So a two tier system.
Too bad, would have been interesting to have that option as well, could have been a really useful tool.
And if the membership content gets preferred search placement, well be out of luck.
Back to uploading and daily life, it is good we have several agencies.
Eta: just read on the forums that membership content will not get preferred placement. So they thought about that, which is good.
And who said that and on which forum? Do you really believe they will say the truth and anger contributors? Why would P5 introduce something hoping it won't work?

They emailed me saying that 850 of my clips had been selected for the new membership program. Guaranteeing me $425 a month.
I just logged into my admin and as far as I can see there is no way of telling which clips they selected.
I'm guessing they selected my best 4K/HD clips. If so, I need to remove them from the new program.
My admin just looks like the old one with a new CSS. Anyone know where the 'Membership Out' button is?
Is this called "artist friendly" ?

Well on pond5 someone posted they took all his non selling clips and he is thrilled they will now make him money. He has thousands of files, so this might really work well for him.
It will also be interesting to see if the additional traffic through membership downloads increases overall sales of the files that are not part of membership, i.e. if your best files from a series are only available for normal downloads, but a customer "discovers" you through membership, will they buy the other files as well?
It is something new, will be interesting to see how it works out.
I do hope they put me in control and allow me to decide what to offer. Or to suggest for their editors, maybe they dont want to pay for all the sunsets of the world...
I doubt it. Bargain hunters are only and always just bargain hunters! This actually might totally kill top sellers, imho. You remember public domain free files they've launched last January. It was momentum of great site traffic, good sales, that didn't last forever. Why? Because they didn't have sales team in place to build from there.

Yet again... still no sales team to do sales. How this membership is going to take off without some serious pushing to happen.

As long as the subs collection doesn't get too big and stays relatively low quality, I'm not too concerned. Don't blame Pond5, blame Videoblocks for coming up with this model and all the people here that fell for their 100% when it was obvious that they were likely to make other sites do this if they attracted enough buyers.
From buyers point of view, why would they opt for low quality and pay for membership well in advance. I simply doubt that will happen.

« on: February 25, 2016, 11:55 »
They contacted me and asked if I wanted to participate. However, they could not give specific prices etc.
You have no say in the clip selection. They choose everything.
Every distributor has subs in one form or another some hide the fact others show it openly. Pond five has always treated artists fairly so I agreed.
I am disappointed that there is no difference between 4K and HD and I'd like to remove some of my best 4K clips from the program.
At the moment I see nothing in the interface that turns a clip off. Perhaps it will come in the next few days.

In the real world everyone goes to the large hardware stores because they know there will be a range of products to chose from that will suit their needs.
People in specialised industries go to specialised outlets for their needs.
Most people avoid the local hardware because they only have two items in anyone category and the brand is some name you've never heard of.
well said!

isnt 50odd thousand enough to file a class action lawsuit?
I think presenting the list/this thread to free legal assistance in Dallas (mentioned above) might give some insight how likely/unlikely is to get anything back? I wonder, is this list completed and accurate?

http://www.pond5.com/community?forum=629&thread=52156987&lp=1adminlawrence 19 Feb 2016 20:42 It is with a painful sadness that I must inform you that we have lost our friend Jonathan at the beginning of the month to a fatal accident. Jonathan was much beloved by everyone who had the honor of working with him here at Pond5, as well as his diverse and numerous community of friends and family. I can without exaggeration say that he loved working with you all and doing what he did, and his absence will be felt for a long time. We will all miss him greatly, but will try to move forward with his influence at heart. Wisdom, Power, and Courage. Jonathan pretty much single handedly moderated these forums and kept you folks informed, and it will be hard to live up to the great job he did, but we'll try. The forum moderation will be in good hands with his teammates - we're here for you. Sincerely, Lawrence Pond5 Senior Gladiator

Isn't it refreshingnot to mention reassuringto have somebody from an agency come here to answer our questions and respond to our requests?
Impressive!
Can't agree more!

