Hi guys, everything is registered to me as I own a company, but I have web designers heading the project. This all came about as I wanted to sell my templates as I'm a graphic designer, not web designer, I was advised it would be a good idea to allow others to sell their creatives as well. There's Terms and Conditions on the site once you sign up, login you have to agree to them when you submit an item and also when purchasing, but agreed I'll ask the team to create a page on the main nav. Thanks for the help. And posting my address is a low blow.
That's not so bad for a seller... they can always decide whether to submit stuff or not if they can see terms and conditions after registering, but prior to uploading. No good for buyers though... I went through the purchase process until the point I was asked for payment details, and there was no licensing info up until that point. If I was looking for stock images, then I wouldn't be too keen on only knowing what I can do with the image after I've paid for it. That could be putting buyers off, so it's worth getting that sorted as soon as you can.

Site looks reasonable. There's hardly anything on there, but I guess everyone needs to start somewhere. The 100% is generous, but you might want to consider taking at least something for marketing costs, or you'll have trouble building up a customer base.
The big thing for me though, and why I would never even consider uploading anything to your site, is that there is absolutely nothing about licensing. Can I just use the images in a blog, or can I get them printed on millions of t-shirts? Do I have complete ownership of the image once I pay my 3... so I can then upload it to my portfolio on other stock marketplaces?
I'm guessing not, but there's nothing on your site to tell me that. Although you (or the photographer in question) might come out the victor if it got that far, it would be a long and messy court case, that would make everyone involved really regret the lack of water-tight documentation in place... before you started selling.
I don't want to knock what you're doing... it's as good a start as any, and you might do well. But you're not the first person to think about setting up a stock marketplace, you won't be the last, and judging by the number of them that have failed, it's not quite as easy as it seems. Your post about "no more laying down guides and setting rules, its all been done before" is nice in theory, but people often need guides and rules to make sure their work is protected.

Has anyone tried out this site? 123stock.co.uk, I know they're running a special at the moment
Well, unless I'm mistaken... it's your website. So I'd be pretty worried if you didn't know they had a special on at the moment.

About a 35% drop from January to February for me. Although my sales are usually slightly erratic, so it's far from a cause for concern for me. Not been on SS for long, but I'd say my P5 sales are usually about two to three time more on P5 than on SS. Have a bigger port on P5 though.

I'm pretty new to iStock, but I've never had to upload a thumbnail and all of my stuff is automatically down-converted if required.

Who offers 70%, just out of interest?

Yeah, that's what I'm saying... upload with and without effects if possible. If it's one or the other, panning and zooming effects will appeal to some and not to others, so it's a bit of a tough one.

I think that it can be good for longer cuts. A Ken Burns effect could transform something boring in something more interesting See here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o0jans-KUE4
I completely agree, but if you've got five, ten, twenty clips in a row, then you want to vary the Ken Burns action so it's not repetitive. So you want left to right, zoom in, right to left, zoom out etc etc. If the Ken Burns effects has already been applied then you're limited to which clips you can use and/or whic order you put them in.. so it;s not zoom in, zoom in, zoom in, left to right, left to right, left to right etc etc. If that makes sense?! But I agree, that kind of effect would add interest to a clip, especially if its on its own... but if somebody is editing multiple clips together, then it can reduce the usability of the clips.

I prefer no motion when buying a timelapse, so that I can add my own. However, although it's a relatively simple process, some people might not know how to do that, they might not be able to achieve something as good as you can, or they may not consider adding such an effect... so they automatically feel that one with motion is better than one without, if that's the kind of thing they are looking for.
If there's the option to upload both, then that's probably the way to go. That's the way I see it anyway.

You seem to be focusing a bit too heavily on the desk part of the prize. Myself, I'd be slightly more interested in the first class return flights and accommodation. Whatever floats your boat though, you might be able to trade in the tickets for a fancier desk that they could ship to you.

2m is still 8m short. old thread but still a nonsense incentive. its no incentive at all and no one has ever achieved it on envato
Are you sure about that? Themefusion hit $10m back in December, there's two other authors who are well over $5m, and another 15 who are between $2m and $5m. Seeing the $10m barrier was broken, they've added a new tier... get to $25m and they'll pay for you to go into space! http://elite.envato.com/

Only been on VideoBlocks for a couple of weeks and I've had two sales already. Two weeks is a bit too short for me to embrace it as a the new promised land, but we'll see how it goes! It is pretty nice to see $47.16 for one sale though, puts iStock to shame!

I mainly do motion graphics stuff directly out of After Effects, but when I shoot video I always use a flat color profile and then color correct in After Effects. If the footage has been shot well then, for me, it's just a case of adding a levels adjustment to add back in a bit of contrast and saturation. If there's a an issue with the color then I can usually fix that with just a curves adjustment. I try and limit myself to correcting the color rather than actually grading the clip... if I do grade at all, then I'll keep it very subtle.
I guess it depends where you're selling your footage. If it's somewhere cheap and cheerful, then your buyers might not be professionals. As a result, they might want stuff ready to go, and if they see a flat color profile they might think it looks 'wrong'. On the other hand, if somebody is paying $299+ for one HD clip, then they're probably going to know what they're doing. I could be wrong, just a thought!

As mentioned previously, total earnings per month can be misleading, based on how many items one has in their portfolio. I do videos rather than photos... space stuff surprisingly enough, and my best video gets me about $70 a month. My worst video makes me $0 a month! Average is probably $10 a month or so.

Good stuff, thanks!

Averages for the last three months or so...
Artbeats Express: $30 - 20 clips SS: $50 - 20 clips iS: $20 - 20 clips ME: $15 - 20 clips P5: $125 - 175 clips VideoHive Non-Exclusive: $250 - 40 clips VideoHive Exclusive: $850 - 267 clips
Just had a bunch of clips approved on VB so hoping I might get some action there. The majority of my stuff is motion graphics though, rather than footage, just so you know.
VB completely dead for me. Not a sale in 3 months going on 4 with about 1,000 videos.
Yeah, seems like it might not be the promised land that some are making it out to be. I've uploaded my core bunch of clips and we'll see how it goes. Quick question... do you get any kind of notification when you sell a clip, like the daily sales email on Pond5? That'll save me a bit of time checking every day!

House of cards using stock footage?😱😧
It was understandable, under the circumstances. It was part of a political 'attack ad', so it was a selection of clips as part of an ad campaign shown at the beginning of one of the episodes... rather than something that was meant to have been shot as part of the production of the show. If that makes sense?! http://www.pond5.com/stock-footage/1087588/usa-map-states-combine.html

Just over 2.5 months my last batch. The only good thing is that they review everything you have in the queue at once... so although I had some clips that had been in the queue for 2.5 months, I also had stuff in the queue that had only been there for a few days. Would prefer a consistent one or two weeks though.

I had a few sales a couple of years ago but nothing recently. They have a 'Just Sold' section on the homepage which, if anything to go by, they only seem to have a dozen sales or so a week. Could be going the way of Revostock before we know it.

I upload 4K and HD separately. Only get one or two sales a month.
