What's the discount for something that never really had an established value to begin with?

Whatever the different segments of the market will bear.

I wish that was happening.

StockFresh / Re: Stockfresh cancelled account

Look, I know I'm nothing special, but don't we actually want stock sites to kick all the other contributors out besides us? I know it's not fair, and it could be me next... but, I can't help but think that this is really the only way to preserve incomes for artists. You just can't divide a pie a million ways. That said, I'm sorry for what happened to you. It's never a good thing or a pleasant feeling.

Hard to say. There was a time when doing this strategy or doing that strategy made sense. Now, it is probably more about survival. How long will this last or will something better come along? I'm not sure how other people are feeling, but I definitely feel the whole party winding down.

Looks like you've got yourself some unprintable RGB colors. I usually try to avoid those.

Is time travel possible because I'd suggest that?

It kind of looks like the uploads are leveling off at Fotolia and iStock.

Bigstock.com / Re: Bigstock EPS size minimum problem

Yeah, I assume it's the program. I just saved a blank document as an Illustrator 8 eps and it was over 1 MB. Completed files aren't much larger though, so I guess most of it is default data within Illustrator.

so, if my son starts to make photos - he cant open account on same pc -  ip address as mine - is it correct?

I would assume it is just the same email and name.

Your only recourse now is to challenge them to single combat... or maybe just write them a nice email explaining the mistake like everybody else said. If you choose single combat though, I want a follow up post. :D

GLStock / Re: Sales Plummet on GL since takeover
« on: June 07, 2017, 20:15 »
While constantly keeping our contributors in mind, we are committed to compensating them fairly.  We gave flexibility of pricing and have honored one of the highest commissions in the industry.  It is very challenging to make both contributors and sellers simultaneously happy, and I think that is very evident when reading through the tens of thousands of negative posts about the top tier agencies, where most contributors generate the majority of their revenue.  Most agencies are buyer-centric, and apparently the contributors here in MSG do not seem to believe they are fairly compensated for their work, despite those being their highest revenue sources.

I appreciate it. I'll continue to upload while the new site gets built.

How much longer do we have to wait?  I don't understand that if the previous owners were bad at marketing, they seemed to be selling more for most of us?  I wish you well but have very low expectations now, hope you prove me wrong.

In defense, the internet seems to have become a lot more rough the last few years or so for the little guys.

It's been about the same. I like the pricing model better though, so they have my support.

I suppose in theory if they are changing their algorithms and how they manage their massive catalog, it could make things better again. Like others though, every time one of these companies gets excited about "improvements" it seems like we lose.

215
It took a couple days, but my images did eventually generate.

216
Yeah, it seems to take a while to generate thumbnails.

Disagree. If you ask what their budget is beforehand if it's too low you can tell them it's not within your range and see if you can work something out. So what about if you tell them your X-Y first, say $2,000-3,000 and their budget is actually $50,000? They're most likely not going to tell you the actual budget now that you've given them a cheap quote. If you knew their budget upfront that may have allowed you to offer them more or better options for more than your initial X-Y.

Not sure a bakery is a good comparison to a custom photo shoot unless you offer prearranged packages. Then I could see starting with A/B/C package range to see how they react.

I mostly do the same types of projects, so I don't feel comfortable charging one person this or one person that. It's pretty much the same for everybody regardless of budget.

218
That's too many questions for me. I'd do it like this:

Buyer: Here's what I need. Can I get a quote?
Me: sure, the price is X (or between X and Y).

Then the buyer either accepts the quote or I never hear from him again.

That's pretty much it. Sometimes I chuckle when I'm writing a big quote because I'm thinking I'll never hear from them again. People surprise you though, so you never really know.

219
I suppose you can't refund a subscription download though.

220
Good luck recovering that money. The agencies love it because they get to keep it ALL!

Out of curiosity, how do they handle these things? Shouldn't they technically refund the purchases, since they are invalid licenses?

General Stock Discussion / Re: about fonts using!
« on: May 19, 2017, 11:57 »
I like to make my own fonts or hand drawn text to avoid any changing or future conflicts. You can never really go wrong if you created it.

Nice read. It's definitely been a crazy ride for 10 years. In a way, it feels like it has come to an end, but it seems like it will keep going for a while too.

Welcome to the world of illustration. File conversion can be a fickle beast. There probably isn't one best method, so experimenting to get the results you want is probably the best bet. I don't have many issues with Photoshop, so you may try to experiment some more with that. Different color spaces (especially from different countries) can cause a lot of issues though.

I haven't uploaded in a while, so I'm not sure what I'd say. Do they still have the large batch errors for vector uploads? It seemed like you couldn't upload more than 20 images at once unless you wanted untangle a mess. Not sure if that is still the case though.
