Cutcaster / Re: Encouraged to submit, but rejected when I do
« on: July 11, 2010, 07:25 »
Posting about rejections without posting samples of the images?  Not much point really.
Good point. These were rejected.

Cutcaster / Encouraged to submit, but rejected when I do
« on: July 11, 2010, 06:07 »
I read recently, somewhere on Cutcaster about the images wanted. Something that they want is religious and diverse stuff. I have tons of images of Eastern religions. I thought I'd submit a few to cc, as I haven't  submitted in a while. I sent them just 6, 1 was accepted, the rest rejected for poor lighting. I just can't fathom how the one which was accepted had better lighting than the others. Is it a case of a lazy reviewer, hovering his cursor over the same rejection answer. Again, the old cliche, "these images were accepted in the top 6".

As much as I like Cutcaster, I don't think I have any motivation in sending anymore images. I haven't had a sale this year (a few last year), I don't mind that I'm all for giving a site time, it can take years for a site to become successful. But if they don't want my images, not much point really.

Actually, I couldn't login because I changed my email address, and firefox remembered the old one...but I was embarrassed to write that here. It wasn't captcha this time   ::)

The story gets more intricate...Stay tuned folks!

123RF / Re: Nobody upset with 123RF lack of transparency?
« on: July 10, 2010, 09:04 »
I don't expect any transparency from any agency. There are no Watchdogs or regulatory bodies to check the agencies and when you have no one looking over your shoulder, autocratic, control freak natures spring into action. The only kind of watchdogs are forums like these or blogs, but what can we write about cos we don't know what's going on.

Sometime this lack of transparency makes me think that they don`t even report some sales.

If ever an agency tried something like this and was exposed, they would be risking their entire business. Too big of a risk to take I think.

I have a feeling that the OP just made a joke. I searched on the stock sites he/she mentioned and I could only find a SIFD member on DT with no pictures in portfolio at all. Of course, the OP might use a different ID for stock site account.

Lol, I did the same. It would be great to see the images. ???

Crestock.com / Re: Crestock - new owner?
« on: July 06, 2010, 10:23 »

That coupled with Crestock previous history of random rejections, slow review and worst slow payments the new owners will need to come up with something special to get me interested.

Yeah they were pretty awful. I was always surprised to see the amount of people clambering to be apart of Crestock. I uploaded for a very brief time, but it was a no brainer to stop uploading after they rejected the second batch I sent them, really good sellers too. I know some of you have jumped straight back in. Given slow sales there, might be worth waiting to see if Masterfile can get them into shape a bit first.

I've posed the question in my blog "Is it time to give Crestock another try?" Have a look , you might find it interesting.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Isn't that editorial?
« on: July 04, 2010, 21:37 »
I have the impression most, if not all, big agencies require the credits to both agency and photographer for editorial use, therefore my question.  And an online magazine is editorial too, right?
I had always thought images which were classified as editorial, not any image which was used in an editorial publication. Seems I'm wrong though.

Isn't what editorial? The shots are not for editorial usage only. As far as I know buyers don't have to credit the agency or the photographer.

Newbie Discussion / Re: New Microstocker from Canada :)
« on: July 04, 2010, 02:29 »
You need to learn to differentiate between your good stuff and your mediocre stuff. Your not so good stuff brings your portfolio down, get rid of it and only show what's great. These are the images from your port. that I think that work, Insects, Iphone, Raindrops, Energy. These don't work, Cool Dude, Branch 2, Porcupine, Soft, Stairway, Coffee.

thank you. funny my 5 days a week full time job only pays $2200 and i always hated it. maybe my problem is that i'm too cautious

Your monthly income from working part time in microstock is a currently $3500 a month! Give up your day job. Go full time as a microstocker. Don't look back. Life's too short to be doing jobs you don't like, especially if you have options.

123RF / Re: Different sales prices at 123RF
« on: June 30, 2010, 03:19 »
I had two L sales this week, one earned me Us$1.35, the other US$4.  I didn't know we could have such different sales prices at 123RF.

BTW, do we still get 50% in credit sales?

I've had a couple of the $4 sales. I was wondering about them too. On Inmagine, the images come under the Value 150 section. I'm in Indonesia and the prices are shown to be 150,000 rupiah, which is approximately $15. It makes sense though as I assume both 123rf and Inmagine take a cut.

