"Due to low sales, you cannot modify the price until it sells at least 0 more times"

Well, check again in -2 weeks, maybe it has sold 0 more times then... :o *SCNR*

It looks like FT has recruited key IT-personnel from IS  ;D

Personal EBITDA $0.38 per download

Kinda puts it into perspective

It's more like $0.75 for me, but that doesn't change the perspective much  ;D

May I ask politely how long you have been with Fotolia?

Because their track record is not exactly stellar when it comes to contributor relations, nor are "fair" and "respectful" the first words that come to most people's minds when they think about FT... ;D

Is it possible that agencies are selling our images and not paying us for every sale? Scary thought!!

My wife asks me this almost everyday.
I confess that I am unable to give her an answer

Ask her to do some "mystery shopping", then you'll both have an answer  ;)

As someone wiser than me wrote not too long ago, if you seriously think that your business partner is actively cheating you, then it is time to end the partnership.

Are agencies trying to shift costs for refunds, discounts, etc. towards us? Yes, they do! Are they creative when it comes to rounding sums, calculating currency conversion, etc.? Absolutely! Are they actively cheating us by not reporting sales and skimming money? I don't think so, I believe they are just ruthless, not downright criminal...

Cameras / Lenses / Re: Fuji Finepix x100s - thoughts?
« on: July 31, 2013, 02:57 »
I think I must be the only person in the world for whom the retro look does nothing.  But then I don't think I've ever seen a camera I thought looked especially good, though I do fall in love with a good camera's output easily enough!

I should have been more precise, it's not only the look, it's the return of design elements that were there on my first camera (dating myself here  ;)): An aperture ring on the lens, separated dials for exposure compensation and shutter speed, an optic viewfinder on a "compact" camera, etc...

As Paul said above, I approach things differently depending on which camera I use - I also admit that I'll probably going to use it for "pleasure photography", rather than "business photography"  :D

Anyone else looked at one or picked one up?

Mine is supposed to arrive end of this week. I'm looking forward to having a capable camera that is small enough to be carried with me all the time - not to mention I love the retro look of it  ;D

On Safari it works exactly as described in the forum 231 photos, a lot of which happen to be from the same contributor, who happens to be an Inspector..  ::)

How do you know he is an inspector?

Click on the contributor name, you'll see a whole row of batches, one of which happens to be an "I"...

Just tried it on Firefox (Mac 10.8.4, FF 22.0) with the same, correct result. I have to be logged in, however - otherwise I don't see the "Recent Uploads" button...

Someone from Atlanta, Georgia obviously had a good month, acceptance-wise  :o

After reading the blog post three things occurred to me:
  • I should speak of myself in the third person more often.
  • The royal "we" is used much too sparingly on the internet.
  • If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?

Reminded me of one of my favorite scenes from Kill Bill  :o

Just had my account closed, still feels strange after 8 years  :-\

Just to follow up: They were pretty quick about it. I sent them a sitemail yesterday afternoon and my photos are gone today. In true Fotolia style they sent me an e-mail that a new message was there for me and that I should login to read it - which of course I can't anymore (login, not read ;)).

Ah, but it probably would only say how much they miss me and how sorry they are to see me go...  ;D

Was it closed via email request?
Did you lose some money?

I sent them an e-mail, have not got a reply yet. I just had a payout, so all is left in my account are $0.25. Don't spend it all at once, guys  ;D

« on: July 24, 2013, 10:33 »
Yeah, but an iS 15% is actually 15%, whereas a Fotolia 20% is some notional value that might be 12% due to the fact that they refuse to recognise that there is a relationship between the cash value of money that they receive and the value of the money they pay out.

Apropos of nothing: How did you go about deleting your account at Fotolia? Did you just delete the photos or did you send them an e-mail to delete it completely?

I asked them for payment, they suspended my account, I threatened to inform the FBI and then Chad sent me payment in full and agreed to delete my account.

Thanks, I like the FBI part, I think I will copy that  ;)

...Once the image has sold 3 times, the contributor will have the ability to reset his image price once again.

We are sure these new conditions will give new life to unsold content and will help you to generate even more revenue by increasing the visibility to your unsold content.

Just gotta love this part, even if the photo sells at the lower price you have to reset it manually  :P

Meanwhile on StockXpert: June earnings are in...

SERIOUSLY!!??!!

Absolutely, May earnings have been there since the middle of June, as per their usual schedule...

Weird!  Thanks for the info Ploink.  I thought you might be kidding.

If they can report them to StockXpert, then why not Istock??

I assume they were average earning amounts, not tiny fractions of regular earnings?

Mine were less than usual, but not "a tiny fraction of regular". I thought (and still do) it's the beginning of the summer. But then my sales on the PP never were large or regular enough to draw conclusions from them...

I'm afraid what will happen next is this:
  • Sometime next week the reporting of PP sales in May and June will be officially declared to be finished.
  • Lobo will thank the fine people in IT for their hard work and close the thread.
  • Contributors will protest because they got approx. 5% of their usual sales.
  • People will be banned from the forums.
  • In October there will be an announcement that the PP payments for May and June were not entirely correct, and that will be rectified in the immediate future.
  • In December contributors will ask what exactly "immediate" means in this context.
  • People will be banned from the forums.
  • In February 2014 contributors will receive a lump sum in their accounts, no detailed statistics will be given.

Thanks for listening to my personal conspiracy theory  ;D

Any words of wisdom from Lobo or any of the staff over in iS Forums?

He has "managed to get this escalated pretty high up the chain" - which probably means the Assistant Vice President in charge of Facility Management  ;D

But anyways:
"The birth of on-demand photography could sound the death knell for the stock industry as we know it, says Scoopshot CEO, Niko Ruokosuo:  "Buyers are tired of wading through page after page of stale and over-used photography, before having to compromise. For the first time, they can request exactly what they want and receive it within minutes and without spending a fortune. "

"I'll have a business team, 7 to 8 people between 20-30 years, mixed genders and ethnicities, of course. Modern office space, but nothing too fancy - should have a great skyline in the background, though..."

"Coming right up, sir, would you need a girl with a headset with that?"

"Yeah, why the heck not - how much is that?"

"Together that will be $9.89,- sir."

*Hands over a tenner* - "Keep the change..."

"Much obliged, sir..."

On logging on to IS I was just asked to fill out a survey. Once I identified myself as a contributor the only question was: "How could we serve you better?".

I gave them a few hints...
