Ok, I'll join in the celebrations, I will get my raise tomorrow after an EL today lifted me over the $500 mark Onto the next target (that will take longer...)

Higher prices on credit sales without any change in subscription terms will almost certainly mean only one thing: More subscription sales.
There is one positive thing about sub sales at DT: They pay more for subs from level 3 on (IIRC). And level 3 will need half the downloads it used to from next year on...

We have until December 31, 2009 to opt out, so I suggest we all go over to the StockXpert forum and say we will opt out unless they match the 30 cents we are currently getting. Probably wont work but might be worth a try.
Done that. And opted out directly. I can well live without those 0,25 sales. If Getty changes the comission (which I doubt) I can still opt in again...

I hope you will give us a try HermanM!
Hopefully we can sort the ITIN issue out in a few weeks. In the mean time, you can sell without having the tax stuff sorted out. Worse case, if you wanted to be paid without waiting, you could even accept the 30% tax rate without needing any ITIN and that 30% is only on USA orders. But, hopefully will know more soon on that.
Both Editorial and RF is accepted on our site as well just in case anyone else was wondering.
Is there any update on the ITIN issue? Now that I had my first sale I'd like to clarify the tax situation. If you could follow the example of shutterstock and veer and fotolia with an online form without needing an ITIN, that would be perfect. I don't mind waiting a bit, if it takes time, would be a lot better than appying for an ITIN or have tax deducted... Btw, is there any way to see whether a sale was to a US buyer (and thus withholding tax would apply) or not?

Early December is gone... It's almost mid December now, but my October sub downloads are still not calculated...
Ok, I complained too early... I received the payment for the October sub downloads. 0,29 each. Fotolia pays more.... Time to remove that silly 30% / 50% thing...

Hopefully we will make it up in volume as the more cost-conscious buyers choose the cheaper non-exclusive files over exclusive ones.
Right, that might bring more sales to non-exclusives...

3. Credit price increase. Great for istock, great for contributors. At least on the face of it. For us non-exclusives this will be the only raise we get at IS. But Sean makes an excellent point in the IS thread - this is not the ideal economic time to be squeezing customers. Could backfire and send more to the competition.
Not really an increase if it comes along with a decrease in the number of credits needed to buy non-exclusive files...

Who cares for cannister levels, it doesn't change anything for non-exclusives (yes, I know, upload limits... until they are "temporarily" lowered anyway ). But lowering prices for non-exclusive files is what I don't like.

In short: If a customer - with a simple one-month subscription bought in mid-October - acquires an image in mid-October, we know all details of his particular subscription shortly after mid-November, i.e. downloaded images etc. Thus we calculate the value of each download at the end of that (the next) month, and you get your money at the beginning of the next month, in this case early December.
Early December is gone... It's almost mid December now, but my October sub downloads are still not calculated...

I got a response on my question to support. It was a bit cryptical, but essentially saying that the form should be filled out to receive the benefit of no tax reductions (I'm living in Germany, so the applicable tax rate under the tax treaty is 0%). They did not explicitely answer to my question about what happens if I do not fill in an ITIN.
I then filled out the form (without ITIN of course) and it now was approved. The approval message no explicitely states that they will not withhold taxes (original German text for those who understand it "Durch die Einreichung entsprechen Sie nun den geltenden Bestimmungen und sind nicht Gegenstand einer automatisch erhobenen Abgeltungssteuer und profitieren von einer reduzierten bzw. nicht erhobenen Quellensteuer-Abgabe.") ...
Let's wait for my first payout in 2010 to see if this all holds true...

I asked the support in Germany about the ITIN question, let's see what they answer...

Btw the same images selling on different agencies is normal. You have the same pictures on different agencies for this reason right?
It sure is normal. But when it happens with low sellers that sell only a few times a year over all agencies combined, and then such a file sells on different agencies on the same day, that smells like something else but just coincidence...

I agree with Sharpshot, the risk is you fill out the form to your best knowledge and they deduct taxes anyway, because they interpret things differently than SS or Veer did.
I asked some questions on the German forum, let's wait if there will be any meaningful response...

Is it only for US Fotolia or for all Fotolias?
I think it is for all. At least on Fotolia Germany we have the form too...

They are German and there has been quite some talk about them on the German forum www.foto-talk.deSome people seem to have positive experience with them and have reported sales already. I just started to upload, process is pretty ok and rejections are few for me. No sales yet, but since my first images are up only some days that is not surprising. They seem to have a longer history in selling stock video (hence the name...), but I have no idea how they are doing in that regard.

Could it be something else? With micro prices customers may value their time in searching and selecting the right pictures a lot higher than the actual price of the pictures. So maybe if a customer is working on a project he just sends an intern (or even multiple persons) to download suitable material from different agencies - and ends up downloading the same file from different agencies without knowing. The real decision on what image to use is made later.
I had the same happening to me (same file downloaded from different agencies on the same day) with files that are nowhere near regular sellers. A bit too much to regard it as pure coincidence. And it even happened across micro- and midstock-agencies, the latter of which does not impose any limitations on print runs (so that argument would not apply in that case)...

No, they don't send emails. You have to check periodically to see what was accepted / rejected.

They should be okay. But there has been a lot of talk recently in Germany about what constitutes a "public" location. There are some parks open to the public but still in private ownership. And there has been a lawsuit against a photo agency concerning the use of pictures taken in such a private property. I don't recall all the details, but in essence as the property was private (although open to the public) the pictures in question should not have been sold. That's obviously why Panthermedia is a bit weary about where shots are taken.
If you are sure they were taken on public ground, you should be fine. Maybe just reply with the exact location you took the shots.

Keith,
i assume there might be a slight problem on your side...
I had a rejection with the same reason (""This image is a duplicate of an image you have already submitted. Please do not resubmit it again"), for file ID # 356113.
I double (and triple-)checked, both in my own accounting and on your website this file cannot be found in neither the accepted nor the rejected files.
As to using the support channels on the website: I sent a question there a few weeks ago (can't say when exactly, and the ticket can't be found on the website itself...) and never received any feedback...
Sometimes it looks as though asking here gets far quicker responses...
Regards, Dirk

According to my notes, StockXpert's minimum size is 800x600. But parenthetically it also states 4MP. 800x533 is > 4MP, so seems like the 4MP figure is the correct one.
800X533 is 0.4 MP.

a stocker cooperating with DepositPhotos should not receive less than he/she receives from the nearest competitor.
Could you elaborate on that a bit? It reads to me like you want your payouts to be higher than for equal download on competing sites. If this is true, than given your payout schedule on your site you miss the goal. The prices are cheap compared to e.g. Istock. Same for the payouts, even if you take higher percentage in account. Sub commissions are too low compared to e.g. Dreamstime, Shutterstock, Fotolia, 123RF... EL prices are too low. It would be nice to have a newcomer not trying to compete on price...

As a scientist I don't believe in exact numbers.
May I borrow that quote the next time my boss asks me for an exact cost estimate ??

They used to report sales one day later, so likely those are sales from yesterday. Can you still find your files up on photos.com? I can't find mine...
I think for jupiter there was no end date announced yet, at least I did not see it, so those may be going on for a while...
