I edited my earlier post to note that I now see the stupid, broken, new-and-improved image page....

It seems "See all" is functioning as "Same artist" and vice versa. Looks like a bug and definitely should be fixed.

I checked a few images and I think it's just blindly using the first keyword alphabetically from the image shown when you click on "Same Artist". As that is most of the time not the keyword you searched in the first place, you get seemingly ridiculous results.

This bad behavior is made worse when you have one of the images where our multi-word keywords were split up by SS's ingestion process - some of my images have "bar" and "air" for the first word (it was towel bar and air duct before they mangled it)

This is just good for a giggle. There's an image that showed up as "similar" to one of mine - a photo illustration of a witch! I selected that image to see its supposed "Similars" and I'm not the only older white woman that Shutterstock considers to be a witch!! Don't suppose the guy or any of the other women think of themselves as witches either...

Doesn't the similar section just look at similarity in terms of compositions and colors? That's why buyers must be getting a white-haired guy portrait instead of an actual witch. Sometimes an algorithm does a half-assed guess. It happens, deal with it.
All in all, I don't think a buggy similars functionality really hurts sales that much. Where one contrubutor loses sales, another contributor gains. If buyer demand stays the same, it's a zero sum game.

Adobe Stock / Re: 23 cent sales in January

I'm getting 0,21 sales as well.

Apparently, Adobe doesn't feel the need to inform their contributors that tax forms have expired and simply withhold taxes without notice? Can I claim back these taxes?

Thanks a lot, i'm glad to hear these...And yea, i'm not depending in MS as my sole revenue...of course not lol!
What do you do other than MS btw?(Things that are linked to photography and designing)

Illustrations and explainer animations for businesses.

Eventually you'll hit a plateau in your growth. Depending on the quality of your material and the quantity of your uploads, this plateau may be reached sooner or later. It doesn't mean you won't be able to generate a good income , but it's certainly no get-rich-quick thing.

There's more competition every day, collections grow much faster than your own portfolio, but your images are new and fresh, so perhaps new contributors get some kind of push.

I'm by no means a big player, but I happen to rely on other income streams as well. For me, this is merely some extra pocket money. I wouldn't dare to rely on microstock income alone.

But don't let that discourage you. It's a great extra stream of revenue, also in the future. Some images may even earn you money years down the line, so it's not all for nothing.

How do I download my CSV's of previous years? The whole financials page is messed up. No visible balance, no CSV download link, nothing.

Edit: Got 'em. Could they have made it more cumbersome? use an old link, then add 12 to the offset value for each year? Why do old pages have to stop working before the new system is in place?

Portfolio size: +4%

Earnings: -8%

However, my total earnings all agencies combined (compared to 2015): +17%

Select:  "Foreign tax ID - check "foreign tax ID" in case you are providing your foreign tax identifying number instead of a U.S. taxpayer identification number "

You should then fill in your foreign tax ID number a.k.a. your own social security number. No need to apply for an ITIN if you're an individual. You should still be able to use the 5% tax from the treaty.

But is it possible to upload through ftp

No, Istock doesn't like modern technology. They love reinventing the wheel though. Except the wheel ends up being square-shaped and without spokes.

I once had a request for a buy-out of one of my vector illustrations, netting me a four figure number.

My biggest non-buyout sale was a Single & Other sale on SS which netted me $128.

Can't reach the site.

That is so scary but I'm happy to hear your port is back up. Gives me faith in SS.

Meh. It just goes to show that SS thinks it can simply disable accounts "no questions asked" and rob the copyright holder of a few days of income without any compensation afterwards.

1187
I assume you have contacted them immediately with proof you made the photos? It's weird that the concept 'innocent until proven guilty' doesn't exist at SS, but if you're the rightful owner, they should reinstate your account ASAP.

Some On Demands, one 4K video sale, so it's a nice start of the month for me. Not in terms of download numbers though.

How can you know that a video sale is 4K?   I don't see the size at video sales

It was a sale in the $50 range, so that can only be a 4K sale.

There is really no good way to tell.  I've had videos sell for around $100 that are not available in 4k.  The only way I know of to tell if it was a 4k sale is if you make $59.70 because that is 30% of the listed 4k price.

I normally make around $23 per video sale, never had $100 for those. Is that some kind of special sale?
The amount I received for my sale was $55.87.

Canva / Re: Canva Rejection (S)

Are vectors being reviewed at all then? I've uploaded my portfolio more than two years ago and they still show as 'In Review'.

I also uploaded 2y ago, and looks like some of the file were approved, and some rejected. I don't even know where to look for pending images. Is it in the same place (Account settings -> Admin -> View portfolio)?

Yes, if it's pending it says 'In Review'.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Hourly Rate for 2016
« on: December 11, 2016, 05:40 »
I've seen people posting on here who have tens of thousands of files and they sell a couple of hundred dollars a month. There's nothing wrong with earning a couple of hundreds of dollars a month, but if you've put in thousands of hours of work to get to that point.... is it really worth it?

Depends. If I'm between assignments, and I have some spare time, it's better to spend those hours on your portfolio instead of watching tv. Even if the hourly wage is low.

Kinda weird we have to reupload the tax forms just because they decided to use new tax forms. I didn't see anything different by the way, it's just the usual W8-BEN form for me.

A small port and lots of competition, plus a mid-tier agency. What did you expect?

Keep growing your portfolio and you'll see some decent returns. Overall, it's no get-rich-quick thing, but 7 years to reach a $50 payout is unusual, even on CanStock.

One rule of thumb: does the food look tasty? If so, you're doing it right.

Your food photos look bland and unappealing.

And like some people have said before, never place text over a photo.

Yes, they have pretty decent royalty option.
I really wish they'd marketed the product properly.
I think the cost of marketing is often underestimated

That's no reason not to invest money in it.
