So... do we get X% of whatever they win?

123RF / Re: Is this why our ranks were lowered?

It looks like an improvement and a setback at the same time. They eliminated the 1 and 3 price credits and moved them up to 2 and 4 where other sizes were. My top XXL or EPS was 10, so I guess there are no more "big" sales. I guess it is what it is. Considering the site is mostly small sales, it seems like a net increase, but it is hard to tell because EPS sales always throw a bump into revenue everywhere. That's probably not the case for photographers though... pshh, always dragging us illustrators down.

New Sites - General / Re: FiveDollarPhotos.com
« on: March 07, 2018, 23:47 »
You lost me at five dollars. My advise would be to figure out how to make money marketing a small group of contributors, then move on from there. Right now, we are all being under-represented. A couple five dollar sales isn't going to change that for anybody.

Does the answer of do something else work? It's kind of difficult to avoid what is happening in microstock. You kind of have to either find something else or ride it out to wherever it goes.

131
Is this separate from the regular Creative Market or are they going to move things over? I'll have to do some deleting if they are moving regular products over to it.

132
So, I guess Getty was serious about what they said. Not as good as it used to be though.

Wait and see. Here's the first thread here about the same. http://www.microstockgroup.com/general-stock-discussion/getty-images-partners-google-for-multi-year-global-licensing-partnership/

It's the "global strategic partnership" part that worries me.

When an agency does not give complete details about a change it usually means we're screwed.

Me too

Honestly, I think the things that Google does are way more important than what these stock art companies do.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Why eps
« on: February 10, 2018, 21:27 »
My guess is to limit the things that get uploaded and ease the review process. .pdf can contain all sorts of different (and even interactive) elements. Whereas .eps basically ensures that it's a proper vector file.

You can place raster elements, fonts, etc. in an eps as well. I assume most of it is just old school design. Back in the QuarkXpress days, you really dealt with two main file formats TIFF and EPS.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Why eps
« on: February 10, 2018, 00:17 »
It's really an old requirement that hasn't been fixed. There's really no real reason anymore, although the old no frills eps 8 files still work pretty well.

136
So, did anything change on Google Images? There were a lot of complaints from Stock Art sites when they went to their current non-click through look.

Good news how? Give contributors a commission cut (again) without prior notice and then make them wait 2 months before making a full announcement?

I guess there are lots of things that could be good news. I'm not holding my breath though.

I feel like micostock is coming to an end sadly - the returns get smaller and smaller each year.

Soon we will be getting 10 cents an image ... I'm not even surprised anymore at the way these agencies are treating us. I went numb last year sometime.

I'm hoping something better will be born out of the ashes. I thought some companies would be working on something new (more sustainable and better paying), but it doesn't seem to be happening. I'd assume that all these companies are still doing well, so they don't feel any pressure to be better.

No because I was 6 and am now 4. We shouldn't have to play guessing games. Where is the page with the new structure. It's ridiculous.

It doesn't really look like much of a guessing game. Like somebody said above, they got rid of two levels (35% and 45%). People in those 2 levels lost out because they got moved to 30% and 40% levels. 50% and above levels though appear to be unchanged except they changed the level number from 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 & 10 to 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 & 8.

No I don't think so I was at level 2 and now at level 1 earning $0.216 per sub instead of the $0.25 per sub.

These people are disgusting.

No more uploads from me

If you moved from 2 to 1, then you probably have a better idea of the cutoff between them. I kind of gave an educated guess on the level numbers.

I assume it is this now from what people are saying.

0 1,999 Level 1
30%
$0.216

2,000 4,999 Level 2
40%
$0.288

Well, I'm at 1400 and level 2.

I wasn't sure about how big level 1 was. Maybe, they just left it 0-250, so level 2 being more 251-4,999.

123RF / Re: Contributor level drop
« on: February 02, 2018, 11:46 »
They merged some levels so some people will get a drop and some won't . Here's the old level structure - https://blog.123rf.com/2-6-royalties-commissions-payment/ . The new one has already been posted here although the credit targets are missing . The way they are handling this is totally unacceptable . I won't be uploading there anytime soon .

Yeah, they aren't even showing the targets. It definitely looks like another money grab. Just squeeze a little bit out of all the contributors.

Selling Stock Direct / Re: KTools and CMS Stand-alone script
« on: January 19, 2018, 12:21 »
I'd say pick the one with the best support or that is upgradeable. My old K-Tools store died because they stopped supporting their old version and there was no way to upgrade to the new version. Most of these solutions seem to have a half life before their creators abandon them for a new version or project and you're stuck trying to plug the leaks.

Crestock is still in business? How is that possible?

So long and thanks for all the fish.

General - Top Sites / Re: Age Old Question
« on: November 29, 2017, 23:48 »
If you don't have exclusive content, and you won't be trying to undercut the established agencies on price, then your whole pitch to a buyer is to appeal to supporting artists directly? Some will go for that, probably the smaller businesses where the creative makes the sourcing decisions.

Yeah, it is always nice when a client wants to buy direct or where I make the most, but you really need exclusive content or semi-exclusive content to even get them in the door. It's not like you can compete with the advertising budgets of the big boys. And, there is no point to competing on price. Nobody or very few will ever show up to an indie site for discounts (unless it is free).
