If it attracts buyers and gets me more sales then I'm not complaining :-)

Lets hope the initial inspection keeps out most of the garbage and most of the pep that get in know what they're doing.

It seems we want rejections lol. I know I do when I'm tired and submit something which needs more work.

I often submit to ss as a quality test. If they're happy, then I think the quality is good enough for other agencies.

I think the upload process needs to be more streamlined. Currently uploading, then having to select a title for each image and then another step after that is just tedious. I don't get the select title step. Why not upload then go straight to an edit page where you can finish the pics off and then submit. Because of how horrible the upload process is it takes enormous motivation for me to even bother submitting. I think Dreamstime and SS have got it right.

I heard ss are bringing out their own app for monitoring sales so maybe it has something to do with that, ie they are restricting access unless via their own channels :-s

Version 2.0 it's now out if the app crashes on start please reinstall it and it will work, it's a small bug related to iCloud integration and you can play with the app in browser on www.microstockr.com

Hey Paul, could you have a look into the shutterstock issue please. I think its affecting a fair few users

Thank you,
Mike

This has suddenly stopped working for shutterstock for me. It says connection problems when i try and access sales or refresh the balance. I've been using this for a year without issues so maybe ss have changed something? Is anyone else having issues?

Shutterstock.com / Re: Sales on Shutter
« on: July 02, 2014, 11:05 »

...
The growth rate described there is 34% in one year.  Let's assume that rate is the same today (I bet it's higher).  That means if you have a port of 5000 images, you would need to have 6700 a year from now just to maintain your share of visibility in the overall SS collection.  That's 1700 a year, or about 5 new uploads a day (assuming they ALL get accepted).

The following year you'd have to add 2238 to remain at that 34% growth rate, or about 6 new uploads accepted everyday.  Working even harder, not to grow but to just hold on to what you're making.

I wish I did the math on this when I jumped into ms.  Probably would have talked myself out of it....
Very interesting thoughts. I had not heard of the concept that shrinking "share of visibility" is what accounts for "hitting the wall" i.e. declining revenue in spite of steadily submitting. It makes sense to me though.

One bright spot though is that the 34% increase in SS images is exponential growth, and so it cannot be maintained indefinitely: Soon SS will reach 100 million images and so need 34 million per year to maintain 34% growth. Then SS will soon reach 1 billion images and need 340 million per year to maintain 34% growth. And so on.

Eventually SS would need trillions of new images per year to maintain growth. Unlikely, even if reviewers start accepting all LCV iPhone images with trademarks and logos in them. :)

So the rate of growth will have to begin to diminish someday, but when?

I think its scarier to think about number of images being added as opposed to % of port growth.

Ie even if the port growth is only 5%, if that 5% is equal to 1 million images a week, thats a scary number of images to compete against (unless your content is very unique).

I once sent a request to SS asking to be able to sort under the 2nd column on the page, "Total Earned", but got no response about that. That column still isn't sortable, which is a shame, since that would let you see which images have earned the most for you.

I asked them too.
They answered me that they will communicate my request to the technical staff
(It was more than one year ago)

Same here, Beppe. Do you suppose the tech staff wasn't technically able to do that??? Or it just wasn't high enough priority for them.

The change is a simple one that would take ten minutes total. It is simply a query change to one page.

No doubt you're right. But the point is... it hasn't happened. Must be that the SS tech team has other priorities.

I asked support for this too. Not sure why it isn't there in the first place though. Guess they have their reasons.

about 3% but I'm a micro stock underachiever...
you may just have a large salary outside of micro stock - doesn't always mean your sales aren't good :-)

I always find it interesting that the ones initially rejected, if I then re-submit, they tend to be my best sellers.

One image that was rejected twice, is now my second best seller, I may have made the smallest of adjustments after the rejections.

Completely random set of images they picked of mine. There's no pattern between them at all. Oh well. I'll see what happens for now. Nothing to loose with the ones they picked :-)

Ever since I avoided weekend reviews my approvals seem to be ok.

It could be that the weekend reviewers are more thorough and picky about little things whilst weekday staff are rushing through the images. I had some very valid rejections on the weekend as I had some dust spots which id missed and other rejections I agree with.

Saying that, often that's not the case and I don't agree with the rejection.

Well if it's any consolation used to get tons of rejections but they are falling off these days purely because:

A. I custom white balance each shooting session.
B. Manual focus everything (auto is just too inaccurate)
C. Blown highlights are avoided as are clipped blacks so hand held metering for everything.
D. Shoot everything on a tripod at ISO100

E. Most importantly I've done test shots at all apertures on the lens selections I have and found the optimum point for DOF and focus before circle of confusion sets in for each lens.

F. Never bother processing and submitting borderline photos.

G. Proper keywording so none of this keyword spam crapola.

H. A little selective sharpening (30~40% opacity) makes things look clean and clear.

And lo and behold rejections have fallen off and the ones I get I tend to agree with.  ;D

I also find small batches submitted often works wonders too.

I tend to wait for batches to get through approval before submitting the next one that way you avoid the scattergun rejection approach some reviewers seem to use.  :-
nice technique.

Has anyone else had a really slow couple of days? My sales on shutter have been tiny for about 2-3 days.

I normally downsize according to the size I think the focus looks good enough at 100% that I would buy it. Sometimes that's full size, sometimes and often smaller. Really varies on the shot. I think that's a good way to work.

Has anyone had any editorial sales on thinkstock?

Most of my sales on ss are editorial so its odd to only get rf when thinkstock now have all my editorial shots.

Thanks for asking that! I had no idea that editorial images were now also available on Thinkstock. In my case it doesn't look like they have all been mirrored yet as my Thinkstock port is about 350 less in quantity than I have on Istock.

For anyone else that didn't know about this, here's a thread about it on the Istock forum http://www.istockphoto.com/forum_messages.php?threadid=359870&page=1
Regards, David.

Thanks for this. I used the script Kelvin mentioned and can see editorial sales using that :-)

Also what's the deal with IS subscription. Has anyone had any of those sales appear yet?

By having large upload limits it'll allow ex IS exclusives to upload their entire portfolio quickly to DT rather than dribs and drabs. It also allows photographers who've never done stock but have a large catalog of good photos to upload their collection a bit quicker  (might not be the case but just a thought)

I have a couple for $1.83 should I worry?! :-s

Seems last time anything over $0.28 was a mistake.

I haven't had a single sale since the 3rd.  :-(

I normally get sales every couple of days at least.
