Nope.  It is really me getting ready to introduce it to a few buyer outlets so they know about it.  i have a few releases coming out shortly so the tiered pricing details and press release hasnt been at the top of my creative writing list ;-)

that would be a great idea.  what other sites are selling your work that you didnt authorize and do you know who the deal is through?

203
this hasnt been totally released yet but the option is available and i will be releasing some news to buyers on how this will work shortly.  just another way for buyers to purchase the file size they want.  took a bit longer to release than i had hoped but i am very glad with how it turned out.  already making smaller file sized sales so we will see how this affects the overal number of sales.

spamming is a real problem and one that i see firsthand. i have nightmares about it ;-)  well maybe not that far but i have spent a lot of time refining keywords at our site which wastes my time when i should be out getting more buyers.

first off spamming does not work. it basically upsets the buyer who will then ignore the site where they are seeing the most spam and irrelevant search results.  researchers and buyers hate to wade through countless images that shouldn't be included in their search query.  just think that is 20% of the search results that are returned are irrelevant than that is an extra 20% of time that a person has to spend going through it and wasting their time.

the reason you most likely are getting away with adding in spam words is because you haven't been caught yet or the site you are dealing with doesn't have a good system in place to check the keywords upon submission. its a tough battle that a site has to wage and can be very very costly.  spamming hurts the sites search results and pisses off the buyers who wont come back so indirectly it is hurting your sales on that site and wasting your time even uploading to that site in the first pace bc buyers won't come back.

we added a spam flagger to our site and regulary check keywords in our pending area.  you can't catch it all but you hope to at least contain it.  and sometimes you are dealing with a person whose first language isn't english and they have a good excuse for why their keywords might be slightly off.  i would also ask  the agency you work with how strict or lenient they are with keywords and then go according to their standards.

one thing that is really bothersome is someone who just cut and pastes keywords into 40 different images that were taking in the same shoot and doesnt change or add any of the keywords.  just because you show up in more search results doesn't mean that you will get more sales.  in a rare case MAYBE but more often than not it will never lead to more.  hope that helps from a perspective other than a contributor ;-)

Thanks for the time you guys have given so far and we are up to 41 contributors who passed on their opinions.  I would love to hear from more of you.  it is an anonymous survey and will really help us out.  I am more than happy to share the results when we are done so you can see what other contributors are concerned with.  many thanks

Hey Guys,

I really want to improve our service for both buyers and sellers and would really appreciate it if you could please take our 1 minute, anonymous survey to help us understand better what you are looking for. http://bit.ly/ViVN8

This is to help us understand what you expect from  a website like Cutcaster and how we can improve our service to maximize the benefits you can get out of it.  I'M LISTENING so this is your chance to really let us know what you want and what is important to you.

Without your input we won't know what to change and your feedback is invaluable. Thanks for your time.

interesting.  i wonder how many of those transactions were caught before they ended up as a chargeback?  that would start to add up for an agency as paypal for example adds 10 bucks onto every chargeback to the merchant.

what are some of the excuses/reasons that agencies give you when there is a reason.  is it a boilerplate answer everytime or do they explain what happened?

210
I have been reading about some of the other companies in our industry giving refunds from fraudulent credit card transactions and removing money from accounts when they incur chargebacks. doesn't seem like they can offer a lot of protection to their contributors or fight with the credit card companies to recoup any losses.

how many of you have been affected by this and how much do you think it costs you?  i'm interested in learning how big of a problem this is and how much it could be costing photographers, agencies and how this could be affecting the price the buyer is paying (if it does)?

Hey Larry,

This is being finished right now.  We will offer different sizes at different prices within a week or so.  We are almost done w it and just testing it out for bugs on the demo site.  I took your advice from this thread and used it in the development of how we will offer the files so thanks.

@tan510jomast  if you dont want buyers to be able to buy your images for a few cents then i think you should take them off those sites and put them on sites that you can make more commision on.  I understand buyers are there but things need to change and start somewhere.

I think a lot of people miss the notion that most (traditional) buyers when it comes to images under 50 bucks are not that price sensitive. So if the image is priced 4, 14, or 40 bucks it wont matter alot.  Having the right image is the most important.

