I'm just a humble gold vector contributor. I just opted out.

I'm going to give it a try. I REALLY don't like the 6 month lock-in that happens with Vetta files. I only had a handful the last time. I mainly do cartoons, and don't think a lot of them qualify honestly. I'm going to give it a trial run and see what the results are like.
Honestly, I think raising prices on anything at this point is a bad idea for istock. Maybe if they had the site more together, it would be better. I just don't want to opt out and be reprimanded in the search somehow due to "Best Match." 28

I am an exclusive illustrator at istock (since 2007). I clicked the allow Vetta collection. I'm now having doubts. On one hand, I don't want to lose placement (even more) in the Best Match Search. On the other, I don't want my files priced higher, so not to deter buyers and I don't want to earn an even lower percentage. What does everyone else think?

I emailed paypal to change my bank account info. They told me to contact Istock. I contacted Istock, they said its paypal's problem. I wrote istock back telling them that Paypal said I needed to contact them. They never wrote me back. about 6 months ago.

Maybe someone finally talked to Lobo about his etiquette.
Although, I'm still waiting for a "YOU ARE A CONTRIBUTOR TOO, AREN'T YOU!? WHAT IS YOUR REAL NAME?" 31

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Buyers Bailing on Istock« on: February 09, 2011, 14:41 »The Getty badmouthing IS has been heard before, it's not new. I'm surprised. I would think more people would have this happen. I had one today, but it wasn't quite the same. It is "Can I buy this from you, since Istock doesn't allow me to resell t-shirts with this design?" OBVIOUSLY, not quite the same as I mentioned before, and I will just refer them back to istock customer relations to discuss licensing options. Apprently people find me to be very emailable??? 33
iStockPhoto.com / Re: Buyers Bailing on Istock« on: February 09, 2011, 13:06 »I have thousands of images at IS, tens of thousands dl's... never had a single mail from a customer wanting to buy directly, except if they want somenthing special (i.e. Image exclusivity, same model doing another thing in a custom made shot etc). Never for license concerns or not wanting to buy small credit packages. So, a very different experiencie from what you happen to say. I believe I said every other month. I'm sorry you aren't receiving the emails. If you don't get them, they must not exist.. If they existed, SURELY you would get them too. That's how the world works you know. Everything is equal. Or wait... Is it? As for the getty reps saying what they said. Believe me or not, it happened. I reported it to istock with the names of the reps and they were going to look into it. It was the last Getty Rep meeting we had 6ish months ago. 34
iStockPhoto.com / Re: Buyers Bailing on Istock« on: February 09, 2011, 12:35 »I don't know who loop is, but he/she generally steps in to say that iStock isn't as bad as everyone is making them out to be. What you wrote in your post was very clear that it was the Getty reps saying that, not you. I don't think loop an admin - Lobo is pieman here and rogermexico is himself. Kelly Thompson would be instantly recognizable for his ability to stick his foot firmly in his mouth with every post HAHA 35

I'm just saying what the Getty reps told everyone.
Also, I would say at least once every other month I get a "Can we buy from you outside of istock" email from buyers. 36
iStockPhoto.com / Re: Buyers Bailing on Istock« on: February 09, 2011, 11:24 »
I'm actually one of the buyers mentioned in this thread. (Also a contributor) We have had Getty reps come to our company and tell us not to use istock. "They have no way of verifying if images have releases, and its just safer not to use them." Said the reps. That and a multitude of other issues have lead my company to seriously cut down on istock. Some teams keep it going, while others don't. They are going the right direction to make it impossible to convince people that they are still worth using. I get numerous emails from people wanting to buy my images directly from me simple because they don't want to buy an entire credit package for one image.

There doesn't seem to really be any point to contributing to the istock forums anymore, unless you want to talk about:
1. How FANTASTIC istock is. 2. How SUPER FAST the inspection team is. 3. Thank you istock for (fill in the blank). Anything against istock is frowned upon and if you post more than 1 negative comment about istock, you get the lil lobo sitemail threat. I wish I could post my lengthy back and forth site mails I had with him. They are awesomely ridiculous. But I won't to maintain my anonymity. Since there is nothing good to say about istock lately, there is no point in trying to post anything over there.. IMO 38

I'm a gold member since 07. My downloads have plummeted. Contemplating dropping exclusitivity as well.

Hey, just joined after getting annoyed with istock's forums. Or lack there-of. I've been a contributor for a few years now and also got a "I don't like you and I'm in charge" email from little lobo. I backed off before getting banned, but still. How silly is that? I sent an email about his lack of respect towards us, the contributors. Haven't heard back. Doubt I will. I'm just glad to see there are open forums in other places. Most forums I've ever been on have at least one of "those guys" on their moderation team. Its sad, but that's how the world works. As for istock screwing us over all the time lately, that's another story.
