« on: July 09, 2011, 15:56 »
To give an example of how bad things are for some of us emeralds, last year in June I made over 1500$ this year I made less than 500$.  This has hit me really, really badly. Dt has been able to make up for it a bit but obviously not  nearly enough.

Did you upload regularly? Did you not do something you used to (getting the best models, locations, lighting etc) or do you think it's completely FT's fault?
I didn't change anything and it was too sudden to be anything that I did. Also it coincided with others saying the same at around the same time.

@fotografer

I have to admit, that is a shockingly huge percentage of your sales dropping, even if you had stopped contributing a year ago (which I am assuming you didn't)...

Did you experience a sudden drop, that may have corresponded with the FT search engine change a few months ago?
Yes it changed virtually from one month to the next with no change in my upload pattern.

What if this image ended up on signage for a dental ad and remained on a building for 20 years.  Say your daughter's now constantly reminded... "HEY THAT'S YOU HAHAHAHAHA".  Everyone tells everyone else and your poor daughter, who's now 22, has a very serious nature about her, is considering a career in politics, is stuck with that image for life... and no one ever takes her seriously because of it.  Now did the few bucks you saved selling that image that went towards her college degree actually help her in life or did it scar her for life?
Oh come on every kid that I ever went to school with had a class photo taken every year including the year that they had no front teeth.  Every other kid in the class had a copy which could be brought out in later years to embarrass them.  Why is that any different?
The sort of kid that happily models isn't likely to grow up to be an introverted private person that gives a toss about that sort of thing.

I have them all set to 'no' and if somebody asks me to sell one then I decide the price depending on how well it is selling.  If it is a good selling image then I set the price at 5 or 6 thousand but if it is an image that has hardly ever sold then I set it at 800 or 1000.  So far I have sold a couple at the lower prices but never at 6000.

The stock agencies love images of children.Designers love images of children.Good money can be made from shooting children. If you need the money you take photographs of your children  ::)
I believe you can make money from other sources. That's really the point i'm trying to make !
You seriously talk some crap sometimes Shank. Most kids I know would much rather stand in front of a camera, than mow the lawn, wash the dishes, make beds, or do a paper round but you go ahead save some money, make your kids do the chores instead of employing somebody else to do it.
What is an hour or two here and there getting your photos taken when it means better holidays, and a better lifestyle in general?

Squealing and cattleprods and evil laughing. That's microstock. You've already mastered everything you need to know about the industry.

So proud of you! You've come a long way in this thread, and from uncertain beginnings you've become the man you are today.

Love a happy ending : )
I love your posts and your wicked sense of humour.  Always brings a smile to my face.:D

StockFresh / Re: Latest on Stockfresh Marketing
« on: June 11, 2011, 10:51 »
So refreshing to see an honest answer, unlike some other new sites that promised lots and failed to deliver.  I'm sure lots of people wont have the patience to stick this out but I'm going to give them as long as it takes.
I agree and it's because of this that I am rooting for this site.

I was also admitted within a couple of days of applying but sales are very slow so far. I've been with them about 2 months now and total sales only recently went into double figures.  I hope that they take off as I have found them very helpful and friendly.

There's no categories, it took me a few seconds to drag a bunch of files in to my FTP program and then a few seconds to press one link on stockfresh.  That's all you have to do, so I think it's worth it.  Don't know if it's more time consuming with MR's.
Just about everywhere is more time consuming when you have model released images.  Just the process of uploading dozens of releases is time consuming and then they have to be attatched to each image.   I would upload to a lot more sites if most of my images weren't model released.

I've had a 2.70$ sale and a few 90c ones over the last couple of days.

DT are already my top earner. I've been getting an RPD of around 3$ for nearly a year now which is way higher than the what I get at other sites.

Same here and  I'm also emerald.  I have also gone from averaging 50 euros a day to averaging 20 euros a day.  It was a dramatic drop from one month to the next about 6 months ago which also makes me think that it was a best match change.   Luckily Dt has gone more or less the same in the other direction to take most of the loss or I would be hysterical now. Ft was my best earner and DT my 4th and now it is the other way round, Dt is my best earner and Ft my 4th.

Image Sleuth / Re: Lisafx - illegal use
« on: May 31, 2011, 13:44 »
Thanks for the headsup.  I will let Dreamstime know and hopefully they can deal with this.  It is both a stolen image, and also an arguably sensitive use.
I've deleted the link now Lisa, no point in getting it more attention now that you have seen it.

Yeah, but Peebert was there when it was more like a club than a business. He was so off-the-wall I had trouble understanding what he meant half the time.

Glad you said that. I always thought that there was a party going on, everyone was drunk or high but me because I never got the joke or got what they were saying.  :D
+2  but what I could understand he was extremely offensive!!!

Also for those of us that started 5 or 6 years ago when the competition wasn't so fierce it was pretty easy. Nowadays it is a lot more difficult to get established enough to make a lot of money.

I've been a member of shutterstock for a while now and have been getting annoyed when I sign into submit.shuttershock.com then go to view my portfolio or search other images on the site the site logs my account out...

No it doesn't I just tried it. Or how about ctrl + click... for gods sake... :)))
It's never done it to me either.