Off Topic / Re: Whitechild became Dreamframer
« on: May 27, 2010, 00:54 »
I got to admit, the notion did cross my mind too, but only momentarily. Just have to read anyone of your posts to see that, you are more than a nice guy. It is unfortunate that you've been forced by circumstances to change ur username. However, probably a wise decision. There have been so many white supremacist movements and also governments in recent history (the word recent also has it's own interpretation), that people could easily form a negative perception of your name, whether that could affect sales, I don't know. The name Dreamframer is also a memorable one. Anyway, whatever the name, it's the photos that count.

Lol, I don't care where the sales come from, so long as they keep coming. However, it's astonishing that figures for the US are so low.

I like hearing success stories too. My first EL was on ss and I was just so happy to get a decent jump in earnings, only had one other since then, but more will come for sure. 3 in one hour, 1 day even, is great and encouragement for us to stick with it.

Excellent news and you deserve it. The image is out of this world by the way   :D

New Sites - General / Re: Clustershot.com
« on: April 06, 2010, 01:18 »

WARNING: For anyone who has been considering a pro-account with us this 1-2 day window is your last shot at getting in at the $20.00/year for your first year. When we launch the new updates we are raising our prices to a staggering $50.00/year. The big new feature launching is a very cool and very slick pro-store/page customization. Your own logo, choose a font, you own backgrounds, colours, etc.

You initially started with an almost idealistic stance. You then started charging $20 for pro. accounts, which most people can take with a pinch of salt. Now it will be $50 a year, which you yourself describe as 'staggering', which is odd to say the least for a company to describe it's own prices. It also leaves me with the impression that you aren't making much from buyers, which was your initial intention and are going down the road of making money from photographers. So from free to $20 to $50 to.....? Thanks for the WARNING:

New Sites - General / Re: Clustershot.com
« on: April 03, 2010, 10:18 »
Last month I got a sale on clustershot for $100, with just 30 images online with them. I still haven't opened a pro ac. yet though and probably won't until I'm able to syndicate my stuff from iSyndica. The cool thing about the image that was bought is that only a few months ago, I disabled the image which was only on dt and hadn't sold, because I felt that the image could fetch more one day.

Microstock News / Re: Getty Images to aquire 123RF!!
« on: April 01, 2010, 13:41 »
Didn't getty acquire crestock LAST April 1st?  They have a history of this. lol

No, it was crestock acquiring istock last year or the year before. It was on crestock's front page for a while, and istock threatened to sue them.

No, it was Crestock aquiring Corbis in 08. You're playing with fire if you mess with Bill lol.

Off Topic / Re: Earth Hour
« on: March 26, 2010, 00:45 »
Yeah, I will take part, it's tomorrow at 8.30pm. On the 16th was Nyepi in Bali. Everyone on the island switches off the lights and and electrical appliances for 24 hours. Also noone is allowed out of their houses or hotels and no planes are allowed to land. It's a day of peace and quiet and a day of introsepection. A lot of expats on the island panic when this day comes around and even book into hotels where they are allowed a bit more liberty. However, I really enjoy the day. Silence is bliss as they say.

I got the email too, just as I was approaching the $50, $4.78 away. Over the last month I've been sending small batches, 2's and 4's and they've rejected probably over 90% of what I sent them. Where as they would virtually take it all before that. I have had 4 sales, 3 of them being subscriptions and I'm sure I'll get to the $50 with referrals and more sales. Anyway no more uploading for me.  :)

edited: corrected the subscription figure

I have been away too long, what is the plural of "pulling my leg"?

Pulling our collective leg, No, pulling our legs is fine.
I agree with BaldricksLegs, should be Big 4, as the other aren't even close. Could this be a record for the most amount of legs written in a post. Anyway, it's Friday night, I'm off out to get legless.

DepositPhotos / Re: Who has had sales at DepositPhotos?
« on: February 19, 2010, 06:42 »
3 sales, 1 standard, 2 subs. Quite encouraging for a new site. I agree with cybernesco, we should support sites like this. However, most sites become greedy once they become popular. It's a shame but microstock agencies don't answer to anyone, so they do what they like.
