I was with them for about an year and a half (2011 - 2012) - they invited me. The tax stuff is not that difficult, you'll get it via regular mail, complete it and sent it back. I uploaded several thousands of my 13k portfolio and some sales started to pour in. You get payed when you reach 10.000 yen (about 100 USD) and you will get the money 2 months after the one when you passed 10000. They "can do nothing about that, its company policy". Sales were ok-ish for a while, I was getting payout every 2 months. But then they went catastrophically down. I asked for some explanation, none given. I waited to get the last payout (for half an year I think - or close to that) and then I closed my account. I'm still getting emails from them, as if I'm still contributing. The last one said that they introduced levels (something like 123RF but simpler) and you'll get lower commission in the beginning and then if the sales go up you'll be payed more, the usual blah-blah.
I'll never get back to them and would not recommend them.

Question regarding mobile phone photography: how about shallow DOF images (outdoor portraits, food photography, others), action/sport shots, wildlife (200 - 400mm focal length needed at least)? And all other aspects that make a DSLR a must for stock photography? Apart for some extreme macros, the mobile phones will get everything in DOF with that small sensor and poor lens. How will it sync with your ProPhoto strobes? etc-etc-etc...

General Stock Discussion / Re: May Sales
« on: June 01, 2013, 18:06 »
SS - BME, both downloads and income.
IS - up
FT - down from last month, up from last year's May
DP - up, they really keep on growing
123RF - up as well, I comfortably keep my level 5
Photodune - BME
Veer - down
Alamy - not bad, but below 1000 $ (which I would label a good month at Alamy). Got some new nice RM work ready to upload.
DT - rock to the bottom
Bigstock - negligible
Canstock - the same

I got about 80 downloads at 0.15 the other day. I freaked out and removed ImageClick from partners.

RAW files?
Selling raw files? What would be the point in that?
if You onece proccess the photo (blond hair JPG), it is almost imposible to reverse. and make Black hair.

You clearly have no idea about how to use photoshop.

I don't see any professional photographer doing contract work for microstock money. Commissioned work is far more expensive.

Suffice to say this guy Bruce never had a business plan in the first place and become what is known as "an accidental millionaire" !

If you think this is the sort of entrepreneurs the industry needs, think again.

Digital Railroad failed big time with the same logic of putting photographers first, turns out buyers couldnt care less and only cared about value for money.

If you want to support a fair trade agency Alamy is still doing fine despite the recent screwups and lowered fees, no Lobos in their forums, and they even allow the F word !

Photoshelter ventured into the fair-trade stock photo business for a short time, but quickly beat a retreat. It's an extremely competitive environment and needs deep deep pockets.

And that's exactly what Depositphotos had, to become this successful. In fact they are the ONLY startup company in the last years to really climb among the top agencies. For me they are doing extremely well.
I expect Stocksy to be nothing more of what Stockfresh is - big hopes leading to nothing. I just don't understand how people think that the guy who run istock YEARS ago can make a relevant comeback nowadays. There are lots now who understand thoroughly stock photography, Bruce is not a miracle waiting to happen.

Sales are good. Level 5 here.

I have some uploads since January, accepted and all. They don't show up in portfolio. Anyone else with this problem?

Why not invite the former founder of Istock to extablish a new agency? Take all the good things that made Istock successful and make it better by not repeating past mistakes.   I would think any non-competition clause would have run its course by now.

former founder?  8)
I like that.

Roboz, not only Viorel is also Romanian, but he was the one to bring this stuff to our attention. So you see, not all of us are bad.
I am also Romanian. Problems?

If I had to guess, they don't want him promoting his own web site from his DT profile page so they disabled it.

Stop stirring the pot for a typo. It's yuri_arcurs, not yuri-arcurs.

The portfolio is still at SS.

General Stock Discussion / Re: December 2012 Stats Thread
« on: January 01, 2013, 19:04 »
SS - average increase (as in "the current month increase over the previous' year same month")
IS - bad
FT - bad
DP - increase
DT - bad as usual
123RF - BME (!)
Photodune - I've got a file in an Envato bundle so.... hm-hm... :D thanks guys!
Alamy - many sales of low commissions. That place is slowly going micro.

others - irrelevant.

Conclusion - noticeably increase over last month's December, an average month for this year.

Ranging from 20-something MP to 100-something MP :)

123RF / Re: They are their rules, why don't they apply them?
« on: January 01, 2013, 18:15 »
Frankly, the site is simply awful at displaying stats. I suggested many times that they change it (at least take some examples from ANY other significant agency), but it was like talking to a wall.

123RF / Re: 2013 is here - how about the promisses?
« on: December 28, 2012, 14:10 »
Did they change something with the credit levels?  My total has just gone up by 600 taking me well into level 5.  I am having a BME there but it seems to have gone up by more than I expected it to.

I'm pretty good into level 5 and having a BME too. Alright now.
Glad to hear it.  Have you made a decision about whether to stay or not yet?

Not yet, but in the worst case I will still be waiting at least 2 months to see how it goes. However, if the sales continue to be this good (and it seems that I'll keep my 50% effortlessly), I'll stay. It won't make any business sense to drop them, if they deliver.

123RF / Re: 2013 is here - how about the promisses?
« on: December 23, 2012, 03:50 »
Alright, so you made an average of the discounts they pull out of our earnings too. It's better, but still it's based on one's bad luck in getting discounted sales. I could have had four 0.870 sales instead of what I had and the situations would have been worse.
However, for an approximation is ok.

123RF / Re: 2013 is here - how about the promisses?
« on: December 23, 2012, 03:05 »
What is missing from that analysis is that 123RF gives massive discounts on our backs. In that regard, your L size sale will rarely earn you $1.18. The average is MUCH smaller and they will never tell you how much smaller in fact. You will never be certain about the money you'll get from them at the end of the month.
I'm at level 5 after this month but that doesn't make them less shady or their business practices easier to accept.

For example, four L sales from my yesterday's income are like this: 1.335, 0.870, 1.320, 0.935.
Yep.
