Photo Critique / Re: Critique need for Shutterstock Application
« on: February 01, 2008, 19:14 »
The "Seattle Skyline with Sailboat" should pass. The others may not. The "Modern Urban Buildings" picture might pass, but don't hold your breath. Mainly, I think the dark shadows will cause a problem in most of your pictures. It's also hard to critique these pictures since they are so small. And I never reduced my picture size to four megapixels, so I don't know how helpful that will be for you.

General Stock Discussion / Two questions about the RM license.
« on: January 30, 2008, 19:09 »
If you submit an image with an RM license, does that mean only one person can buy it? And if this is the case, how much should I sell it for? Let's use the picture that is associated with the link below as an example. How much would you sell the spice drops image for(3456 x 2304 px)?

http://www.istockphoto.com/file_closeup/object/4792773_spice_drops.php?id=4792773

Thanks.

Dreamstime.com / Re: Are Micro Becoming Little Macro?
« on: January 29, 2008, 12:02 »
I haven't noticed much of a change in my Dreamstime sales, and I don't contribute that much. If anything, it's gone up a bit(just a little). I'm going to stick with quality over quantity.

Maybe painting, ink, bun, and clay? But the keywords seem okay to me. I definitely wouldn't call it massive keyword spamming.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Sales slowing down?
« on: January 24, 2008, 13:00 »
BigStock is doing better for me too(at least for this month). As for iStockphoto, they're doing okay. A lot of older images are selling, with just a few newer ones being bought as well.

General Stock Discussion / Hiding affiliate links?
« on: January 22, 2008, 20:17 »
For those of you that use referral links to generate money on the microstock websites, do you hide them? I've been reading about how some people think that you should hide your referral links because some people don't trust them, and others will attempt to steal your affiliate links; thus, gaining them a few bucks.  And some people even say that certain software programs, like Ad-Aware, will scramble your referral codes. What are your thoughts?

I have around a dozen vector images on Shutterstock and Stockxpert. They seem to do okay on Shutterstock but nothing so far on Stockxpert. They're just simple things like an lcd television, a pencil; etc.

Shutterstock.com / Re: SS Down?
« on: January 18, 2008, 23:11 »
At least it happened over a weekend.

And it only looks like we can't login; individual portfolios still seem to be working. Though, I guess if buyers can't login then it's a moot point.

I just put the Featurepics gallery on my website, but it doesn't seem to work correctly in Internet Explorer. The thumbnails load but the buttons don't function; however, it works fine in Firefox and Safari. I'm thinking that it may just be me(too much security), so I thought I would ask if any of you are having trouble using it in Internet Explorer.

Also, if a potential buyer clicks one of the images on my website and creates an account with Featurepics then does he or she count as a referral? Or do I just make money from the individual sale? Thanks.

HermanM, a great many stocks are down. Getty isn't a great investment in my opinion, but I'm betting that they'll go back up eventually. Free cash flow, low fin leverage(debt), low P/E Ratio, ROA and ROE are okay; etc. Just blame it on panicked investors.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Considering Closing Account in 2008
« on: January 12, 2008, 16:45 »
I may be wrong, but if you close your account with some of these microstock agencies then don't they reserve the right to still sell your images? So if you close your account with an agency then you are letting them sell your images and keep all of the money. Maybe it's just certain agencies. I think that Zazzle.com operates that way.

The holidays slowed things down some. Maybe it will pick back up in a couple of weeks.

Adobe Stock / Fotolia, Then and Now.
« on: January 05, 2008, 11:13 »
So what do you think of Fotolia since the revamp? Is it still a complete disaster? I think it's a bit better. However, I still think the site is fairly buggy.

My most recent issue is due to changing my email. For some reason, my email was validated but the process was not completed. Instead, I received an email stating that there were problems with my account and that my account would be closed if they were not fixed. The only problem I found was that it stated I was an image buyer, so I changed that. But then I checked it again this morning, and it still says that I'm an image buyer. Oh well. It's not like I earn much with Fotolia.

They have managed to at least encrypt the page where you enter your Social Security number, but I still think it's way too easy for hackers to find this number. If your account is ever hijacked then all the hacker has to do is click on modify your account, and they have your personal information(including your SS). And I do not believe that they require your Social Security number until you hit $600. That's when the IRS wants documentation of your earnings. Maybe I'm wrong.

Okay, I've written enough. What does everyone else think?

240
Yuri, I think I'll wait for the price to come down to around $600. I'll take another look at your camera in a decade or so.  ;)

Aperture priority when I shoot outside.

Istockphoto is down. Hopefully, it will be brief; I do like the the blue octopus graphic, though.

123RF / Re: Is uploading to 123rf worth the effort?
« on: December 16, 2007, 18:32 »
Traffic is slow, and it's one of my worst performers. But 123RF does let you download your own files, so they are useful as a back up. The referral program isn't bad either. Perhaps, with time, 123RF will improve.

Shutterstock.com / Re: Confirm e-mail
« on: December 13, 2007, 11:52 »
From support:

"This message was only supposed to be shown to submitters who are being paid by check...it was briefly shown to everyone but we're fixing that now. It's just for security and to confirm that we have a valid email address in case we need to contact the submitter for any reason. If you are not paid by check, you can disregard this message and we're sorry for the confusion. If you are paid by check and you haven't yet received a verification email you should get one soon."

The glitch is being fixed.

General - Top Sites / Re: December Sales Flat?
« on: December 10, 2007, 19:16 »
Shutterstock has been low this month, but iStockphoto is doing well so far. The others are about normal.

Shutterstock.com / Re: SS is dying for me
« on: December 10, 2007, 13:05 »
October: 325 sales
November: 225 sales
December(so far): 39 sales

And iStockphoto and Dreamstime are the ones that are increasing. I still upload around five to ten images per week at Shutterstock, and still the sales seem very sluggish. I'm just going to blame it on the holidays.

But hey, I've only sold two images this month at Stockxpert so Shutterstock is far from being the worst when it comes to sales.

How many images do you submit to Shutterstock per week? I usually submit between five to fifteen.

My iStockphoto account would have been down this month had I not received an EL on Thanksgiving Day. Shutterstock is down, though. However, Bigstockphoto saw a late rally.

I sold a little over two hundred this month, so it wasn't too bad. But I'm afraid there will be no payout this month. :-\
