General Photography Discussion / Re: Pizza workers make more that MS Stock Photographers in Washington State« on: December 30, 2012, 12:28 »Am I understanding correctly? Are you guys saying that pizza workers make $18.23/hour in Denmark and $17/hour in Australia?? No you didnt. A loaf of bread costs 5 dollars here. A small house out in the contry costs 200.000 dollars. And why is that? Because general expenses are high, taxes are high, and government spends are high. Free education (universities), free healthcare, it all costs. But pays back. When all is said and done it boils down to security and trust. And here we have that. 1179

I do not understand the copyright infringement with the banana. Original work, based on an original photo.
As for copying Disney style, that would be very dangerous, as the Disney style is quite distinguishable and well known, as well as well established and all alikes would be copies. 1180

Models are more illusive than fairies, and certainly not pro.
Except for the pro ones of which there are few in microstock. I think it is important, that the photographer who knows or should know the business keeps the model from jumping into too deep a snake pit. Its all about "collateral damage". We should try to use the models in a way so that they earn money for us, but also so they are not demeaned or ridiculed. The net never forgets, and once upon a time the model might find his picture at a place he does not like. Its far better if the model finds himself in situations he likes. Like if the guy in the original photo held a lance and pointed it towards a dragon. Models like that, and they come back for a reshoot if there are dragons enough where they are displayed. Same with female models, just opposite. 1181

It can be fun enough to make pictures like this, but what will your next model think?

I wouldnt take such a picture. I dont see the point of it.

He is put on suspension by shutterstock while the case is being investigated, thats fine.
But it is not the same as being guilty. 1186

Ja, I never really understood why a share of more than 50% was not sustainable.
In my understanding, it is, if you grow the market. But maybe thats what it is all about, the market could not be expanded after the financial crisis hit. 1189

When I think about it Shutterstock is the only agency that plays by the rules.
Which is why I have never said anything bad about them. 1193
iStockPhoto.com / Re: Nervous breakdown - Istockphoto, what else? Exlcusivity etc...« on: December 23, 2012, 12:08 »
it is not about skilled people. Its about infrastructure and law.
You cannot make a company that lives from selling legal licences, if its not on stable ground legally. That means rule of law. The agencies benifit from that. And also benifit from that they are not easily caught when they do not play by the rules ( currencies, roundups, and super secret accounting) That all sucks, and many agencies can only thrive because the arm of the law does not reach them when they play dirty, at the same time as they benifit from the stability that comes from rule of law. I detest that. And I wont have it. 1194

Those countries have the infrastructure, stability and legislation.
...and there are many ways for an international company to evade tax. Thats common enough, to harvest the benifits in advanced societies and to promote the prices of less fortunate. The whole world is doing that now. Dont expect justice, just expect parasites. 1196

I took a drop of 50% to 30%
Which means they are going to take a 70% drop. Then they can have fun with 70% of nothing. add to that sleazyness and BS. and balance the scales with a few 100 dollars, it will be a pleasure.... 1197

General Stock Discussion / Re: Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!« on: December 23, 2012, 09:45 »
I cannot imagine the machine replaced CHRIIST as a swearword, so I have to replace the stars: Christmas means mess for chriist (*). Yuletide means wheel time (Wheel = yule). Christmas is celebrated when the wheel has turned once and the sun has gone through soltice and is reborn. So the Fimbul winter does not come.
Yule is a celebration of lights return. Therefore we decorate our green world (christmas trees) with lights. As they made fires in ancient times. Christmas (yuletide) is a very old celebration, and has nothing to do with chriist (*) or santa. Those 2 guys just stepped on the shoulders of our ancestors to either become famous or make profit. But anyway... you can make fun pictures with all things christmas. Happy yuletide to everyone: ![]() 1200

Come on guys. Read my above post.
And then let us not forget, that we are only people, sitting alone there out in the dark, and we are all trying to press some meagre dollars out of the stones. There are others at the other side of the ridge, who stand there with their baskets and simply collect all the ore that automatically falls into it. When you are alone out there in the dark, it is natural to be an oppertunist, and try to collect, even when the share is lousy. We have this forum to bring forward all the lousiness and abuse, not to demean eachother. |
