I think the Velvet Blues Update URLs plugin did the trick. Painless and fast. Thanks again.

177
Thanks for pointing that out, guys. I'll give the Velvet Blues a try.

178
I'll write a blog post about the moving process very soon and will link to it from here.
I've received so much support, not even to mention a free stock selling platform, that I'm glad to give something back to the community or to whoever needs support. Just not tonight anymore. I need some rest.

Symbiostock - Technical Support / Re: Registration to purchase
« on: August 04, 2013, 19:01 »
We need a guest registration or a no registration option

I kind of disagree.
1. I don't think there is any website out there where somebody can purchase something without some kind of registration. And to be honest, the WP/SYS registration which requires only a user name and an email address (or a Facebook/Google+/Twitter) is pretty much the most comfortable registration ever.
2. If you don't have an account/registration the client will have no way to retrieve/check/re-download his purchase later again. I can already see people complaining about having paid good money and then having lost a file or an email link etc.

Symbiostock - Technical Support / Registration to purchase
« on: August 04, 2013, 18:22 »
Here's one issue I've noticed some time ago but it wasn't on top of my priorities.

When an unregistered visitor adds an image to the shopping cart and gets the message to log in or register for purchasing the image - the shopping cart will not save that image with the registration.

Let's say somebody surfs the website, likes an image and wants to purchase it. He puts it into the cart and then needs to register an account. After registration the image he wanted is not in the cart which means he needs to start over searching for it. He'll probably be annoyed and maybe angry to lose the results of his research.

Or am I the only one noticing this?

181
I'm done.

Oh boy - what a pleasure the new website/host is. Finally back to performance - working and surfing on the site is fun again. Happy camper here. And everything works, the SYS image uploader, ImageMagick, image processing and editing is a pleasure ... and did I mention that the website is burning rubber?  8)

@Cascoly & Ajt: I've set a 301 redirect from the "old" domain (picbreeze.com) that you guys are scanning to the new one picturebreeze.com. I'd appreciate if you could update the domain networking to PICTUREBREEZE.com - that's officially the new web.

Now it's time for a drink and a little celebration.

I'm just putting this here in case someone needs to transfer (copy) lots of files and folders. And also if I need to look it up later.  ;)

Quote
wget -r -l inf -np --ftp-user=user_name --ftp-password=password ftp://ftp.yoursourcedomain.com/public_html/subdirectoryifneeded/

Log into destination (new) SSH access (ssh [email protected]) on your new server (I used Terminal on Mac). Make the desired directory, change into that directory and type that command line in. Hit enter to have your files and folders copied from your old (source) web to your new web space without transferring them to your local machine.

I'm in the process of moving my Symbiostock site from one host to another. I've already exported/imported the MySQL database and then started copying all files and folders via FTP. The FTP process has been running for the last 36 hours. ...

I have a (stupid) question:

Why didn't you compress your entire web site into a zip (tar) on the old server instead of transferring all folders and files individually which will take so much longer?

And: You said you transfer the files via FTP from one site to another. Are you downloading the files via FTP to your computer and then FTP them back to the new server?

There are scripts online that can do site to site FTP transfers that will be handled through the backbone without you or your computer acting as a bottleneck. This way you can transfer gigabytes in minutes.

Certain webhosts have to support it though.

Just wanted to know if you tried it?

It's certainly no stupid question. It's actually probably the much better way to go.
I was searching for FXP transfer (from one server to another) but then had to learn that most servers don't support it these days. So I started a FTP transfer with two open server connections, copying from one server to another. But what this actually does is downloading from one and the uploading to the other. Very long process.

I remember that I've done SSH copy years ago which would have been a direct transfer between the servers. But at that time I had already started the FTP transfer. My bad.

Don't mind at all. Moving from Bluehost to All-inkl.com.

Did you also just recently sign up with Bluehost like many others and were disappointed with their service?

Have you been with All-inkl.com before? Why did you pick them?

I've been with Hostgator and I'm very satisfied with the speed of my shared hosting. I referred a friend to Bluehost because it was recommended here on the forums - didn't experience the much discussed outage recently but speed is not that great I must admit.

Yes, I signed up with Bluehost about 6 weeks ago. Had mostly trouble and ever recurring downtimes with them.

