this is quickly turning into the most useful thread ever.  :)

gotta try the 8 minute laundry tip (I do wonder what happens if you leave them in for 9 minutes?)

by the way.. I also use "Downy Wrinkle Releaser" which works amazing well for quick touch-ups when you don't have time to iron.

While I don't wish bad things on anyone and I certainly wish Kelly and Rebecca the best in their new roles, I can't help but get depressed when I see the graphic at the top of his announcement post.  I, too, started in 2004.  And it feels like I am still wiping off the footprints and healing from the bruises from being stepped on last September.  At this point I feel like my contribution to iStock was more as a step-stool than as an artist.

maybe I'm just having a negative day.

on the positive side, being independent has begun to open my eyes to the many other possibilities out there.

I'm sorry, but I can't say to anyone:" Please, buy at an agency where I get maybe 16% of the price!"
There are agencies with much better conditions.
Better for me and better for the buyer.

This sums up my feelings exactly.

My feelings, too.

me three.. or, er, four... I think. anyhow, I totally agree.

RT

I find your comments and those of the other posters above very offensive. This subject is of interest for many people, especially the istock exclusives.

If you personally dislike Shank than please take your sandbox fight elsewhere. Or just ignore him, problem solved.

I really don't need you to police a thread I am interested in.

Please stay out of threads if the subject doesn' interest you.

just use that ignore button.  ;)

There are also disaffected people like me - I'm not banned, but have chosen to stop any sort of community involvement in response to Getty's choices about how they treat contributors.

When you treat people like dirt, it's not surprising when they stop hanging out

this is my position as well.

it was helpful to me when I was working with minilypse planning and then occasionally to get in quick contact with some of the (real life) friends I have there at iStock.  Although yesterday I got a mass spam email from someone with 1000+ people in their network trying to pimp their portfolio.  I simply deleted the email then removed the person from my "creative network" (CN - as it used to be called) or "Friends" list .

You make a good point that it's all about the bottom line. It wasn't always thus.

JJRD's comment:

"with bortonia coming to Milan, we never stated that the vector angle of the iStockalypse would be contributor centric."

This is my attempt at translation:

In other words, "Just because bortonia will be in Milan, doesn't mean that there will be much focus on vector contributors, because vector attendees won't be producing any work we can license."

Or something like that.

that is how I interpret it.

Payoneer / Re: Payoneer payment did not happen
« on: July 13, 2011, 14:00 »
i'm really surprised that not many people complaining about payoneer payment delays. right now i can't tell you how angry i am, i normally request payoneer payment every week but from 22/june each every of my requests has been delayed and it takes 3 days for IS to reply  support tickets with no explainations. what's hell happening?! IS sucks!

Three plus weeks later - 4 separate emails to support - and not a peep out of them - not a courtesy response to a single email to support - the silence is deafening and beyond rude - I have gone from indifference to istock to blind hatred of the site - I am trying to calm down, am holding my tongue and pointedly not writing another email while I am so angry but words right now cannot describe the loathing I feel at the minute for everything and anybody istock ... the way they treat people is mind boggling

So how's that for a complaint?

that's terrible!  have you tried phoning them?

no problem here, using PayPal.

Thinkstock the internets premier subs site?  That would be about as good for us as Sarah Palin becoming the next president :)

don't even say that!  you're scaring the children!

BTW PP program is pathetic, I've opted all in and there are only about a third on the PP sites, none have moved in months. Earnings are down as well, so I'm thinking of opting all out, but it won't work anyway, so why even bother...
You have to be a little bit more patient.Files do get migrated and Thinkstock will become the internets premier subsription site in the coming years IMO.
I joined the PP from the start when my nose was still the same color as my arse  ;)

hahahahahaha!! funniest thing I've heard in awhile!!

And they got delayed...

In my opinion waiting a few extra days isn't so big a deal...

First, it isn't just a few extra days - for some the money has been owing for a while now. I doubt the "what's a few extra days?" line of reasoning would go over well with a credit card company or a bank if you owed them money by a certain due date.

