Shutterstock.com / Re: Image Longevity?

Yes, my first full month on SS (August last year), I had over 250 DLs with less than 100 images. That was my BME, even though I've got over 250 images on-line now.

Would you believe it. With $67.30 of sales at LuckyOliver in April, it was my Top Earner, beating seven other sites including SS and IS!

I can't imagine this will happen again, but I suppose it's just possible that I'll have another good run before the 15th (shut-down day). Anyone else had a good time in the "Closing Down" sale?

... Just normal ebbs and flows ...

Yes, that's just what I always remind myself when I'm thinking that sales are dropping; "normal ebbs and flows". Being a bit sad, I always keep an Excel spreadsheet up-to-date with monthly sales at each site. The totals are all over the place but the linear regression line is (fortunately), steadfastly on an upward trend. Once I see this trend reversed, then I'll start to worry!

Yeah, getting more sales now than in months. Assume it is people spending tokens that will be worthless soon. May as well have images than tokens.
Yes, I've had $60.00 in sales in the last week!

Leo,

To make things easy on myself, I edit IPTC with the following workflow:

1.  Place the most relevant 7 keywords first to account for Fotolia
2.  Make sure there are 7 or more words in the description to account for BigStockPhoto.
3.  Try to stick to single keywords, rather than phrases, whenever possible. Multiple sites treat each word in the phrase as a single keyword.

It's second nature now.  When I submit to the several sites I am on, everything is ready to go.

I see you submit to StockXpert. They say to submit "up to 20" keywords. Do you know whether they just take the first 20 if you use the IPTC route? I recollect posting a query on the Forum about what happens when you exceed the "maximum" but didn't get a specific response. (I can't find the post now!)

Yes, I reached 251 yesterday too! Took me a little longer though, I started Jul/Aug 2007.

I think if you're exclusive, your "cut" of DL price goes up to 30% too. Just academic for me though 'cos I'm not exclusive, but having a larger upload limit would be nice.

But as has been said earlier - A way to go!

I've had 19 sales this year, worth $48.70 ($2.56 per download). Not earth-shattering, but if it stays at around $200 per year, I'm reasonably happy. I've also had one $160 payout and have $60-odd in "the Bank".

I've got around 800 images there, but the bulk are from my early "forays" into photography, so many are rather amateurish. The site is a slow earner, but somehow I like it there.

I've had a sale refunded on iStock. The next time I looked, the image had sold again with the Unlimited License option. I recollect iS telling me it was the same buyer. So, the perfect outcome!

Use the "Statistics" button in the Management Area. The second graph down will show DLs/Earnings for each month and a Revenue per Download figure.

LuckyOliver.com / Re: Problems at LO
February 12, 2008, 21:32
There's no doubt that the site had been slow and erratic recently after the infrastructure upgrade, but that seems to be improving now.

I recently passed 100 downloads there, so qualified for images in the "Sideshow". I logged on today and edited around 100 images for inclusion. The site "flew" along, faster than I've ever seen it. This together with the new payout structure is all very promising.

I've already had a payout from LO so had nothing to complain about, but it's very heartening when you see a site listening to users' comments and making changes. I think that lots of contributors like LuckyOliver, and are a bit perplexed that sales have not been what they were expecting. I've done quite well there, but genuinely hope that the site will "take off" in 2008.

Great move Bryan, and every success to you!

followed by LO, SS and IS.
Ed ...

followed by LO? Obvious typo.

Yes, it surprised me a bit too.

I am only a "bit" player (around 180 DLs in total so far this month), but the 5 from LO averaged $6.32/download. It was my best LO month since September, when I had 7 downloads averaging $11.06/download.

I seem to get more ELs on LO than anywhere else.

This is already my best month since last September, thanks mainly to ELs on LO, FT and DT.

DT is my best earner this month so far, followed by LO, SS and IS. BS, 123rf and StockXpert have all been a bit slow for me.
