Just tried this search on Shutterstock "Black, Businessman, Standing" with 50 images showing 20 images are of White businessman standing. To get black Businessmen only would I have to put the words "African Descent or Afro American"?
I think half the battle is educating the users on the features available. Creating a good search engine is difficult if the users don't make use of any features outside of the basics. Even Google becomes that much more powerful if you exclude a keyword or two. The SS example, you would just check the 'People search' and select African American (or the other options they have depending what you mean) from the list...

If there is an exclusive advantage for uploads, I'm sure not feeling the love this month

...This has never happened before.
I would say it has from time to time. An example in the DT threads (and the subsequent response from the admins that it would catch up in 48h): http://www.dreamstime.com/thread_17319I haven't seen anything this time around on DT yet that they are on it...

My balance is growing as per 'normal'. I've seen at least 8 sales today via the Facebook tool, plus a couple from the early AM. (but they are not showing up in the earnings page with thumbnails yet...)

According to the survey, DT represents about 4.6% of persons average sales whereas SS is 36% and IS is 22%. Getting your images on these two sites appears to account for over 50% of revenue or 10X the revenue of DT. I understand there is problems with IS and the compensation lowering but it still seems to be outperforming the lower rated microstock sites.
Careful how you read the results - the part of the survey that pegs Dreamstime at 4.6% is the number of people reporting that site as their top earner, not a percentage of total sales.

Back up today, but according to admins the thumbnail server will take time to process images. I'm still not seeing thumbnails for uploads that are awaiting keywords... See this thread for status on the thumbnails: http://www.dreamstime.com/thread_25471

I've had several sales in the last hour or two, and one went from 49 to 50 sales and still shows Level 4 in my profile - but once you click on it you see it as level 5 with level 5 pricing. So DT seems to be working on the things that matter One tip is that if you use the facebook promotion tool it will allow you to see your latest 4 sales before the earning page updates. (You don't have to actually post the link to Facebook to preview your sales...)

Main page on DT states the reports are slow to update...
We are currently experiencing some technical problems that may affect the reports on a few pages. Everything will go back to normal gradually in a matter of days. None of the major pages (download, search etc) is affected by these technical problems. We apologize for the inconveniences.

That is the way DT works - as the image rises through the levels the royalties for non-exclusives rise from 30% up to 50%, and you reach the 50% at 50 downloads on one image. Plus the price rises as you noted... Makes sense in that you don't pay a contributor higher royalties on all their files with small sales, and a person that is new with only a few files and overall sales can reach the highest royalty percentage for their higher quality files.
The downside for a contributor with very high quality content is that new files always sell for low prices at first.

It took shutterstock a while to change their minds about the ITIN and it was worse with FT. Would of been nice if DT had done their research but I am pleased they have reacted quickly.
What does seem amateur is the deadline of September 15th, when people on vacation wont know about this. They also haven't sent an email, lots of people wont know anything about this and that's really bad.
Achilles stated in the first page of the board post: "a news was posted + an email will be sent once everything is cleared and working smoothly. " To me it is a good thing they didn't send every contributor running to their notary on day 1 (yesterday)... I will be disappointed if they don't have some sort of message/warning when someone requests a payout after the 15th if they haven't visited the Tax Center.

Is everybody suffering slow sales or is it just me? I was starting to get really pumped in March and April. Now, I bounce from site to site hoping to see a sale. What happened?
Things are a little slower than last month for me, but it still looks like I'll end up doing a little better than May this month (Dreamstime only). Last year I was feeling the same way in June and July, but by October my revenue was double what it had been in March - hope that repeats!

Why . would anyone want to go exclusive with DT? You could make many times more money by submitting to all the big 4 sites and maybe to some middle tier sites as well.
There just isn't one answer (site) for everyone's portfolio. Why wouldn't you go exclusive with one site if they sold your portfolio better than anyone else? I see a lot of hobbyists who submit to a lot of sites and they don't seem to do any better than me submitting to one site (DT), whether talking monthly revenue or revenue per image... Since there are no exactly equivalent workflows or portfolios the best you can do is make a decision based on your own experience with all the sites. As a hobbyist I enjoy the simplicity of submitting to a single agency - and the dollars they put in my bank account! I also like that when I do a search on DT I can find my own images in the first page of results without having to check 'exclusive'.

A lot depends on how fast you can double your portfolio, too. If you could double it overnight, you would notice a big jump in sales. But if it takes you two years the online collections will probably have doubled, too. Hence why it is easier to ramp up sales in your early days. Once you have 10,000 images online it is pretty hard to ramp up another 10K that are unique enough from the from 10K to jump sales by the same amount.
No easy answer to this question...

My sales are definitely on the rise year over year... This May is more than double May 2009 for me, with only half as many images online. I have some ups and downs on a monthly basis, but quarter to quarter things are trending upwards

I'd go with the 24-105 f/4 as well for my goto lens (on a crop body). I find with the extra few mm I don't pull out the 70-200mm as much, so this lens pretty much stays on my camera unless I'm doing something that requires a macro lens...

I tend to keep just about everything - I sometimes delete really obvious misses in camera.
