Ok, I got the math. I am barely getting 50% and absolutely no chance of going up. I will be pulling my portfolio if I have the slightest decrease below 50%, I'm dead serious. 123RF are clearly overestimating their importance in our eyes. It won't make a significant dent in my monthly income and I'm sure it's the same situation for most of the contributors.

Okay, just did the math.  Based on 2011 numbers, I am in the 50% category, but the low end.  No chance of getting higher up, but a real chance of slipping down.  Just like Istock, I am hanging on to the rate I have earned, but just barely, and for how long?

Paulie, I definitely get what you are saying, but do you really think Istock exclusivity offers any better protection?

Lisa, how did you do the math? I'm having trouble adding up credits and stuff, which one is how much and everything. Also, how do the subs count, 1 credit each?

I just love how 123rf is completely unable to fix their website, but is keen to sack us while feeding us the same istock rubbish "lets work harder". Unbelievable.

I'm having a reasonable mix of subs and ppd, also my subs are priced higher  ;D

Nikon / Re: Nikon D800 36MP coming?

Too bad Nikon uses a proprietary raw format. This means D800E purchasers will have to wait for Adobe to reverse engineer the format and release a support update.

And about Canon and nikon.  I've done a lot of workshops and one on One classes, I always found it quite strange that 99% of women used Canon and the same for men and Nikon. Doesn't matter to me at all , Both great cameras Just an Observation...LOL

I'm pretty sure Lightroom 4 which will come soon will support the new d800. They'll also release a new Camera Raw update, obviously.

Nikon and Canon - both make great cameras and I'm shooting part time also a d700 beside my 5D2, especially for sport or fast moving subjects. Their competition is always good for us. The main gripe I have with Nikon is their lenses - far below Canon's offer.

It's in fact a Nikon-developed sensor, not Sony. You'd better get your facts right before writing.

Sorry where do you see that it is made by Nikon?  All I found says that it was made by Sony.

Read the paragraph "Sensor".

LE: if I'm correct, it's their first developed sensor, for a dslr.

I think they're aware of the enormous pixel density on the d800, that's why they served "workarounds". D800 images are most likely to be soft, lacking definition, so if you want something sharp, you'll get the D800E. But then you'll probably have moire issues so they'll provide you with Capture NX with moire removal option. This kind of "fixes" sound an alarm to me. Anyways, I'm quite eager for the reviews and real life image samples.

D800 is using the new 36MP sony sensor.

Canon has nothing of that class, the MK3 will barely be 24MP i think.

It's in fact a Nikon-developed sensor, not Sony. You'd better get your facts right before writing. Also, the Canon will be around 22 MP according to rumors.
Nevertheless, I am rather dissappointed with D800 sample images. Noise in all of them and around iso 360 the noise is worse than APSC level (look at the yellow flowers landscape, around the water). Also, the images are sharpened in post-processing, you can clearly see that. 36 MP is way overkill for FF and the D800 is nowhere near MF quality, as some claimed.
I believe that if Canon release a fast focusing, fast fps 22 MP 5d3, it'll be a winner.
D800 for what? Even for landscapes, you'll need to downsize or denoise a lot of your images.
Users with D700 will be frustrated for the drop in fps from 8 to 4, I have a few nikonists friends who are looking forward for Canon announcement.

Canonrumors is now saying there could be a Canon with around 40MP but it won't be the 5DMIII.

Yes, I read that too. I surely hope the rumor is wrong, I see absolutely no way to get better quality than 5D2 from a 40 MP full frame.

XXXL square compositions will be possible now with a little room to spare.

Very good point!

Anyone in the market for a used 5D II??? ;)  (just kidding... sort of)

Anyone willing to go through all the hassle selling the current Canon gear? If I wasn't that lazy I'd probably do it. Sort of...

Canon / Re: Canon 5D Mark III 3 - Rumor Page :)
« on: February 03, 2012, 08:57 »
5DX might be aimed at studio shooters who would also like performance for outdoor photography. If the specs are right, then I believe it's a smart move from Canon. Better focusing system is all I wanted on my 5d2. It sounds like a reasonable update. On the other hand, I fail to see how Nikon will get clean images from a 36 MP full frame sensor. I suspect you won't be able to "crop to xxxl" from a noisy / soft image, but rather downsize and there goes your MP advantage...

