iStockPhoto.com / Re: only 20% on Istock?
« on: February 10, 2008, 12:03 »
With 1000 good Photos i make more than 1000.-  $ every month at macrostocks like Alamy. And i get 65% there... Here is something wrong....

I  make over 2000$ every month with  less than a 1000 images at microstock sites so maybe there's nothing wrong. ;)

I've now had 15 sales and 14 of them were 25c sub sales.  :(

I have had 3 refused out of my last 250 uploads.  I never upload more than a few at a time.  Maybe that is the answer, don't overwhelm them with huge batches. Reviewing is usually done in a couple of hours so it's easy to hold the images back until the first batch is reviewed.

or perhaps have a perk as only paid members are allowed to have a forum signature (and thus referral links)...   anyhow for the time being things will remain the same.

ideas and thoughts on all this are welcome!?

I think that you should be the only one allowed to benefit from referral links as a bonus for running and financing this site.  I will probably join 123rf soon and would like you to be my referral (assuming that I haven't already clicked on someone elses link without knowing it) but have no idea how to do that. Maybe you could put some links in an obvious place on the site asking people to click on them if they want you to be their referral.

Yes it's counting in the 'lower than last month' and 'higher than last month' figures

Anybody else having problems getting connected to Fotolia?

Thanks for the feedback.  It's as I thought  that even with subs the earnings per download aren't much different to most of the sites that don't do subs.

2459
I'd be interested to know what everybody's average earning per download are on DT?  Mine is 1.25$ as I have quite a lot of higher level images.  This more than makes up for the subs as my average doesn't reach 1$ on any of the other sites I upload to.  Also every sub download I get brings that image nearer to a higher level so subs really don't bother me at all at DT.

To all of you that are bothered by the Miz just stop reading his posts.  He's obviously been a help to a lot of people and if you can't see that his 'top secret' heading was 'tongue in cheek' then you need to get a sense of humour. Why do people get so offended by someone trying to have a bit of fun and at the same time help others.

Adobe Stock / Re: New sizes at Fotolia XS and XXXL
« on: January 31, 2008, 14:15 »
I've had about 20 sale today.  The first sales were at old pricing and somewhere between 2pm and 4pm the new pricing came into effect and all my downloads after this time were at the new rate.
Sales have been fairly normal for me today so those of you that are reporting low sales it's probably just coincidence.

No really folks, it is a picture of Bruce Willis.  He is one of the default avatars on this site.   ;D

Ok I feel a bit foolish now and a bit dissapointed. ;)

I've had a couple of XLs today at 1.95$.  Nice it brings it more in line with the other sites.

2464
Anybody else think that DanP68  is a double for Bruce Willis.  Everytime I see the avatar I think it's him, or are you using a Bruce Willis photo.  ;D

Yes but you can only see the last sale on the image you need to click on each image  to see any other sales that they have had this month

I must be dumb but where do you find this information without clicking through every single image that sold this month to see how many times it sold.
You don't have to. On "My earnings" page in the column "last download"  you can see sale's date and the price. Every earning egal or less then $0.30 is subscription sale.

My understanding of subscription price is that it really doesn't matter for the customer what size they download (they are charged against the submission the same unit). So why would they download a smaller size? The only reason could be their actual MBs.

Exactly, in my experience almost everybody downloads the largest size available which doesn't neccesarily mean that they would have downloaded a large if they had to pay normal price.

2468
Nice friendly site.  Sales are getting better and better there and you have the option to opt out of subscription sales.
Also the average earning per download is higher than some of the others, for instance I sell a lot more at fotolia but make about the same amount of money as stockxpert.
The inspection is a bit quirky, sometimes you get your images inspected in a few hours and sometimes it takes days or even weeks.

Not Bme  because of a slow start but last 2 weeks have  been great.

Yes I do it if I think that an image has been refused unfairly and nearly every  time it has been approved on the second attempt.  If I agree with them then I fix it before re-oploading or give up on it if I think it isn't worth the effort.

I agree that you want to be selective, but iStock is one of the big players in the microstock market. You can do well selling there.
I've only submit pictures to DT  and they should be reviewed in 68 hours, so I can still delete them. Do you think it's worth to try be exclusive on iStock or it probably wouldn't pay out as Big 6?

[/quote]

I upload to the big 6 agencies and get quite a bit less than 1/3 of my earnings from istock so to me it doesn't make sense to go exclusive there. Even at diamond canister level there (which means you have to have sold 25000 images) your commision would only double which wouldn't make up for the lost earnings.  The only reason that I can think of for going exclusive is if you hadn't got time or couldn't be bothered to upload to multiple sites

Fotolia take almost everything that I throw at them as do SS, DT, StockXpert, and BS but IS are getting extremely picky lately.
Sales are doing very well everywhere else  at the moment but IS have gone from averaging about 40 dl's a day to 20 a day which even the price increase doesn't make up for the loss. I almost  became exclusive at IS but find it depressing to even look at my stats there now and I had such high hopes for them.
I've recently started uploading to BS which is proving very good and is starting to make up for the loss in earnings at IS.

BTW am I dreaming or it's possible to earn about 600 or 1000$ for dSRL in one year term?(Right now I've got Konica-Minolta Dimage Z3).
You'll be glad to know that it's possible to earn that and more each month once you get established and have several hundred good stock photos up at all the big 6 sites. :)

General Stock Discussion / Re: Exclusive buy out advice needed
« on: January 24, 2008, 04:17 »
I suppose that they reckon that the more it sells the better the image.  The fact that an image hasn't sold on DT doesn't really mean anything though as it could have sold 100's of times elsewhere.

Thanks, if I know it's not just me I don't need to do anything about it. Seems to be working now :)
