General Stock Discussion / Sales stats into excel
« on: June 20, 2015, 17:32 »
I built a little tool for my own use which pulls port and sales data (each individual sale) from the top 5 into an Access database and  allows me to slice and dice, export to Excel etc etc.  This is not a slick "product" like what is commercially available and not really suitable for distribution.  However, I could fairly easily adapt the code to work in individual excel files for the various sites.

Given the tools that are already out there, and I haven't looked at them in any detail, is this something anyone would be interested in if made available for a nominal sum?

iStockPhoto.com / Partner portal??
« on: February 28, 2015, 10:46 »
Just noticed a number of additional PP sales @ $0.19 a pop all on 19th Jan and with the site listed as "Partner Portal" - is this something new?

General Stock Discussion / Surprising fact from doing the survey
« on: February 10, 2015, 17:27 »
I usually don't do these things due to the insignificance of the earnings but do have very good stats.  On the question about where was the biggest decrease over the last year, I would definitely have said DT, but, surprise, surprise, it was SS (course this was based on $ amounts rather than %).

Adobe Stock / Refunds?
« on: December 15, 2014, 17:54 »
Nobody like them but most sites notify you when it happens.  I noticed that there was a discrepancy between my stats extract and what the stats were saying on FT.  As it could have been a bug in my own scripts I tracked it down to a sale in Sept that got deducted from earnings in November. I don't recall any notification (may have got and deleted) so just curious if anyone else has had any?

Just uploaded a few and the criteria said 17MB (or approx 6 MP) although it still says 24MB everywhere else..

123RF / Bug?

Does this work for anyone?

I have some scripts that pull port and sales data from various sites (including this page) - thought it was a bug my side but seems not..

Site Related / The dial thingies

Are those little dials to represent IS and DT performance based on port size or sales?

123RF / Have to log in every time I go to the site
« on: June 11, 2014, 16:25 »
Since today, to look at downloads I have to accept the terms and conditions go through a login, navigate from history to other options and then select the downloads page (which is where the original bookmark is pointing).  This is a real pain!!

General Stock Discussion / Numbers don't lie (or do they)?
« on: May 23, 2014, 17:09 »
Waiting for next project to start so very, very bored in the office.  Started playing with MS Office VBA & pulled port & sales data from the various sites.  Looking at RPI, which is probably the fairest way to compare site performance, I have some lessons (my strange little port may not translate to the more commercially minded).

Lesson 1 (recent. jpg): Ranking on the right holds up except to reverse DT and FT the chart below accounts for getting FT sales in .  Also, even with all the lousy decisions, IS (with PP) looks like firm #2 and pretty close to SS have to force myself to put the rest of my port there.

Lesson 2: (fromstart.jpg)  Look what happened to IS they were blowing everyone outta the water and now

Lesson 3: Interesting how the contribution form IS and the PP has changed over time

Some excuse here (as long as reviewing consists of a quick look at the thumb which is probably what happens these days)

iStockPhoto.com / Payment

Requested payment on 27 Feb and it seems there was a paypal transfer on 3 March according to their schedule but no money - is this normal?

iStockPhoto.com / IS earnings ranking
« on: January 26, 2014, 12:33 »
My experience is probably skewed by a tiny port but, before the changes I would have said RPI in IS was about 3 times SS.  Since all the "initiatives" I reckon they are now somewhere below 123 yet remain high in the non-exclusive earnings poll.  Possibly some are ex-exclusive who haven't migrated all their material yet but wondering what is the experience generally?

General Stock Discussion / Food for thought
« on: December 19, 2013, 17:15 »
Someone (Ron I think) posted over at SS.

http://markstoutphotography.wordpress.com/2009/08/06/the-time-magazine-cover-photo-ripoff/

Probably lots of you have seen this already as it's older than my time in microstock but right on the money.  MS really doesn't provide a viable source of income for most contributors.  Talk of organising the proletariat to do something about this is pie in the sky and sites like offset / stocksy are so far up their own arses that they need a torch to see where they are going but there is the germ of a viable alternative there.  Suppose a new or even an existing site with normal top4 acceptance standards were to offer stocksy prices / royalties how may would be prepared to take the risk an put their entire ports there as exclusive content?  This could work but only if cheap sites can't compete based on content.

I've noticed a couple of posts have mysteriously disappeared, no locking, no lobo rant, just sneakily gone - does this happen a lot on the forum?

iStockPhoto.com / Scout?
« on: October 03, 2013, 17:34 »
Do scout tickets actually get answered and, if so, after how long?  Question for non-exclusives I guess as I'd exclusives, even non-editor's pick ones, must have some element of preferential treatment

iStockPhoto.com / Suggestions?
« on: August 24, 2013, 13:43 »
So, I've been including them in my uploads recently (under the "we'll accept any old sh1te" regime) given that RPI, even at 20% of what it was, is still not too bad  (relatively speaking).  More than doubled my port (which isn't saying much) in the last few weeks with no image quality rejects.  However, I have had one rejected for model release and have a half dozen sitting there pending model release (all 3d renders).  I had a polite reply from contributor relations who obviously completely missed the point I was making and no response on the subsequent clarification.

Seems that model releases are a jpeg - should I just upload a jpeg with "this isn't a real person"?

123RF / Sighs of relief at 123 HQ
« on: July 06, 2013, 09:12 »
  ;D

DLs do seem to be increasing and earnings for June exceeded any month in 2012 without anything new added since October.  Guess I might as well start again

iStockPhoto.com / Deepmeta?
« on: July 05, 2013, 15:46 »
Seeing as acceptance criteria now seem the same (or lower) than the other top 3 I figure I might as well upload the back catalog as they still generate relatively good RPI (despite everything). Can someone point me towards deep meta & how it's used (don't fancy going through that nasty upload one by one)

So I was looking at a thread on SS earlier about someone having a great (un-quantified) day, and folks chiming in about their various levels of double digit daily sales.  From where I sit, high double digit looks pretty good but, in hard cash, it's peanuts, probably a nice "extra" but no way could it be considered a living.

Over here there is probably a fair percentage of actual pro submitters but I suspect a lot of us are what Lagereek would call weekend shooters.  I reckon MS accounts to about 2% compared to income from the day job and wonder, with all talk of BMEs on the one hand and angst about best match on the other, what the pattern of actual reliance on MS income is across the folks who post here.

All I can say is wow!!  Too good for stock but seems to sell really well without a "businessman" in sight.
