What . is going on at SS? Have they got some new software that rejects everything.
I cannot believe what they are rejecting, it is insulting.

Adorama does not charge an early adopter premium as far as I am aware
Adorama and every other retailer does not set the retail price. The manufacturer does. It is up to the retailer whether they choose to charge the full retail or not. However, the early advertising is paid for by CANON, and they will not pay for anything unless the advertising features the FULL recommended retail price. They may also have some rules on retailers about offering DEALS for a period of time. However (once again) Adorama could easily create a coupon system for a particular group of buyers, like this forum, that offers deals. While they may not be able to legally offer a reduction in price because of their agreement with Canon, they can offer "incentives" such as buy this thing and your next thing will only cost x.

I am telling you guys - the only way we get a deal is on some higher profit margin items because the 5DMkII is certainly not one of them.
Don't know where you got this information, but it is 180 degrees from accurate. New stuff, any new stuff is where the retailers make their margins. They catch the early adapters. If it wasn't for new stuff, or Christmas, most retailers would not be in business.

I am an Aussie too, and I am about to experiment. The result will be either a win or loss, for me.
Got $1000 in PayPal. Thinking of converting it to AUD now our dollar is only 79 cents. Then if it rises against the greenback I will convert it back to USD.
Not sure if I can really do this.

Congrats. But if I was in the market for the 50D I would be going to the dark side and getting the D90

I see a few shops offering "no tax" on pre orders of Canon and Nikon but I think it is a scam. I think they actually add the tax to the recommended price, and then deduct it.
From my recollection the advertised price must include the sales tax.

i find them the most frustrating of all the sites. The thing that gives me the pips is when you hit the last button and it says you need a word / category thing. what? You sit there and try to attach stuff and it obviously does not stick.
I just give up with them.

Hey Leaf, not sure if they have an affilliate program. Might be worth a look.
When you put the item in the shopping basket it discounts the price.
Not sure if this is an online online thing just for the weekend.

In Australia, in normal retail sales the profit margin for these sorts of consumer goods is 25 - 32%. This does not of course take into consideration the skimming for the early adapters.
A company will make choice of pricing strategies dependent upon whether it chooses market penetration (lower price) or skimming (higher price).
Added to this is a distributor margin of about 7%. Even the biggies like Best Buy still use the distributor network simply because of the logistic advantages.

I would buy from Adorama if the deal was right.
I don't think they will leave us waiting too long to find out.

I have bought stuff from them too Lisa.
I am in Australia, and the reason I chose them was they accept PayPal.
The stuff arrived fast, well packed, and all enquiries were dealt with professionally.
HOWEVER, I just think the $millions the people from this forum alone spend on gear each year deserves something better.
The manufacturers run around pleasing the pros with sponsorship etc, and we get nothing. I would hope a big place like Adorama might be able to build something we could join, therefore we show our committment, and then they go back to their suppliers and ask them to sharpen their pencils.
A big discount. That is what I want.

unless something extraordinary happened, I will not be uploading to any more micro sites. I will focus on SS, StockXpert, DT, Fotolia and let the rest just sit there. Fotolia seems to have come reasonable for me, but nothing like the others.
I am new to StockXpert so have no idea how well I will go. DT has been going backwards for me in sales despite the fact I am building the portfolio, and SS sales are dependent on keeping the uploads going.
Where I want to go in the future is on the sites like Alamy.

Those involved in having their work stolen need to report it to PayPal. They will freeze his account.

Since many of you are bored, I thought we could have a little competition.
How about we create out best pseudo email scam letter and put it up for critique by the other members and visitors.
So we need some rules.
1. Email scam must be limited to the following subjects: (a) Former Ministry of Finance has hidden gold, (b) your uncle owns oil wells there,(c) reader has inherited $32million USD from a ex-patriot who lived in Nigeria and has been killed by rebels. 2. No other rules
Get to it.

Thank you for the recommendation for Adorama; we always appreciate when satisfied Adorama Customers let others know about us!
Since you are browsing Helen, how about organising some discounts for the 40,000 or so stock photographers around the place

24-70 2.8L is much better lens than 24-105, but even 24-70 suffers from chromatic aberation

Has the 24-70 got IS? That is what I need with my shaky hands.

Well I have to say, I did Journalism at uni. And in PhotoJournalism we had this drummed into us.
BUT ... and a BIG but.
There is nothing illegal (as far as I can recall) about digitally changing a press photograph. It is more to do with a question of ethics. In particular, it is a breach of most Journalist Associations Codes of Conduct to do this.
The one that comes to mind is a photo of some bridge in Canada with an Olympic symbol that had been placed on it to celebrate Canada's bid.
As far as editorial stock goes, the site would say you are breaking their rules, and as such boot you from the site. However, I really do not think anyone could ever be sued for this.
To me that is the difference between a photographer and a photo-journalist. I do not know too many wedding photographers who do not airbrush the bride to make her look her best.

I very much doubt you would get 25% off - maybe 5%
Got a price list from Drop Shipper Network in front of me now with 25% discounts for 20 sales. And they are one of the more expensive distributors.
