DeviantArt for selling images, maybe, but not sure I can embed my videos into some kind of hand-crafted cushion on Etsy!

Two sales in Feb, two sales in March and two sales so far in April. Never known a site to have such steady sales! I'm assuming that won't go on forever, but seeing as we're only two weeks into April, I'm hoping it might be more than two by the end of the month!

General Stock Discussion / Re: What data do you track?« on: April 13, 2016, 05:38 »
I just use Excel... one tab for each year showing the dollar value of sales broken down into different sites and months. I then have an overview tab showing the overall sales by year and site. Got a little graph at the top so i can see trends in sales by month, but that's not broken down by sites.

Adobe Stock / Fotolia Withdrawals« on: April 13, 2016, 05:29 »
So I've just made my first withdrawal on Fotolia... I think! It's not very intuitive as I'm going to 'convert credits', which I want to do, as I want to turn my credits into money. But what I really want to do is to withdraw that money. By converting credits, are you automatically requesting a withdrawal as well? I entered my Paypal like asked, so I'm assuming that might be the case, but everywhere else I 'withdraw' rather than 'convert'. Didn't seem to get any kind of confirmation saying... "thanks for withdrawing, it's pending, we'll send you some money. Thanks." or anything like that.
And when they say seven days for withdrawals..., is that usually the case? Thanks! ![]() 2357

Keep in mind that the floor plan is just a 'serving suggestion' from the agent. For all we know, the entire central space might be one giant ball pit.

Print on Demand Forum / Re: Imagekind: pay to play?« on: April 07, 2016, 07:16 »
Not sure if it's 'evil' but I think it's a bad idea from a longevity of the site point of view. Everywhere else features files because they're of a high quality and useful to buyers. If anyone can feature their own items, then I'm sure you'll get a lower caliber of content being presented to potential buyers. And if they're featured files are rubbish, then that's not really going to impress buyers. Bad idea in my opinion.

Newbie Discussion / Re: New eBook: How to get started with Stock Photography« on: April 04, 2016, 01:55 »I've got a couple of books on Mstock which were useful when I was starting out but when you have been doing it while I think decent books about composition lighting photoshop etc are far more useful I agree, but making great images isn't going to automatically result in success at selling microstock. There's definitely valuable info that people can benefit from that isn't lighting and composition based. Which sites to go for, ways to speed up workflow, tagging, item descriptions, social media strategy and most importantly... what to shoot. There's a guy on VH who has about 1000 items. Half of them have never had a sale. From those 1000 items he's had about 4000 sales over the last three years. I'm not wanting to blow my own trumpet, but on my non-exclusive account, I have 51 items and I've had 680 sales over the last eight months. So over 13 sales per item (1.5 a month) compared to his 4 sales (0.1 a month). There's absolutely nothing wrong with his composition, lighting and video quality. He's a talented guy who knows a lot more than me about shooting video and creating great looking images. I just feel that some people have trouble figuring out why their 500 images of specialty breads from Moldova aren't selling as well as 5 images of famous landmarks... or their 100 images of their cat in slightly different poses isn't selling as well as one image of two business people shaking hands. I'm not trying to teach anyone to suck eggs... everyone here probably knows a lot more than me when it comes to selling stock, but for those that such a book might appeal to, those looking to start out selling stock... I think it's pretty important to get their sales and marketing heads on, as well as their photographer/videographer head on. 2362
Pond5 / Re: Pond5 Sales Reporting« on: April 04, 2016, 01:33 »Can they really be delaying reporting sales 'till the next month? When P5 pays out, they pay out your current balance at that time (i.e., on the 15th, usually). What benefit would they get for delaying reporting of sales from the 31st to the 1st? That would make sense then. Like if a check takes three days to clear, it always clears at the same time every day, early in the morning, no matter what time you pay it in. Well, it does at my bank anyway. But as to what benefit there would be... I'm not sure how taxes work in the US, but if they have to pay tax monthly or quarterly, then they can reduce their tax obligation, albeit very slightly, by tagging some late sales onto the next period instead. Sure, they pay the same overall in the long run... but it's the same reason that companies put off paying invoices as long as possible. Better in their bank than somebody else's. 2363