I think if Sony can get near full frame quality from a 24MP crop sensor it shouldn't be too hard to get excellent quality from a 36MP full frame sensor.

And I'm not sure why everyone complains about the 5DMII's focusing. I've used if for everything including fast moving objects and it works fine. So just to have 61pts is worth spending $2,700? Not for me. If these specs are right I'll be taking the money I have set aside for the new 5D and picking up an NEX-7.

I don't see NEX-7 image quality nowhere near full frame. But it's great for APS-C sensors. Check the noise on raw images, dpreview has them and compare to 60D for example. Sony did a great job with their jpeg engine and noise reduction algorithms but it's not enough, images get smudged after iso 400.
Without taking into account other aspects, such as very thin DOF that you can get on FF, your 14mm lens is a real 14mm, etc. - so I don't see how you'd want the NEX-7 over any FF.

Alex,

Thank you for thanking me for my honest feedback.

There's nothing new in your answer to the point one. We already know why you introduced captcha and we already know your team is endlessly analyzing a better beta that will probably help.
For the point 2, it's very simple: make a paginated list of downloads sorted by date, with thumbnail, net amount, date/time for every sale. Also, a total monthly amount at the bottom of the table. See? in a few words I filled you up with ideas.
For the point 3 - put somewhere a flag to determine (at user's choice) if the user is a contributor or a buyer. Then move all the necessary tools for artists in a well designed page so that we're able to provide you with content more easily.

123RF / Poor website design and functionality NEEDS amended!
« on: January 17, 2012, 18:03 »
Alex,

When will we see the promised changes on the earnings page? Let me lay down a few things that appears to slip to your "pro" developer team as you named it in the other thread:

- 123RF is the ONLY agency where captcha is required to see the earnings - you promised this to change some very long time ago, nothing happened. Why?
- 123RF has the worse possible display of daily downloads, you need a lot of clicks for something that's trivial for the other agencies
- 123RF has the worse functionality among all the other agencies. Why do I need to go for "More" link on the bottom of the page to go then to Releases and make some extra steps to complete my uploads?
- why is the email icon blinking erratically when there is no sitemail in my inbox? Also, why don't you notify me when I get a message?
- last but not least: why do you ignore some of the questions regarding 123RF site functionality?

I am sure others could come up with some more requests or comments. Of course, not too many, since 123RF is one of the lowest earning agencies and a lot of contributors simply don't care and check once per week their stats. But this is not an excuse to leave the website as it unfortunately is right now.

9000 images portfolio here, 4 digits monthly income from SS. Sales are about average, not slow, not terribly high either. If anything, the EL rush of the last months seems to be over for me.

A medical theme photo on SS or a lifestyle couple photo on DT, one of these 2. Half an hour after that SS boomed with lots of sales so it was luck to catch the first one. It was a great day of sales everywhere except IS.

Alamy.com / Re: Editorial images
« on: December 29, 2011, 19:09 »
I think the OP was referring to the editorial images as in "have no model or property release". In this case, Alamy automatically chooses for you RM license and you can't modify it. Probably this will change over time, and it will look like microstock's "editorial".
For the RM vs RF, BaldricksTrousers is right. However, I never put images as RM in one place and RF in other.

No subs here but some ELs since they started it, and credit sales. The usual amount, barely making monthly payout.

123RF / Re: Broken uploads.
« on: December 20, 2011, 03:28 »
Same problem here, however I won't upload the batch again.

223
I only send them a batch every few months or so, and then I get pissed off with their "too similar" bull$hit and I take some other few months break. My approval rate was 90-something, now it's below 80 and I firmly believe that DT is not worth the time to try-and-guess what might be rejected for similarity and to make selections out of the uploads sent everywhere else. Not to speak of obvious signs of favoritism which is sick inducing.
I think they're somehow on a constant line regarding sales and any ideas of how to push the agency forward and make more money eludes them.

Look at his profile page and you will see the list of people that consider him a favorite photographer.
Achilles name is on that list. If his pictures made lots of money at my site, he would be my favorite also.

Yes, 30 sales. Lots of money.
