I don't see any point in pricing as low as $10. I never know if someone wants to buy a clip, all sorts of low quality clips still sell and buyers don't seem to have any problem paying at least x3 more than $10. You have to sell a lot more of those $10 clips to make up for a few lost sales at higher prices. Why price video clips at similar prices to stills when they cost more to produce? I think that just the time it takes to edit and upload them means they need to sell for more than a photo that could take less than a minutes work. Otherwise, you might as well stick to stills.

I'm not even leaving the clips that don't sell much, I will just leave one clip on the site. Everything can sell and I don't want a buyer to buy something on istock when they could find it on another site that pays me much more.

I hardly ever use my Canon stuff now, using Panasonic and Sony. Will probably get another Panasonic cameras next for 4K video. Canon have lost the plot, apart from the high end pro cameras that might be a waste of money for microstock when they become obsolete so quickly.

I only uploaded a small part of my portfolio and there are so few sales, it isn't worth deleting them. I gave up on contributors doing anything to stop sites doing what they want when I removed most of my images from istock but others were uploading all they could. If some of us make a stand while others carry on uploading, it isn't going to make much difference.

Looks like you have been doing timelapse for years, great clips. I think these will sell well, especially on Pond5. There's lots of people doing them but there's still less competition than there is with stills. I didn't sell many timelapses for a few years but now I'm getting regular sales. Mine have less competition but are mostly of places that are in less demand. I've sold one I took in London that I thought was quite average compared to the competition.

I can't see a deactivation link now, how do you do it?
I don't know if it's the same with video, but with stills, from the file's homepage: Click Administration (Under the details section, right hand column). Nothing seems to happen, but right at the very top left of the page, a Manage File link appears in a dark grey bar. (Yeah, I know, totally counter-intuitive, but it's been like that for a while now.) Hover over Manage File and Deactivate File is the bottom of your three choices.
Thanks, I still can't seem to find a way to do it. I sent an email asking them to deactivate all my clips or explain how I can do it. Luckily they don't sell many of the few I left there, so I'm not too bothered.

Off to deactivate the few video clips I had left there.

featurepics did OK for years giving us a high percentage, was it 70%? And that was with low sales volume compared to the big sites. Alamy used to give us 60%. I think all the sites could make a nice profit paying us 78% if they have high sales volume but they know almost everyone will put up with much less.

Nice to have a new site that appears to be selling images but I find it almost unbelievable that you aren't accepting the big images. You need to change that policy now. The first rule for any new site should be to cater for all buyers and lots like to crop or do big posters or have other reasons for wanting the highest resolution possible. Even super high definition screens need large mp images now. There's no future in new sites that don't see where the market is heading, even video is going to 4k, 8k and probably beyond in the next decade.
I will upload some images but wont get enthusiastic until you accept high mp images.

I removed most of my portfolio a long time ago. Left enough to get an occasional payout. Never regretted it, I hate feeling that I have to put up with anything a site does to me. Just wish everyone felt the same. I think the vast majority of contributors will carry on uploading until the sites pay them nothing. There's probably some that would pay them to sell their images

Good timing with the latest debacle at istock. Hope you can get some of their customers that don't like paying a fixed price for any size.

Most of the sites that have tried selling at one price for all sizes have failed or have had to offer cheaper prices for smaller sizes. So I think even more buyers will leave istock now, as they never see sense and scrap a bad idea.

I have given up trying to withdraw my money. Another 30 minutes of my life ruined by istock

This is crazy, still can't get on the request earnings page, I get taken to the home page every time I press the link. Have they stopped paying us now?

No improvement in sales and the site is so slow that it is taking me ages to withdraw the pittance they have paid me. Wish they had an automatic withdrawal, would save me a lot of time.

Its one of the sites that I really wouldn't mind if it had closed. There's far too many low earning sites, takes too much time to upload to all of them.

I like my Nikon 1 V1. Got it for a good price, they seem to devalue very fast, so I wouldn't get the newest one for a few months. The telephoto zoom is much smaller and lighter than an equivalent would be on a micro 4/3 camera. Ideal for travel and I sell photos from this camera on the micros and alamy. The sensor size snobs don't like it but I ignore them

Honest question, because I am intrigued.
What does it take to make $3K per month from 500-800 images on Shutterstock?
I can only dream of ever being so good, and to achieve such thing.
I would love to see a port like that. It has to be like an Angel peeing in your eyes.
$3.75 per image per month with 800 images just on SS. I think less than 1% of contributors could do that. I would find that easier to do if I didn't need the money. Just produce 1 great image a week for 800 weeks.

Can't remember when my last sale there was. Amazes me how these small sites keep going.

I sell a lot more with Pond5 than with SS. Gave up on istock a long time ago.

I'd rather imagine them doing the opposite and paying us more. There's not much point in supplying sites that have cut commissions too much. If SS took the bold step to pay us more, they could become even more dominant.
Perhaps it is a coincidence that the other sites that cut commissions have all fallen behind SS in the earnings poll here and perhaps they are still making lots of money but I'd rather believe that you get what you pay for and paying us peanuts isn't working.

I'm pleased that after removing all my best images, I don't earn much with istock now and the amount they're taking back isn't too big. Can't imagine how bad this must be for the big earners there. I wonder how much they will be taking back from Yuri? They should at least give people some compensation for their enormous blunder but that's not how they operate.

I still like alamy. I think it makes sense for them to encourage people to upload more, as the huge collection is their USP. They sell my microstock images and ones that I'm sure would make almost nothing on the microstock sites. It would be nice if they sold more but January was quite good and hopefully that will continue for the rest of the year.
