No need to rewrite it Warren.  It will be fine.  They are still getting picked up by the big search engines bc you did such a good job submitting the lightbox to them and describing it. Nice work on the motorcross ones ;-)

Let me know what you think of the new functionality though.

Sharpshot, Thank you for your support. I need your help and appreciate it.

http://blog.cutcaster.com/2010/02/02/photo-lightbox-feature-release-new-additions-and-explanations/

I would love any and all feedback. You need to be logged in to see the lightbox preview area.  I hope you guys like but really for the buyers ;-)  I will take in all your feedback so let me know.  Have a good weekend to everyone.

From this point forward Cutcaster is re-branding the Clipfolders and calling them Lightboxes which is an industry standard term that photo buyers are used to seeing.

What is a Lightbox?

As you probably know, a lightbox at Cutcaster is a customized folder that lets a user organize digital photos and illustrations that they would eventually like to download or share with a colleague/friend. Any files can be assigned to a viewable lightbox folder by subject, for later convenience, or used to compile unrelated photos for a specific project layout. Lightboxes also allow photo buyers and graphic designers to show clients options for a project in one simple uncluttered folder.

Use the lightboxes to store a group of photos that you would like to eventually purchase or send to a colleague/friend to review. Lightboxes can be set to private or public depending on your purpose for using them.

I hope the change of names doesnt confuse anyone and hope this makes using Cutcaster easier.

Cutcaster / Re: Sales at CutCaster
« on: February 05, 2010, 16:14 »
From what I can gather through telephone conversations is that price isn't a factor or are they shopping at Cutcaster, finding what they want, and then shopping somewhere else to buy it cheaper.  Has that happened though in the past? Maybe.

Price is rarely a discussion and when it is I think buyers are sort of shocked that people price their images so low bc most are used to seeing $100-1000+ invoices.

I am glad to see more sales. I am constantly working on telling more buyers about the site and signing up deals to get on large buyers vendor lists.  It is a hard process but I am making good inroads and happy w the progress. I'm off to make more sales calls and follow up with customers but wanted to say thank you again for the patience and congrats on the sales. I am happy that more are coming in and for the ones who have not sold yet I hope that you won't throw in the towel and will keep supporting us so we don't end up in a world dominated by 25c subscription payouts and 16% commissions.

Thanks. Still a lot of work and plugging away.

Just about to release new lightbox options and tools at Cutcaster for buyers and also an API which is well overdue and will really help us. Keep an eye out for updates.

Keep your chin up sharpshot. We are getting more sales each month and there is NO WAY we are closing anytime soon. I run a tight ship budget wise and am in this for the LONG HAUL. I know getting up to the top 3 is a challenge but Rome wasn't built in a day and no one ever said this was easy.

Keep up your support. I need everyone's help in order to change the system the way it is now.

I haven't uploaded to either so it's funny I have a rank.  I am sorry to the people behind me. Maybe they count rejects as negative ;-)

Lots of hard work ahead of us but we are going nowhere but up. I was very excited by Nov and Dec's sales. Thanks for the support and keep letting know how we can provide the seller side more value.

What a year 2009 was! With the Aughts (00s) drifting out of our memories and 2010 taking shape before us, we wanted to thank you for your continuous support and give you a glimpse of what to expect in the next 52 weeks.

2010 represents the year of the Photo Buyer and our New Years resolution is to educate more buyers about the benefits of using Cutcaster and sell more photos and illustrations for all our contributors. I know you are not supposed to say your New Years resolution out loud because its twice as onerous a duty but we know the hard work before us is to prove we can find the buyers and provide them with the amazing content they are looking for.

In the New Year, expect us to introduce new tools, sign partnerships to expand our distribution and upload more great content to augment our existing marketplace. We will focus a majority of our time on the following:

    * Increasing photo buying activity on the site
    * Making the checkout area easier to use for bulk buying
    * Tweaking the search algorithm and re-weighting the results so its more diverse and relevant
    * Making more direct sales calls
    * Attending more buyer conferences
    * Introducing some Cutcaster APIs
    * Promoting more exclusive photos and illustrations on Cutcaster
    * Enhancing the clipfolders so they are easier to use and checkout with
    * Spending as much on advertising in both print and online as we can afford

How you can optimize Cutcaster for your business

    * Spread the word through our photo buyer and seller referral program
    * Link back to www.cutcaster.com from your personal site
    * Keep up the enthusiasm, and continue to be a part of something special from the ground up.  Rome wasnt built in a day and we are on the path towards success.