And yes I've been with all-inkl.com continuously over 12 years with several of my other websites. One of the best companies I ever had a professional relationship with.
Unfortunately the installation script of the Symbiostock theme did not run out of the box and they don't offer "unlimited" hosting which I thought might be useful with lots of images. But then again, I'm on a 100GB plan which should give plenty space for decades of stock shooting.
So now I'm getting all my websites together putting all eggs into one basket. Tired of gambling.

I'm in the process of moving my Symbiostock site from one host to another. I've already exported/imported the MySQL database and then started copying all files and folders via FTP. The FTP process has been running for the last 36 hours. It seems like I'm done with the big piece, the /symbiostock_rf/ folder.
However - now it's transmitting the /symbiostock_xml_cache/ folder while I hoped to be done by this time. I checked that folder and it contains tens of thousands files, most of them around 1KB large but some up to 30KB.
Now I'm wondering two things ...
1. Do I need to copy the content of that folder when I move to another host?
2. Regardless of the move, should we clean out that folder from time to time to keep our SYS website clean, lean and fast?

Any opinions?
I was hoping to get the move done today ...

My website is up but neither the Bluehost control panel nor the FTP server can be accessed so far.

Same here ... I really hope this situation is an exception ...

Unfortunately I had downtimes EVERY week since I signed up with them. Not as long and as sever but still not reliable at all. I think I'll drop BH as soon as I have set up an alternative location. It's hurting me personally.

You could ask to be switched to a different server. It seems like some people are sitting pretty, some have more bumps.

I know but I've lost faith in Bluehost. I don't want to gamble anymore. I have the feeling they don't take business as serious as I do and switching to a different BH server won't change that.

So I don't think that you can just copy over the MySQL database.

Why not? That's what I was hoping, importing the tables into the new MySQL and then changing the access information in the wp-config.php. Well, and of course copying all files and folders to the new host.

Did you run into any problems with the installation routine of WP and SYS at GoDaddy?

I copied my Wordpress site and used a plugin called WordPress Importer to install the exported file. I think you still need to copy over all the images and some other things. If you have a local host MAMP or LAMP, you can probably experiment.

Which file are you talking about, the MySQL database file?
And how exactly did you do the move? Did your move include only WP or SYS as well?

I've been with all-inkl.com (German company) for more than 12 years now (hosting my other websites) and they are the most reliable host one can imagine. Unfortunately I din't get the Symbiostock theme installed because all-inkl.com restricts php scripts from creating folders and files in the web root.
Other than that they really are amazingly reliable and fast.

I'll try to "move" the WP SYS site from BH to all-inkl.com via MySQL/FTP copy once the Bluehost control panel can be reached again. I'll keep you guys posted.

Thank you for reporting your experience, I was leaning heavily toward bluehost that and a little more digging has put me off.

Oh boy, I just took a look at godaddy and it seems to be no better than BH: http://www.whoishostingthis.com/hosting-reviews/go-daddy/

This is the simplest way to move from one host to another with the least amount of work.  I've done this many times and can help out with any questions or issues.

Thanks, Chris. I'm sure I'll take you up on that offer when I try to move it.

Its down again

Yes. I'm already getting the response from Google webmaster tools:

When we tested a sample of the URLs from your Sitemap, we found that some URLs were not accessible to Googlebot due to an HTTP status error. All accessible URLs will still be submitted.

Thanks, although I kind of disagree.

When you duplicate the entire database (all tables, all fields and values) - everything should work. Of course after altering the wp-config.php with the new DB name, user and password.
I mean MySQL is a standard, it should work wherever it is supported.

But again, I'm no expert at this.

I believe if you're looking for a cost effective way to promote your assignment photography business - Facebook is a must.

For stock photography work - I don't think so at all. Same applies to Pinterest btw.

I'm an amateur at SEO, but my understanding is that search engines don't like keywords.  They like sentences.  But I could be way off base.

I agree with you but I guess search engines like keywords more than no content.
What I'm saying is that in a perfect world every one of your web pages would have 300 words of highly relevant content without any distracting or diluting text.
The reality is that most people (me included) only have a short title and a few words of description as high relevant content on image pages. Then come a few titles, links (from widgets) and keywords as content with lower relevancy.
If we now take out the widgets and the keywords - all that's left is that little bit of title and description.
I kind of doubt that a page in that state would get better listed at SEs but I'm no expert at that either.
Except you put more relevant content into it which means you'd have to get creative as a writer to put a lot more text to every image page. Much more work. Not sure if I'd find the time to take pictures anymore.
