Hello, i wasn't happy that fotolia offer for 200$ not only hd enhanced but also 4k, which other sites offer in standard license for that price.
I think it should be updated to match other sites.
But Adode go even further they offer all videos in extended license, hd for 79 for enhanced license, when pond5 offer extended for 149 itself.

$200 for standard 4K is very outdated pricing, I guess all major agencies will reduce it within a year or so. It's certainly not ok when your camera costs 5-7 times more than a clip produced with it.

I agree. The cost of processors, hard drives and 4K cameras are falling all the time, but the price for 4K clips stays the same. Will 8K be $800 and 16K be $3200? By the same reasoning, should 240p footage be $2.50?

I appreciate that a 4K clip should cost more than a 1080p one, but it seems like some people think they should recoup the majority of their production costs from a handful of sales.

Better computer... say an extra $500 on top of the one you use for HD? How many clips are you going to edit and render on it.... 500? So add $2 to the price of HD. (I'm doubling the actual price to take into account 50% commission)

Extra storage costs... say 1Gb per clip, instead of 500Mb. 500 clips makes that an extra 250Gb. Cost of a 250Gb hard drive... less than $50. So add $0.20 per clip.

Editing time... pretty much the same. Shooting time... pretty much the same.

Rendering time... twice as long. But as you've bought your fancy new computer, lets say 50% more. Normal rendering time is probably two minutes depending on how many effects you've added. Probably less. So for 500 clips that makes an extra 500 minutes. What's your time worth? Let's say $50 an hour. That adds $13 to each clip... the biggest hike in price.

We'll be generous and add another $13 for transferring files. We'll be stingy when it comes to uploading files as you can be busy editing while that's happening.

So your HD stuff should cost you about $28.20 more than HD. So if your HD is $49 then your 4K should be around $79 and if your HD stuff is $79 already, then it should probably be $99 or so. Sure, you can add a bit of padding in, but $199 is maybe a bit of an excessive markup.

And that's saying you only sell each clip once. The moment you sell it twice, the $28 cost drops to $14, then to $9 and so on and so forth. Yes, there will be clips that won't even sell once, but that's your fault for making a s**t clip! Yes, it takes more work, and it costs more, and it has more value than HD.... but not four times more value.

I mean, come 2022 when you can pick up 4K TV's and video cameras for a steal, and the best computers today for about $500... it would feel a bit strange to be paying $199 for a 4K clip. That's just the way I see it anyway.

Price will gradually go down to attract other segments of buyers (like bloggers), but it is still way too soon now

Why would bloggers ever need 4k content?

I get a bunch od 240p sales from those customers lol

And as 4K should be 4 times the price of HD, 240p should be 20 times less than HD?

General Stock Discussion / Sales stopped at Videoblocks?
« on: February 14, 2017, 05:08 »
I appreciate that two weeks isn't enough time to indicate a worrying trend, I am just one contributor out of thousands, and variance can and does happen.... but I've had about ten sales a month at Videoblocks over the past four to six months or so, and I've not had a single sale yet this month.

Anyone else?

It's possible to reach  $ 1000 USD a year as a beginner like me?  Last Year i made $ 150 USD what do you suggest to me?

Make more stuff and make better stuff. There's a bit more to it than that, like where to upload, keywording, an efficient workflow for shooting and editing, but it pretty much boils down to that.

$1000 a month is achievable, but probably won't be easy.

Not yet. they've been slowly introducing author driven pricing for other marketplaces over the past year (3DOcean, GraphicRiver, Themeforest etc) but not for Videohive yat. They'll probably implement it at some point this year though, although I could be wrong.

Madison Square Gardens aside, those are some interesting keyword choices for the dog image. He goes for 'vertical' but leaves out 'portrait', the dog is clearly sat in front of some flowers, but the guy goes for 'plants' instead of 'flowers', uses 'mammal' but no mention of the breed, and no mention of 'park', 'garden' or 'grass' when the dog is clearly in either a park or a garden and is sat on the grass.

I would have thought that people would have searched for dog, park, grass, flowers if they wanted to find an image like this. I'm assuming the guy thinks they'll search for vertical, mammal, plant, madison square gardens.

Just an observation.

Received today. Late
You mean late today? as its actually three days early
I usually receive on 6-7. So for me 12 is late.