VB actually is in the process of sourcing in content for a one-time-fee. So it will be offered as "own" content on the site and available for a flat fee to customers forever and without limitation.
This business model, if it takes root, will eradicate the existing stock market. Even if you sign up for a commission you just feed the site to get a customer base, and once that base is established you will just receive 100% of nothing while the own content will be promoted.
You should think really well before supporting business models that will destroy your very livelihood.
Uh oh...and may I guess who you support fully?

There is a batch delete function. After you navigate to your uploads and you're looking at the files you want to delete:
(1) Click the square directly above or below the individual file squares in order to select all of the files on the page.
(2) If you don't wish to delete all of the files listed, click in the square beside each file that you wish to delete.
(3) Click the drop-down box at the bottom of the page below the list and choose "Delete Rejected." Don't worry about the fact that the files haven't been rejected by an inspector.
(4) Click the "execute" button. You'll see a pop-up window indicating that the files are being deleted. After the operation is completed, you can close this window.
If you wish to confirm that the files have been deleted, refresh the uploads page. I've deleted files this way successfully on several occasions.
I know, it is old thread, but it is amazing to see that the problem is still there. I need to bulk delete files in Pond5 and I tried method suggested by Carl (using check boxes and Delete Rejected -> execute function below, but it did not work. It says "ignoring clip XXXX", apparently because it is not "rejected". Anyone figured out the fastest way to delete files from Pond5 in bulk, regardless if they are rejected or not?

If you are anonymous, and dont include any personal info or links, nor one of your own photos as an avatar, as mentioned above, it would be nearly impossible for the agencies to know who you are. Also avoid posting specific, identifying details about your income or accounts.
Sounds a bit cloak and dagger, but worth it to be able to honestly discuss issues.
Also, I trust Tyler, the forum owner, who posts under the name Leaf, completely. I told him my real name back in 2009 when I signed up and he has never given away my anonymity. Not that anyone would 6ld care much anyway.
Maybe now Leaf can tell us have agency ever asked for our names? Yes or no would be enough. :-)

3. Agencies like Fotolia like to hide behind their "terms" to take punitive action against anyone who speaks out against their crooked business practices. So don't be critical of FOTOLIA or they will close your account. They have people in here reporting what is said about their agency.
Would they be able to link username here with account in the agency, providing two names are not the same?
You need to remain very anonymous and not post you portfolio and not post your real name, do not post examples of your work either. Anything you do fotolia and possibly others will use against you if they so choose. Or just don't post any criticisms and you will be fine.
What's the point of this forum if not to point out where agencies can improve?

owned by tyler olsen, not affiliated with any agency, you can say what you want here but agencies have representatives here and some agencies have punished people for stuff written here
Even though agencies choose not to participate much here, most certainly they do read this forum and monitor our discussions closely. Some even threaten with legal action for things said, that they didn't like about.

Likewise, review times don't bother me - Pond5 isn't the place to sell dated editorial footage and besides it usually takes at least 6 months for new footage to start selling, more often longer.
Good to see Pond5 now firmly in the Top Tier - Big 4 in the poll results. Plenty of people making good money there and all these folks bailing because they can't wait, well that's good for the rest of us in the long run
Says James Reynolds, Pond5 promoter who happen to get a nice promos every now and then via P5.

Nobody who wish well to the company should say that long reviews of clips and ID checks are OK.
p.s. Great footage, btw!
Maybe I should clarify, by review times I mean footage review times. I can't speak for the ID situation since I'm not affected but I sympathise with those whose portfolios have been suspended etc.
I'm not a "Pond5 promoter" since the bulk of my income is derived from direct sales and I'd much rather people licensed directly from me - but even if I was my point still stands. Stock is a long haul game and decent clips can and will make money for many years so I don't understand the big hurrah over the long queue right now. Heck, this week I sold a clip I shot almost 10 years ago.
Ok, if you don't promote P5, then P5 promotes you, so therefore you get some benefits out of it all and therefore your opinion on P5 affairs is rather biased. You should really show more empathy for the rest of the gang here, imho. You even cheered the current situation that is bringing less competition out there=more money for you, which I found rather obnoxious. How about calling your promoters up and asking them what's going on and then come back to tell us all? You obviously know people inside? Just saying....
