they haven't tweeted for new stuff since nov 24.

They are part of Getty?(they require contributors to use Getty releases) how odd to call your site IS....

Exclusive only.

Heady days indeed!

If I was starting microstock now, with the level of skill and the understanding of stock that I had back then, I can't imagine that I'd get very far. I'm sure I'd find that the level of sales would not be enough to be motivating, that's assuming I could get my stuff accepted in the first place. Nope, I feel genuinely sorry for today's newbies and admire their persistence in attempting to compete against the 20M+ images that weren't there when I started. Good luck to them! We 'veterans' were just lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time.

great post.

Although Rebecca (?) did say there are too many contributors/too many files compared to buyer numbers?

it's a weird standard coming from an agency that only requires one model release per human, rather than per shoot, like everywhere else.  I could, in theory, now stalk this model and shoot her everywhere and still use the pics.

** update. how funny, she emailed me to ask for copies for her portfolio, and I got her new number off her. problem solved.... this time.

^they said no resubmit.
Joann's tactic of making a collage is v clever.
Usually I just shrug and move on, but I guess it depends on how big the batch is.

they aren't going to make an international call to an australian mobile number. (or is it just us aussies who fear at the extortionate rates we pay for o/s calls?) why not ask for her skype id instead?

even paper MRs are a joke. digi versions where I take a pic of the model on site - clearly consenting to the shoot - is much better.

[rant over, i'll work it out, thanks]

If it were me, I'd create a number with a 555 area code and see what happens.
that would be hilarious.... for an Australian number.
wonder if they'd notice?

Dreamstime.com / MR rejected for no phone number??
« on: December 12, 2012, 04:30 »
my model lost her phone and is between phones. she has no number. (how a 19 yo girl is surviving in this world without a phone is a mystery!) So my MR is missing the phone number and they've rejected it.

It's kind of ridiculous to think that you'll be able to contact her on that number in say, a year's time, because it's quite likely she'll have a different number by then anyway. Google & FB (or their future equivalents) will be how we find people, right?

so I can either:
a) fight it
b) wait for her to get a new number
c) put her old number... or any number ...

Cameras / Lenses / Re: Seeking Nikon D3000 Advice
« on: December 12, 2012, 04:11 »
i'd get a 50mm lens, they are cheap (the 1.8 is only $150). your kit lens won't let you shoot under 5.6? also for food I am a stickler about using a tripod, esp if you are going to shoot at ISO 100 or 200. at least then you can do lovely 1/2 second exposures to really let the light pour in.

the 50 will be something like an 80mm on your cropped sensor so it'll actually be quite nice for portraits and getting some people shots happening. you will probably want the 35mm at some point but it's a touch pricier.

had coffee with a (newspaper) photographer friend of mine who has just separated from his wife.
but, out of the 4 breakups in my circle this past year only one is a photographer.

^ oh it does feel good to get your first sale(s)

DP are doing better for me these past few month with my tiny port of just 160. I'm concentrating on other sites and then upload here in my free time.  XL sales at subscription of .31 is not so motivating, but the upload and speed of acceptance is good.

when i was at college our teacher told us to ignore all of the Auto settings in Photoshop.

And on the camera and probably on everything else you use for processing.
yup.

except flash.... she did say, "even in auto your flash will probably do a good job" and I do agree, when i don't have the brain power to juggle the A, SS, ISO + do maths with the guide number, then auto or TTL has saved me in a few tricky situations where I had 20 seconds to get the shot.

Should we not also take into account the sheer number of photographers now in the ms game?

most of you veterans have a strong dislike of newbies (don't deny it, we all feel it), and I wonder how many more of us are jumping into ms to help supplement our income?  I'm not a huge threat on my own; I only have a small port that I grown in tiny steps as I take more stocky shots on my various jobs in the real world. But there are more of us who do this and are we also not having an impact?

it's in every genre. The magazine I work for continually seek out newbies who work for free. Family portraiture is a joke nowadays, with some offering shoots for under $100.

Income for photography work is on a downward trend everywhere.

Let's hope this helps some, and when the flip is switched, that the entire site doesn't go down.

! let's hope not, although it would be hilarious.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Editorial Stock Question
« on: December 10, 2012, 18:50 »
I think i've had SS refuse some of my stuff because it was posed. I've also had many refused at iS because I can't seem to upload images with the correct captioning, it's so frustrating but I seem to fail every time.  I've also had stuff rejected as editorial for "needing a property release". Sometimes it's just too hard for the 25c return.

Does editorial sell well?

I've never taken a photo like either of those, which is probably why I am not on Getty.

The lighting is impressive in both cases.

@BaldricksTrousers - it looks like the cabbage one was just taken on overcast day; the first image is probably just window light with reflector.

I was hoping that was sarcasm.

A good number of posts were removed from the thread - essentially criticizing the original poster for asking a question.

Take it easy guys!  The point of a forum is to learn and ask questions.  No question should be too elementary or basic.  If you don't like the question, move along to another thread. We all have to start somewhere.
Exactly. One comment was completely out of line. Agree with Vannphoto as well. This place is not exactly newby friendly.
phew, thanks for saying that... I was expecting to be either a) ignored or b) insulted.

There's a bit of that here, which is why many don't ask questions like this.

I know I have a small port but it makes me feel special to get one of these mythical 8c sales at last. Like another step to becoming a real microstocker.
I don't feel hurt, it was for a bg of bitumen road surface, surely there are so many of those they are only worth 8c?

If only a giant EL would follow, I've yet to be blessed with one of those.