212
Wow, us, Agencies really need a makeover.  I hope people don't feel that way about our company. What a nightmare of a feeling and perception and i am sorry that some of you feel that way.  I see it being completely mutual and helping one another.

I wonder how buyers would answer this question.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Bing search tool
« on: June 16, 2009, 00:01 »
i've been noticing a lot of search traffic from bing recently to cutcaster.  i like the site. not sure it will replace google but it will be a contender just based on the sheer size of msft.

214
do people like that option?  i wonder how many people opt out of having their images resized?

Adobe Stock / Re: Fotolia Funded? Sold?
« on: May 27, 2009, 20:19 »
this doesnt make sense on a lot of levels and TC is really sweating FT.  they have been reporting on them like crazy.  that makes me think that FT is paying them, has great PR (probably this) or advertising on their site (maybe this).  there were like 4 FT announcements in 2 weeks on TC.

FT put this statement out.

""  TechCrunch has been very, very good to us. We are huge fans of the site and its reporters, and think they provide great value in to startup and tech community. The latest article is reporting on rumors, and Fotolia never comments on rumors. With respect to the facts in the article, we can confirm that Fotolia's business is strong, rapidly growing, and gaining on the industry leader. ""

pretty secretive.  also there is nothing on TA's website. 50-100 million is just an astronomical figure in a down economy so i have a hard time believing it.

216
yeah i have researched what other sites are doing and their sizes.  in addition i have been asking buyers what sizes they typically buy which varies obviously by industry and use.

i like the idea of opting in or out of having your images resized and wonder if people would want that feature.  when i ask the buyers they say they want all the images to be offered in different sizes but want to hear what you guys think too bc you are half the equation and its your content.

astrocady i think what you said is what we can do and will do.

thank you alias and sharply done too.

217
would people be interested in some kind of opt out of creating and offering different sizes of their images on a site?

218
thats an interesting point astrocady and madelaide.  ill see what the developers say and post more in here.  anyone else have any ideas or suggestions.

milinz not becoming anything but broadening the offering to cater to more customers ;-)

219
Forgive me for being naive, but I am going to have our developers start to build out the ability to buy different resolutions and dimensions of images at Cutcaster and was wondering what the general criteria is for determining the resize ratio of the image as you go from the highest to the lowest resolution.

Do different agencies offer different resize options or do they follow a ratio like from XL to L you cut the resolutions in half?

What is the most file sizes that should be offered?  3-6?  Is there a ratio that the re-sizing of the image should follow i.e. divide by two each resolution down etc?

I am open to any ideas you guys can offer up on the best way to offer different sized images.  We have been getting more and more requests for it but since a lot of you are on multiple sites i would love to hear what you think are good ways to do this.

220
That is really good.  Hhahahaha.

221
Sean, that is a great point but I think they view the email address/contact info they acquire from the signup to be more valuable then the content or keeping photographers happy/paid for their work.  It's almost like a drug dealer and getting someone hooked on your product.  Freebies have been around forever in my opinion but making a business out of freebies isn't going to do anything to stabilize image prices or help the industry in general.

The quote you chose is kind of ironic.  If someone is paying 30 bucks a month for internet service, you would think that they could pay a dollar.

222
completely agree.  the only part that stinks is that the scammer has the high res original and can just do this again to another site.  something needs to be done bc this is a lot of lost revenue for the actual copyright holder and lots of an agencies time and money is lost due to this.  looks like he is still there at crestock.

223
looks like he has sold 49 images.  i wonder what that does to the buyers who bought those images.  is that license agreement void and could they be in violation.

Crestock should really remove this guys account.  He is a full on fraud and has sold a bunch of licenses at crestock using other peoples files.

I like Featurpics process. You can ftp upload an eps and a jpg with the same name. The image info is read off the jpg and both files are made available as sales options. To me zipping files, especially the jpg and eps together, is one of the biggest pains in vector uploading. Zipping a hundred vector sets before you can upload them is time consuming and frustrating.

so what are the best ways i can avoid that.  i want to make it as easy a process as possible and not have to require the zip.  i will take a look at FP and BS. but would love any more help. thanks
