Stocksy / Re: Microstock photographers and Stocksy application

There's still room to select from applications already in the queue.

You give me my live back  :D

... the thousands of new images from ~500 new members.

Do you know that the 500 photographers for 2014 have already been invited?

Bad news for me :(

And the more artists join stocksy, the more the other agencies will have to treat people well, otherwise all the best work will "go stocksy".

Nice thought :) ... for me will work like that (if/when they accept me), I have an urgent need to release the other photographer inside me and a place to sell and be proud to belong.

Still waiting for the verdict ... don't know if this is good or bad, but last year I also have a delay answer and "reject" was the word.

Selling Stock Direct / Re: Is Getty worth to join in now?
« on: October 10, 2014, 03:13 »
Getty is like a micro site that every month sells 2 ou 3 EL.

I have lots of sales at micro prices and lower ... and they dont have volume.

The true is that microsites wont sell with volume anymore ... that's why I like the Stocksy approuch.

Now that submissions are closed, I've pretty much given up any hope of hearing a positive response regarding my 2014 application.

You are rigth, not receiving a positive response until now is not a good sign.

I am tired of microstock and Getty, maybe one day Stocksy will be the agency that I am proud off.

32
@Sean Locke: I should have known back from the days at iS, its not wise to get in a discussion with you, no offense..   :)  But re Getty, I think its rather usual business practice to not publish details about such contracts.
...
But Im getting back to being creative now..   ;)
Is that 'creative/economical with the truth'?
When what you should really be saying is, "you'll get 50% of what we get, but we're not telling you what that is. And anyway, some sales at Getty are really low, so manage your expectations."
For the record, I get 20% of Getty sales, and my share has been as low as 40 cents.

Mine as low as 6 cents

Could be correct to compare portfolios not people who earn money, and to compare image by image and sell by sell then to see the true :)

But to me the real question now is what kind of photography would like to do. I'm trying to curate my shots before shooting on the way they to be like Stocksy curated.
In the next years will come a huge Stocksy success and want to be there when it happens, also I want to be there on the way of this success :)

Yep, it's not about "who earns where what amount". In September, I have earned more royalties on Stocksy than on iStock (even considering the PP still coming). But less than on Shutterstock. But I have ten times more images (even more) on Shutterstock than on Stocksy. But none of the images I submitted to Shutterstock would have made it to Stocksy. And probably all images I have on Stocksy would not sell very well in the microstock agencies.

So... in the end it's the best to have as many different channels as possible to give most of your images the chance to find the right buyer at the right price. Not an "either here or there" or "this is better than that" thing.

True!
Just need that they believe in my work ;-)

Yes, I'm Bruce.  Come see my tattoos. :)

I knew it ... You never fool me.

35
Well ... let's wait :(

lets wait for what? the poop has already dropped. This rich nonsense stock site has too much money and not enough brains...lets let them be. I WONT FOR LETTING THEM WASTE MY UPLOADING TIME

good luck bruce, we want you to succeed but its kinda sh*t

No need to be upset, and no need to stop your business for stocksy ... I am waiting for an answer, not waiting doing nothing.

If they reject my application, life goes on ... I still keep shooting for stock (other agencies).
If they accept my application, life goes on ... I still keep shooting for stock (other agencies and stocksy) ... and I will be more happy.

36
Well ... let's wait :(

The funny thing is that I like Stocksy not for the money that they can give me, but for the fresh photo style they have and because I desire to be a part of it.

Really tired of traditional stock photos process and how agencies deal with photographers.

37
We have to respect the Stocksy's reviewers, if we want to get in.

We respect them but the term one to two months is from Stocksy information page for applicants so I hope they understand that we are concerned when we have no answer after three months. Such delay is a serious complication for some photographers because microstock is full time job for some of us.  I believe they are doing the best but each week waiting impacts all my family and it is very difficult for me.

No doubt that Stocksy will reject a lot of contributor application ... no need to wait for any answer.

If you photos are suitable for microstock, Stocksy will not want them ... if they are special for Stocksy I guess it will be hard for you to have profit with them in microstock (in this days).

My advise is only that you must run your business without waiting for Stocksy answer.

I understand you Paulie ;-)

As I said in some other post, the stock business continues to be attractive at the begining ... when we aim to earn $100, then $500 ... or even $1000. After that, and at this time, most of us will face the true and learn that is very hard to make more money.

I think most of the contributors who have earn more (many more) than $1000 are facing a decline in earnings in the last years. And will be rare the new ones that will reach what we earn in the good old years of stock.

The stock photo business in microstock is not dead, but is not profit anymore.

this is very hard way to make a living? really? compared to what? I'd say 80% of this planet's working population would just facepalm if they heard this.

If you don't get it ... I was talking about "microstock profit"

It's good to be optimistic, but microstock photos are commodity products.

so is the average person looking for work. if you are not pretty much an expert at something, you are gonna be just part of the gray crowd that's getting flushed down the toilet by the unsustainable economy.

Do you know what is a commodity product? Google it ;-)

I do, what's your point?

Good ... then you agree.

Canva / Re: Canva
« on: May 22, 2014, 08:16 »
I expect more, but I am very please with Canva performance in 2014, and for me this Canva approuch to the microstock business is fair and more secure for photographers, with 1$ for One license.

But Canva have to improve the support for Firefox browser ;-)

Lee ... I also like to reach that $1000 milestone in the next months ;-)

only for non-commercial use!

46
Present:
- Getty gives 35 million photos for free for noncommercial purposes (??? can we really define noncommercial this days ???)

Future:
- Shutterstock gives 30 million photos for free for noncommercial purposes.
- Fotolia gives 27 million photos for free for noncommercial purposes.
- Dreamstime gives 22 million photos for free for noncommercial purposes.
- ...
- Photographers all over the world gives all their work for free for COMMERCIAL USE (just for one year, just to lead all agencies to bankruptcy)

47
I will stop uploading.

I already fell that I am working for free, SS dont sell new content as they sell 3 years ago.

48
The app is only available to IOS but you can send photos from any camera.

I guess I am in the minority, in that I am glad to be getting an explanation, and some acknowledgment that they are cleaning up their act.  I have been posting here asking for those things and so have a lot of others and I am glad to see some response to our concerns.

Let me be clear.  I would MUCH rather have the money, but did anyone seriously think that was going to happen?

Well said ... but I don't want money that isnt mine, what I want is a better report of our sales.

This error is an opportunity to istock make better and detailed reports from all sales done in all of their agencies.

50
My ticket ...

Partner program recoupment.

This situation is not acceptable, how do I know that there aren't also some irregularities where istock is not paying me for the real licenced images? How can you assure me that this time you are making the right calculation of my royalties?

I demand a detailed account of day-to-day and image by image of the gains that are right and that you feel that are wrong in September and October 2013, and a detailed explanation of what was the problem that lead to the amount of $418,26 that you know want to to remove from my royalties.