I think the point that is being made, is that they say they will pay out by the 15th, so as long as you get the payment on or before the 15th, then it's not late. Although it's definitely 'later than usual'.

The 4k isn't all that good, or low light, but HD in decent light looks good. I'd go for the linear mode unless you're shooting 'gopro style stuff'... i.e. surfboards, mountain bikes, skydiving etc. Otherwise it will look a but weird with the fish eye look.

Yeah, branded electronics are rarely as cheap as they would be in the US, no matter where you are. You might be able to have a night out for $10 in wherever, compared to $100 in New York/London... but that doesn't mean you can get a decent computer for $100 compared to $1000.

1762
I can live on what I'm making, but I make video. It helps that I'm in a cheap part of the world at the moment, but I could probably still live quite comfortably in most places... but not London, New York, LA, Paris etc.

Depends on how much work you put in, how good you are, and how much you need to live on. Even so, it's not exactly easy, but it is possible.

I could be wrong, but I don't think you can have a movie blu-ray in Mov format. You never know!

No, Blu-Ray movie disks are encoded in MPEG2 just like your camera. You can edit and render your file to Mov if you want... but when you author a Blu-Ray in your authoring software, it will burn it to disk as an MPEG.

I'm no expert, but as far as I know... you can add files to the Blu-Ray disk as a 'movie' or use it as a data disk. If It's a movie, then you stick it in your Blu-Ray player and it will start playing... and you'll probably also have the option to set up a menu and scene selection and all that jazz. Like when you buy a Blu-Ray of Star Wars down the shops. Or... you can use it as a data disk and store whatever you want on it... video files, images, documents, music etc.

From the sound of it, they want you to make a data disk that contains the footage as a Mov file. Blu-Ray doesn't use Mov, so it doesn't sound like they want you to make a playable movie disk. In theory, you could provide this on a DVD (or CD or floppy disk), if there was enough storage space on the disk.

The runes have failed me! But yeah, never say it's late until the 16th, otherwise you'll get the snarkiness all up in your grill!

I think the term 'later than usual' is allowed, and much more accurate, but you'll probably still get the snarkiness, as they'll be blinded by the red mist of 'Shutterstock payment date thread anger'.

And just to note... they've paid between the 5th and the 10th over the past year. The majority of those payment's were made between 12pm and 2pm EST. So if we've not got it yet, then between 12pm and 2pm on the 11th could be the next likely outcome. Maybe before, or later, you never know!

That would still be the latest payment I've received since signing up for Shutterstock. Just so you know!

But still... to satisfy the eternal rage of the 'it's not late until the 16th' cult members... please keep in mind that: it's not late until the 16th.

feel better now?

Not until I've got my late payment!

I just received my payment (PayPal; I'm in the US)

Praise the maker! May the Shutterstock payment dates be ever in our favor. Not got it here yet... I'm sure they're working on it.

It is just me or first post + their website is a bunch of slogans, cheap marketing frases and zero concretes?
what? What are you doing? Really? Please be more transparent with your services! *.

I decided to actually check out the site based on your post, and couldn't agree more! The video itself is such a cliche... designed to stir emotion, identify some need I never knew I had, and make me think how wonderful I am, how wonderful this company is, and how I desperately need their service... without hardly telling me anything about what that service actually is!

The script writer should be rewarded, as it's the kind of fluffy, empowering nonsense that a lot of people actually buy into (did they used to work for the Apple marketing department?)... but as it (I'm assuming) relates to our business and our bottom line, we need a bit more to go on!

In my experience, you can't go wrong with a Velbon DV7000. Usually 100 new, but if you look around on Ebay/Amazon you can pick them up for about 75. Maybe 50 for second hand if you're lucky.

Sturdy, pretty well made, smooth head... probably the best you can get before you start paying the more expensive prices.

I've consulted the runes and I believe that payment will be received in three hours and twenty minutes.

On a side note, but still kind of related... would be nice if they could add VideoBlocks to the Microstock Poll result... see where it's at in the list. Although it might not be in the top tier, I'd be surprised if it wasn't somewhere in the middle tier, so I think it deserves a place in the poll. Although... maybe it's being left out as it's video only?
Yes, I believe that video only agencies don't get much attention here.
99% of people here are in still images, not a lot of footage people

Everyone knows all the cool kids are doing video! ;)
