Anyone know how to find out why a picture was rejected?  I see them in the rejected queue but dont see a reason anywhere?

I think we should add PTOTW epic fail...
In the forums they ask to brainstorm along about a new way of doing it; the massive consensus is 'leave it as it is; istock controls too much already as it is", the opinions didnt matter, they're going to do how they feel it should be done anyways.

Whee! 6 cards in the post today! I suspect it's the Belgian post that's a bit rough, they all are a bit scratched (even the plastic on Ann's, Pete's survived best) but i notice a pattern... for every card it happened on the same line; must be the sorting machine or something. It's not too bad though and adds to the postcard charm :)
The cards were from Leaf, cclapper, mellimage, racephoto, ann and elvinstar. Great pictures guys and gals, a blast receiving the cards!
Mine were supposed to go out today, they're written but i didnt get to the postoffice... tomorrow :)
(i'm a lefty so sorry for the messy wiped out inkstains...it really became a bit of a smudge :/)

Oh, that is lame.

I agree it's a bit cheap, but on the other hand, as soon as they announced they'd offer a legal guarantee istock couldnt be fast enough to do the same; that considered i can see where its coming from...

Ahaa, here they just save money by forcing up ridiculous schedules for the mail deliverers and by closing one post office after the other forcing us to go a few kilometers extra when we need postal services... but even then mail in the weekends seems 'unsustainable' ;)

Veer / Re: veer a wasted effort for new contributors?
« on: February 12, 2011, 18:34 »
We clearly had different experiences so lets agree to disagree :)
Veer has always been very correct with me, in their acceptances, swift helpdesk communications and good communication here, in their payments etc etc..
Maybe i just got lucky but i was payed when they promised they'd pay... didnt have to wait the extra month (but you're right, i know others did) and also didnt have to go through the transfer from another site so maybe that saved me a lot of trouble too.
If now they just could provide that opt-out for the partner program, i'd hate having to let them go because of it.

*snip* They ran out of money for hte dash for cash program halfway through and just started rejecting about half the stuff, If you got in in the beginning 90% was getting accepted if you got in after they ran out of money you got about 50% or more rejection, I spent so many hours getting stuff ready for veer only to have most of that time be wasted, people have since been uploading the rejected dash for cash files only to have them all accepted. I really felt scammed, they knew they could get those images for free after the promotion as most people just re-uploaded them.
With all respect, i dont believe thats true.
Apart from 2 exceptions i didnt have anything rejected with the DFC program, and mine were all inspected pretty late in the game...reading the threads about it back then the majority of submitters seemed pretty satisfied with the acception rate. They also payed prompt and correct as promised.

Veer / Re: Veer Reseller API
« on: February 11, 2011, 20:07 »
Well, thats disappointing. So far i've ditched all sites that didnt let me opt-out of partner programs :(
For me its about wanting complete control over my pictures and where and how and under what terms they are sold.
The royalties might be the same as with Veer, but what are they charging in the first place? Who says, eventhough the royalties are the same our cut isnt smaller? And does this partner site have other partners? Wouldnt be the first time a partner migrates our pictures to yet another one of THEIR partners leaving us clueless about where our pictures end up etc.
I do understand the potential of partner programs and how it allows Veer (and thus us  as contributors) to tap different market segments, but i'm really fed up with partner programs, untransparency and the shennanigans they bring along.
An opt-out...please?

Been there since summer of 2010, I guess June or July, around 500 online images, no sales yet, very few views (20 max). Starting to lose patience...
Are you serious? This is a site that is only in phase 1: starting to slowly surely build a decent database. No marketing whatsoever has happened, no efforts to draw in customers yet. I suspect it'll take a whooole while before we start to see decent views and sales. Losing patience already seems a bit premature.

214
Indeed, seconding cclapper's question...
Not being able to opt-out is really a dealbreaker for me, full file migration hasnt started yet (i assume because my pictures arent there); could you give us the info BEFORE we'll find our pictures there?

I wouldnt doubt more than 2 seconds... call them!!!
If you feel its legit after the call, more $$$'s for you, less for the rip-offs at istock!

216
My images arent there (and better dont either). I'm with Veer but not with 123RF...

It has to do with the sidepanel on the left that thanks to istocks excellent tech team now leads its own life and appears and disappears at will, one moment its there, the next its gone!

You still can upload through this link i think (think because i havent signed the new user agreement and it takes you there first):

Received my first card today! I think it comes from Opla, dankjewel jongeman :D I could read it without magnifying glass (barely ;)). Cool to have the story behind the pic!
It got a bit scratched in the mail, but that makes actually a cool effect! There's glowing ufo's in the card now too where the emulsion got scratched!

Mine still havent been sent, zazzle told me they were shipped so shouldnt take too long.

They didnt love dogs... i'm one of the very few ones (it seems) that was not affected.
I was wondering whether to feel insulted or lucky, but firmly choose for the latter. I really feel for those who were affected, its crap.. and since yesterday double crap  :(

Ouch, Canadian you say; we'll have to keep an eye on you! ;)

Nice to meet you here Chelsey! As contributors it really makes such a difference when our voice is heard and listened to, a little bit of communication goes a long way and Veer has been an example, much appreciated!
Sounds like you have the perfect background to follow Brian up so you wont need a 'good luck', hope you'll enjoy it!
(but still... a canaaaadian?! :P)

oww, always google for coupons for sites that use them!!... amazon, smugmug, zazzle, etc.

223
Yeah, zazzle brazil comes down to about $1,28/card :(
Why not order from the U.S zazzle either? you can google a 30% off on cards coupon right now (and use your zazzle earnings to pay if you want to)

224
Got the new list too and ordered the postcards.
Geez, the european zazzle asks 1/card, the american zazzle less than $0,83 + i googled a discount coupon which also only works on the american site so in the end the price in dollars was less than half compared to the euros for the exact same product. :o

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Buyers Bailing on Istock
« on: January 29, 2011, 18:15 »
Microstock was invented so that most companies, except for ad agencies, could afford stock photos. Getty decides to turn IS into a mid- to trad agency, once again charging higher prices. Of course most of the buyers are going to leave! They didn't have the money in their budgets 6 years ago, they sure as heck don't have more money in their budgets today. I am all for photographers making more money, but the microstock model is still that...a microstock model.
I think istock calculated in that some of the buyers will leave. But just like they don't care about the smaller (non-vetta) shooters (and maybe even WANT them to leave) they probably dont care about the small buyers either. As long as the big budget vetta-, agency- and big corporate buyers stay they dont seem to give a ****.
