sinking ship, so it's probably for the best.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Video at istock
« on: March 30, 2017, 07:49 »
I removed any videos I had on iStock, mostly because of the low commissions. But indeed, the uploading process, recent platform changes and artist treatment is another good bunch of reasons to never upload video there again.

Why even consider it?

When I upload new footage, the GIF / images are automatically created, but my older videos don't have this GIF option. How do I enable it for my older videos as well?

You can join the value-added program with this link https://www.motionelements.com/signup/vvap

I already joined the program. Could there be a delay in regenerating the GIFs for existing portfolio items?

Envato / Re: Another Envato Tax question....
« on: March 28, 2017, 11:21 »
Doing my 2016 taxes. :(  I got a 10-99 from Envato saying I made $16 in royalties.  I cancelled my account before I ever got a payoff just to avoid tax problems.  So do I really have to pay taxes on $16 that I never received and never will, which was in effect, a gift to them?  >:(

You did earn it, just because they hold onto it doesn't mean it's not your money. So yes, that $16 belongs to your taxable income.

Although I pay income tax on sales revenue after it appears in my bank account, because with some agencies it's impossible to track the actual transaction date.
Not sure if that's the correct way to do it, but it prevents me from paying "virtual" taxes.

General Stock Discussion / Re: How is your March?

My sales on SS don't seem to pick up, don't know why.

Other agencies are pretty stable.

I decided to actually check out the site based on your post, and couldn't agree more! The video itself is such a cliche... designed to stir emotion, identify some need I never knew I had, and make me think how wonderful I am, how wonderful this company is, and how I desperately need their service... without hardly telling me anything about what that service actually is!

The script writer should be rewarded, as it's the kind of fluffy, empowering nonsense that a lot of people actually buy into (did they used to work for the Apple marketing department?)... but as it (I'm assuming) relates to our business and our bottom line, we need a bit more to go on!

+1.

Even though the script is a bunch of "set yourself free" nonsense that could be applied to any web 2.0 service, I must say the animation was smooth and well done.

But I would like to see more specific info on pricing, features, etc. on their website.

It's a chronic thing that happens in the arts, and I think we're getting fed up with it. Or at least i am. People seems to attach no value to art or photography, as if the work just appears from thin air. "I have a small budget" or "I'll give you exposure"..I'm trying to imagine saying that to my vet when I bring my dog in for her very expensive checkup and echocardiogram this week.

Do you call your doctor for an appointment, not knowing what tests she'll need to run or how much they'll cost, and tell her you have a small budget? First thing, when you call?

What's the point of saying it except to pressure the person on the other end into lowering their rates for you? Otherwise you'd just say "I like your work, can you gve me an estimate for x?"

No matter the reason, my rule is to always stay polite, even when people try to negotiate a reduced price.

To put it in perspective: stores and supermarkets try to get customers by providing reduced prices on clothing or shoes or handbags or food. This is no different. It's part of our business, due to heavy competition. Stick to your own prices and only accept it when you think the deal is good.

Lowest commission is 3 cents. The sales revenue is 30% of what it used to be, I didn't even make the payout treshold.

Last week I saw a job posting on a freelance website; someone asked for a 60 seconds, detailed, technical 3D animation of heavy machinery. Budget: $200.

How about a storyboard drawn on a napkin?