How's that? Sounds good. I can provide some info for the motion graphics section! In fact, doesn't look like there's a video section in that book... get some footage experts on board (not me!) and price it at $9. Cheaper, and a bigger potential client base. What's not to like?! 2365

Pond5 / Re: Pond5 Sales Reporting« on: April 03, 2016, 01:34 »
I always get the email between 06:30 and 8:00 in the mornings. That's 00:30 to 02:00 Big Apple Time.
One thing I did notice on the 1st of April... I got the email at 06:32. I'm assuming P5 run on US time, so that's 32 minutes past midnight on the East coast. I had two sales. When I logged in to my dashboard, it showed both sales as being made on the 1st of April. I find it unlikely that those two sales were made within a 32 minute period. I'm not going to lose any sleep over it, and I need to look into it a bit more to see if this has happened before, will happen after... but I'm assuming that reporting sales in one month, rather than the previous month, could be of benefit from a tax/reporting/payouts/something kind of vibe. 2368

My portfolio went live on the about the 15th of February. Had two sales in Feb, two sales in March. Hoped it might have been four sales in March, but I guess Easter doesn't help. My two March sales were in the first 11 days of the month.

General - Top Sites / Re: Is there anyone to say I'am Happy with my Earning« on: March 29, 2016, 17:50 »same here - if I weren't happy with my results, I'd be doing something else Absolutely! I'm heading off travelling at the end of May. World Series of Poker in Vegas for a couple of weeks, on to Thailand for a couple more weeks, and then not really sure after that. I could still do that if I didn't sell stock, but the "not really sure after that" would mean me coming home and restocking the coffers. Based on my current income from stock, the fact I'll get a regular (although slightly fluctuating) income every month, and if I stick to countries that aren't ridiculously expensive... then there's no reason why I can't stay on the road for six, twelve or even twenty four months! I mean obviously, I'll get killed by snakes, spiders or gangsters long before that... but it's the thought that counts! 2370
General - Top Sites / Re: Is there anyone to say I'am Happy with my Earning« on: March 29, 2016, 02:44 »After starting the SS upload has passed about two months. Having lived two months have settled generate revenue of $ 25 the first month, second month, $ 110. There investing more than 10 hours per day if you spent one year in this way does get a satisfactory return one years after? Takes me about a week to upload and tag my 60 clips to a new site. That's not a week of work though, most of that is waiting for stuff to upload, so I can do other stuff in the meantime. Actually selecting and clicking upload, naming, describing and tagging is only a few hours. I see your point, but if everyone was worried about whether sales would offset the amount of work involved, then nobody would upload anything... as there's no guarantees. Sure, you can do a bit of research, check the polls here, try and figure out if certain things sell at certain sites more than others, but there's still an element of risk, no matter how good your stuff is. I think it's still worth testing the waters, unless the site is really small, has no history etc. Even if it's just with a core selection of your work, to get an idea. 2371
General - Top Sites / Re: Is there anyone to say I'am Happy with my Earning« on: March 28, 2016, 15:22 »I'm pretty happy with my earnings. I'm doing video though, specifically motion graphics, so not a photographer. Last month I made $1850, February 2015 I made $521, February 2014 I made $30, February 2013 I made $27 and February 2012 I made $0. Before currency exchange. I make a lot more than I did a couple of years ago, with the dollar being stronger against the pound. It is a lot of places to upload to, but it's hard to tell which ones will pay off without trying. I give them a try and decide whether it;s worth uploading new stuff there. I've given up on ClipCanvas, Revostock gave up on everyone, about to stop uploading to ClipDealer and Dreamstime. I don't have a massive portfolio at the moment. I have at Envato on my exclusive account, but my non-exclusive stuff is only about 60 clips, so it's worth testing the waters as they don't take too long to upload and keyword. Especially if I can copy and paste a lot of the content from existing portfolios elsewhere. 2372

Unless you've previously been issued an SSN, EIN or other TIN from the IRS... then you should use your foreign tax id number. That's whatever ID number your country's tax office uses to identify you. If you're from one of the few countries that don't have a tax ID and you're purely identified through name and date of birth (Like France for example), then you can apply for an EIN from the IRS and use that instead.
