Smells like Sears. 🤢

Shutterstock.com / Re: What is happening to SS?
« on: October 13, 2017, 17:09 »
Acceptance of every image, no matter how redundant, so the site is flooded with similar crud. Pushing newer contributors up in the search and burying established contributors to maximize profits. And competition from free sites. I see more and more businesses using photos from free photo sites for their social media every day. That's killing our sub sales.

Not to mention loads of online cheat programs that steal your images.
I wish SS and others affected by this would get off their buns and fix this nonsense.  ::)
In the mean time, no uploads for them.

Off Topic / In your face contract design

http://designtaxi.com/news/393907/This-Design-Firm-s-Bold-Honest-Jargon-Free-Contract-Is-Simply-Brilliant/

Though I share this pretty interesting way a designer made a custom bold contract design and business card.
I wonder how many of you would be brave enough to design like this. But I guess a well established person would be unafraid to do this.
What do you think?  :D

Over all its pretty boring looking but the boldness of the words might make up for it.

Off Topic / Re: Safer
« on: October 03, 2017, 22:21 »
If the more weapons we have makes us safer why don't we give nukes to N. Korea and Iran?

Because its like giving a running moron scissors. Or giving a 5 year old matches.
Really no leader of today should have access to these things cause well all they care about its power and greed.
Wish they would care about their fellow human beings and the pursuit of knowledge.  ::)

This stealing site is alive and well at xdownder dot com

I reported this to SS but I'm done, I will not upload to SS. People not uploading may be the only thing SS will understand. Stop uploading, upload to other sites only, and let SS know why.

WE contributors are what makes the stock sites "good". SS is not a "good site" without our content, so lets show them!

I'm with you. Taking a break from them until they can truly clean up this trouble and not drag their feet.
I have nothing to loose.  :-\

Perhaps Shutterstock contributors could learn from this: you can make $1k a day on Etsy, so why bother with Shutterstock?

Easy for that person to sell on Etsy cause those images are not theirs. So no responsibility there. No worries of someone else stealing and making a buck.

Kind of like, its easy to trash a public place but when someone does it to your home, watch out.

Shutterstock.com / Re: Shutterstock Custom is born
« on: September 25, 2017, 22:32 »
Are there rates and so on buried in there somewhere or are we expected to do custom work for .38 or 33%?

I didn't see any rates posted, but here's an earlier thread that included some info on what a Flashstock contributor got paid (not much but not 38 cents :) )

Sounds like you would make more at a place called Fiverr. Hummmm 😐

General Stock Discussion / Re: Graphicstock is now Storyblocks
« on: September 19, 2017, 22:54 »
Not the cleverest of name changes. I googled it and 1st entry is a content provider / charity called..... wait for it...... Storyblocks

http://www.storyblocks.org

That should have been the first thing they checked. I can see this causing confusion for both companies.

Reminds me of the onsite company I use to work for.
It had several names and one more maybe added the last time I was in touch.  ::)

I am getting nothing from the web address, have they finally shut the doors after several years of minimal downloads?

LOL Wishful thinking.  ;D

« on: September 19, 2017, 22:35 »
Stupid question. Is it just Shutterstock or is it also other MS sites too?

237
Strict? Don't think so.
Just a double standard over there.
They will except porno images, yet they don't except animal droppings.
Personally I'd get rid of the smut and then they'll have better business. :-\

238
Yup drunk button pushing, zombie button pushing or your typical bot doing the reviewing.
Got my share of a ridiculous rejection.
Vector excepted but not the jpg cause they did not like the name.  ::)

239
Good reason for that. Probably less bull from reviewers that want you to jump though hoops for ridiculous requests after a stupid rejection and for what? A proverbial peanut.

Shutterstock.com / Re: Are new images selling?
« on: August 16, 2017, 22:34 »
Yes they do but sometimes not right away. They don't always catch someones eye right away and then bam! I had one image that didn't sell anything for the first year and then I was getting several extended licensees on it.  :)

243
People do make money there it seems but they only seem to except images that look a bit on the elaborate side and not to mention obvious. In other words nothing that looks a bit abstract or like a metaphor. I may be wrong but that's the impression I get.  :)

Illustration - General / Re: Yet another Email scam
« on: August 09, 2017, 17:14 »
Thank you for your opinions.  :)

That reddit.com article was pretty interesting. Thanks for sharing. But regarding the author who wrote that, I would have worded it better. Instead of referring those artists who get these emails "having pretty terrible artworks anyways" , I would have left that part out. It makes the person who wrote that article look pretty vain. Or refer that the artist that goes for that kind of stuff seem pretty vain.  Just seems unprofessional.  ???

Anyways I really don't need to waste my money or time on these things since I already have stuff in books, through other medias such as inflatable advertisements and on top of that people gave me money. Not the other way around. And That's how it should work.  ;) ;D

Illustration - General / Yet another Email scam
« on: August 08, 2017, 23:06 »
Yup I got one of these scams in the mail geared towards illustrators and book illustrators.  They ask you to pay a fee in order to show case your work in a book. A legit company would only ask if its alright for a few of your high quality images to be featured in a book.
The company is called Crooks Press Publishing of all things.  ::)
Sample of email.
My name is Gloria Luca, I am the artist manager for Crooks Press Publishing. I recently discovered your work via   http://www.creativeshake.com which I think is fantastic!

But you have to make and Adobe account to use it.
Also you can easily translate in to your own language providing that yours is under that list.  :)

That crab one would be great for a local fish n chips eatery around here. Maybe I'll sent them a link.  ;) ;D
I'm always parking my bike next to that annoying squeaky, pretty ugly thing. It would be a vast improvement on their part.  :)

Oh and there's this old Toro snowblower my dad has, you know? When they actually built things with steal and power. On the pipe where the snow is ejected it looks a lot like an Easter island head. I may wanna do something like this. If he doesn't give me the go ahead, I'll just do a JPG version for fun.  :)

Oh yeah, Thanks for sharing. Great link! :)

General Stock Discussion / Re: AUGUST SALES
« on: July 31, 2017, 16:51 »
Historically, it looks like August should offer a slight uptick in sales, and, thankfully, no US holidays... Thoughts?

Nope long weekend coming up over here. But in the end it really doesn't matter.
Got downloads any how.  :)

Looks like I fixed it. Its was just a simple matter of changing the screen/forum name.
Kind of dumb I know.  ???