Thanks you so much for your continued support, and as always you can contact us if you need any questions answered or assistance.

We raise our collective glasses to you, our valued Cutcaster member, and wish you all the success and happiness in 2010.

If you are interested in seeing a recap of 2009 follow this link to the blog. http://blog.cutcaster.com/2010/01/05/cutcaster-2009-in-review/

Thank you,

John

Being exclusive or having an image exclusive with us doesn't matter one iota at this point where it shows up in search results.  You do get paid more for it being exclusive. I know why (or think I know) sites give preference to exclusive images. We do not.

Obviously I want exclusive images but until I can prove that Cutcaster can make people a decent living from going exclusive or having an image exclusive with us, i know I will have a hard time getting them.

The big guys may fill more pages bc they have 20-30k images at Cutcaster while m@m has 400. It's that simple.  I can't be any more transparent when I say EVERYONE IS EQUAL and NO ONE IS FAVORED in search preference. This is a fair and open marketplace.  Period.

"I found out that the big guys (Yuri, Monkey, Io, ...) are all aligned in front of us small shrimps. So Rinder will do well."

I am sorry you feel this way or think your research proves this bc I can categorically say it is TOTAL BS. No one contributor gets preference in the search results.

We just released another new tweak that photo buyers, image researchers and those looking to license vector files will hopefully like and use.

Filename search is functional on live. You can now search by watermark filename (which is what you get if you drag & drop the comp onto your desktop), and by the comp filename (if you click on download comp button). These should help photo buyers find the perfect image and illustrations faster at Cutcaster. Let us know what you think.

Try again Marburg.  That was fixed this morning and returns I think very good results now.

@SHARPSHOT   Pagination lately is driving me nutz as well on the site and I am fixing that immediately.

@FD  yeah we made some serious improvements but we are still not done here.  I have noticed that the new changes have been resulting in more sales even today so I am excited to see what starts to happen to conversions.  Keep your fingers crossed.  I will let you know as more tweaks AND filtering tools come out but i am open, like i said in email, to any ideas you have.

Cutcaster / New Search Tweak at Cutcaster. Opinions?
« on: October 22, 2009, 12:02 »
We have tweaked our search algorithm a bit so more variety is returned when doing a keyword search and we made it more refined when searching for compound phrases. It is a work in progress but please let me know what you guys think and if you see any areas of improvement or weirdness in the results.  I have been asking buyers the same questions but would love to hear what you think bc most of you have a vested interest in seeing the search feature working really well so buyers don't waste time searching and not finding what they are looking for ;-)

In addition we are working on improving our upload area, user stats and providing more real time information on what buyers are demanding.  I am very excited to release this work in the future.

New Sites - General / Re: New SWISS Stock

Not sure that image could ever come up for the word "love."

The keywords for the image are

Family man,    at Home,    Keffiyeh,    Middle Eastern,    On The Phone,    Arabic,    Sitting,    Color,    Colour,    Image,    Facial Hair,    Beard,    Indoors,    Inside,    Interior,    Mobile Phone,    Newspaper,    One Person,    Reading,    Smiling,    Traditional Clothing,    Vertical,    Man,    Middle Aged,    40s,    Forties,    Happy,    Cellphone,    relaxing,    at home,    sitting,    sofa,    couch,    lounge,    living room,    paper,    current affairs,    mobile,    cell,    talking

It is an image by Monkey Business which I have to say is one of the best keyworders.  And I just did a search for love on the site and didn't see this image in the first 8 pages of over 100 pages of results.

I released some info on bidding last month in our last press release but wanted to send along a step by step video for how bidding on content works.  Obviously we know bidding is not for everyone but this is a tool that allows photographers to see where demand lies at different pricing levels and allows them to price the content at a price that covers their costs.  The tool is being used more and more and takes place about 9% of the time.  Take a look at the short video that shows how bidding works.  Thanks to Shannon Fagan for taking a video on the spot at Picturehouse this past Wednesday.  That is Justin (in the background) and myself (describing it).  Always weird to see yourself on video ;-)
