Needs to be both - had some rejected for the same reason and box was ticked for all of them.

I was hoping that would be a Yes  ;D  I hope to get more files on to SS than IS while recognising that I'll probably have more rejections than from the other 2.

how about some stats? (I add a little increase on Oct, but not done yet..)

I think that you will be a lot better than what I am these days.. so keep up! (not easy to upload, work, rejections etc..)

go for the quality, you would do a lot better.. (dont have much but I am working to get there)

A slightly personal question (and on a complete tangent) - is the port size on each of the sites a reflection on the toughness of the reviewers?   :-\

congrats.  Lots of people struggle a lot with the Shutterstock application.

Having been beaten up on isock for a few months I had enough for the "entrance exam" - would have been a different story a few months back.  Of course, putting your best efforts in at the start means the only direction to go is down  :(

General Stock Discussion / Re: refusal to approval ratio
« on: November 18, 2010, 12:26 »
On DT acceptance ratio affects the number of images you can upload in a week and there's some rumour that it's a factor in image placement on searches - probably neither is a significant problem.  I think it takes a bit of time on every site to get a sense of what's likely to be approved.  My inclination would be to start slow with the best images having reviewed them for technical flaws @ 100% and use the acceptances and rejections to inform the next batch.

Submitted my initial 10 last night.  All approved this morning + 1st sale & they haven't even appeared in my portfolio yet  ;D

Dreamstime.com / Re: Special promotion: 10,000,000 files online!

Nice but I can't help feeling they will only use a tiny bit of the money they have made from our commission cuts.

I knew someone would have to say that.

Let's look at it this way - Istock cut royalties to less than half what Dreamstime pays, and they simultaneously eliminated Punctum Day awards.

Are we so beaten down that we can't even enjoy a bit of good news? Considering how much bad news there has been out of the micros lately, I am more than happy to give Dreamstime credit where credit is due.

Words like "gift horse" and "mouth" come to mind   :) It's only a gesture but it's a NICE gesture...

Photo Critique / Re: Portfolio Critique
« on: November 17, 2010, 06:44 »
I'm too new at the game to give portfolio advice but I think it would be worth your while looking at fotilia also.  Review standards seem similar to DT - I only started in August and am getting twice as many sales as DT with half the portfolio.  I'm also getting equivalent sales to DT on istock with < 5% of my DT portfolio (really tough reviewers but good incentive to try and produce better technical quality).  Looking at SS - I gather they are pretty tough also but hope to get my istock images on there at least.

How about Hag

Folks can do magical stuff with PS but this was all done with enlargers and chemicals...

General Stock Discussion / Re: Isolations and more isolations!
« on: November 15, 2010, 13:27 »
Some designers just like isolations.  Sometimes I do a "proper picture" and an isolation of the main subject (can be done with virtually zero effort in 3D) and they seem to sell about equally.

3D? You lost me?

I don't have the kit to produce photos of the required technical standard so mostly submit 3d renders - depending on which tool, I can either render the subject directly on to pure white (or any other colour) or create a transparancy mask at the same time as the main image.  Pity the agencies don't accept pngs as that has gotta mean less effort for designers...

Shutterstock.com / Newbie question on SS ID policy
« on: November 14, 2010, 15:33 »
SS is now the only big 4 site I'm not submitting to.  I applied some time ago but was put off by the requirement to submit a scan of my passport (driving licence deemed not to be enough).  Am I being paranoid on the whole security / identity theft front?  Is is possible to submit with the number blacked out?
