sorry to hear about it. Paypal saved my butt when a company i bought a lens from went broke. I had a suspicion about this and they quickly refunded my money.
I never send anything without proof of postage. Lesson learned from other experiences.

We all get a bit busy this time of year, so I thought I would pass on my wishes to all the forum.
Been a hectic year for business, and we lost Miz.
It is hot as hell here in Australia, and that must be odd for you folk about to see anothe white Christmas.
So anyway, from Brisbane, in Queensland, in Australia ... please have a great time over the break, stay safe, and remember to enjoy the times you get with your friends and family.
Cheers.
David

What date in the month do they pay? I am still waiting from last month. Went to the site and asked the question and all they said is it is an automatic thing. I checked all my options and they are ok.

Just sold my 30D on eBay for good money, and a 10-20 Sigma (for $250 more than I paid - thanks exchange rates!) and hoping to buy mine on Saturday.
The shop promised me a great deal.

Good to hear John.
I would like to hear from a site that actually gets out and knocks on doors of designers.

I have to agree with Adelaide. When I went to the site there were "single" ads for Asian women.
Not very professional.

Consolidation is part of the normal business cycle. Times like these cash rich companies buy out cash poor - asset rich acquistions.
Personally I believe that most of the smaller players (not StockXpert) are only in it in the hope a major player buys them out.
I would be very surprised if DT and SS are not in talks with either a buyer, or a seller.

from psdonline ... SuperStock Bankrupt; Masterfile In Deal To Acquire U.S. Assets Dec 4, 2008

By Daryl Lang
Long-suffering stock photo distributor SuperStock has filed for bankruptcy, leaving its contributors in the lurch and opening the way for rival Masterfile to acquire the agencys U.S. assets for $1.5 million.
Under SuperStock's bankruptcy plan, Masterfile or whoever ultimately acquires SuperStock will have the option of taking over some, all or none of SuperStocks contracts with 1,200 photographers. SuperStock owed about $1,162,000 in royalties to photographers at the end of September, according to a court filing.
Photographers may see their contracts turned over to Masterfile, sold to some other company or terminated altogether. If a photographers contract is terminated, any royalties paid are likely to be pennies on the dollar. SuperStock's parent company estimates there will be enough money to cover only 4 percent of its debts to unsecured creditors.
Whatever the eventual outcome, it is another headache for stock photographers, who are already dealing with declining prices, changing contracts and industry consolidation.
On December 4, the holding company that owns SuperStock, A21, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection at the United States Bankruptcy Court in Jacksonville, Florida, where the company is based. The filing covers the U.S. division of SuperStock and the other company A21 owns, a poster and merchandise seller called ArtSelect. Together, the companies employed about 150 people at the end of 2007.
A21 was founded in 1998 and has never had a profitable year. In recent years it has been a revolving door for managers. Since 2006, A21 has lost a founder/CEO, chairman/president, chief financial officer, and chief creative officer.
The bankruptcy plan will see A21 divesting everything it owns.
A21 says Masterfile has agreed to buy SuperStocks U.S. operations for $1.5 million. The Toronto-based stock agency, an established company with a good reputation among photographers, has put down a $50,000 deposit on the deal, A21 says. But the deal could change if the bankruptcy court finds somebody willing to pay more.
SuperStocks U.K. division is not in bankruptcy, but A21 says it plans to sell that division to a third party as well. As yet, that party has not been named.
A21 plans to sell ArtSelect to a New Jersey company called Metaverse for $700,000. A21 paid about $10 million for ArtSelect in May 2006.

Paulie I was a freelance journalist and photographer before I started stock.
The glam that comes with having your name as a byline is outweighed by having to work with the scum of the publishing world ... newspaper editors.
They lie, promise to pay top dollar, delay your payment until you cut the invoice amount down to next to nothing. Steal your images, reuse them over and over. Not worth it.
The best thing you can do in that world is working with smaller magazines etc, or find who are the top writers and be their photographer.

I generally sold 5 -10 images a month. Now I have edited all of them to reject the subscription sales and placed $50 as a price.
Would be funny if I sold some. But in any case, it is worth the experiment.

The Canon 300D Rebel is still my old favourite. It made me thousands from stock sales. I sold it yesterday with a stack of stuff to a young girl doing photography at uni for $300AUD.
There are stacks of 300D fan sites around.
For best results, shoot RAW. Try to keep ISO at 100.

Now they are available, I see them discounted from the RRP of $4199AUD down to $3699AUD.
$3699 = $2404USD ... but.
If you are from overseas, you get a 10% GST reduction. The overseas or Duty Free price I was quoted yesterday is $2187USD.

Yeah stokfoto ... supply will be a big thing. I have been checking all the Drop Shipper sites and they have reduced the price down to about $1450USD.
So I imagine there is still a good supply of grey market.

What area of study for your PhD?
I guess what you are talking about is the posts that are raised out of total frustration by some of the people here.
The world is changing, people are changing, business is changing, and the relationships that form in that is changing.
One of the big things I notice from this and other forums is that despite this concept of Globalism, we are really a long way from making it all succeed. And this my friend, is a consequence of culture.
People from one culture are used to doing business in a certain way, while those from another culture do things the way that suits them. A shock to many of us is to discover what we find unethical or personally offensive is considered the norm in another culture.
An example from me is how some sites say this is our rules, so stiff if you dislike. And they are prepared to burn an artist as there are many more to take their place. Unless of course that artist is one of the main players.
My lesson learned from the past 3 years is to finally accept that, and to delete my portfolios from sites that I cannot work with.