The other issue is that this is a self-imposed deadline - and they still blew it. When you take that with a procession of missed deadlines and broken software, it's just breathtaking that as an organization they can't set and meet expectations. Every company screws up now and then. It's about how you deal with that and what you learn (or don't) from it that really counts.

exactly.

oh.. and did you see on the IS forums they are stirring up another F5 moment.   what will they screw up next?  oh.. maybe/probably it's just another 'lypse event.

yes I did.  I don't buy there anymore so I just selected the "I'm coming here to be a contributor" choice or something like that.  :)

FYI.My Vetta collection just increased by 50%....  ;D

If i had two and then get a another accepted it will increase my Vetta collection by 50%.
I will gladly lend anyone nowt  :P

ah yes, that's great!

and might I add that it's nice having you around here, Shank, to bring a little life into the group.

« on: June 24, 2011, 14:54 »
I think this is a good example of why contributors have now been excluded from any decision making process.

I'm pretty sure even the most novice of buyers can figure out what it does.

Sure, most everyone can figure out what it does after doinking around for awhile. But I'm pretty sure contributors would have listed the collections by name, with a check box in front. If I, as a buyer, wanted to search non-exclusive only, I check that box. Voila! If I work for a high end agency and I only want to see Vetta and Agency, I check those two boxes and voila!

I think we all know why dots are being used.

actually, I think by price is better than by collection.  I think all buyers understand price, but not many understand collections.  So to that I think it is a good thing.

The new pricing filter will be sent out to the buyers and i'm always a little surprised that so many buyers do not post a comment in the istock forums.
It would be refreshing change  to read some postative feedback from the people who actually spend there  money at Istock rather than some disgruntled contributor claiming there sales have dryed up for whatever reason....

I think most buyers are there to buy and get on with their work.  Not to socialize like us contributors :)

I totally didn't realize that the bottom slider could move up.  i wonder how many buyers will miss that?

I must be an odd bird.  I found the bottom slider and was moving it up, but didn't realize there was a top slider that moved down... Is it a left brain right brain thing?  ;)

then call me an odd bird, too.  I did the exact same thing!

I totally didn't realize that the bottom slider could move up.  i wonder how many buyers will miss that?

I missed it at first too. Again, why not just list collections with a check box so a buyer can just search different collections? Doesn't that sound easy? Why does everything added to their site require a big long list of instructions on how to use.  ::)

it's really not that difficult.  ;)

that is true but it's not that intuitive.   I'm sure buyers will figure it out, but would have been nice if they would have just followed the KISS policy.  (Keep It Simple Stupid)

Its long overdue, thats for sure. Im still a bit sceptical, we have all these things, sliders, rolle-down lists and now pricing, etc.

Personally speaking I think the whole thing, the entire best match, alogarithm, everything needs revamping, start all over, fresh. Yes a brand new search-engine where the main criteria for the buyers benefit should be, speed, relevance and quality ( showing half a page with files thats been there for months and with zero or a few dls only, does not proof quality nor speed, Vettas, agency, P+, E+, or whatever is irrelevant)

Ogilvys, famous shoe-shop example: dont flaunt last years models in the shop-window! they are already second-hand.

I also think the inspection for Vetta/agency files should be a lot more strignent especially since they are going to be right up front (irrespective of pricing sliders).
Lots of photographers have just nominated their own favorites and the inspectors have turned a blind eye, consequently we have a whole heap of just generic stuff and on premiere pages.

I sincerely hope this pricing-slider will fill a function but my fears are it wont be used or its yet another technicality for buyers.

wait, what?  I didn't see any vetta/agency staying on the top page when I searched at the lower price ranges.  did i miss a post somewhere?  (I tend to skim, so maybe I read over/past something?)

thanks JoAnne -- I haven't joined canstock maybe I'll look into that.  I guess I will consider the JPG option, too.  I forgot about that - I can upload them as JPGs only without giving away the vector at rock bottom prices.  and I guess I would only be at 25% as well if I went exclusive vector at iStock - maybe 30% by the end of the year if I was lucky.

that gives me some more things to think about.  thanks again.
