Adobe Stock / Re: accepted images at Fotolia
September 22, 2008, 15:58
Peter if you will read my post again you will see they were rejected for overabundant catagory, not photo quality. You are successful on Fotolia so what I would like to know is are you geting more rejections these days or not.

Adobe Stock / accepted images at Fotolia
September 22, 2008, 15:25
I have just had 14 aircraft images rejected at Fotolia for overabundant category. It only took them 5 minutes from my uploading them to reject them, so no complaints about review times there!
My acceptance rate has plunged over the last 3 months and There have been a number of posts complaining about this problem. What I would like to know however, those of you more successful contributors, are you also seeing an increase in rejections. It can be very easy to complain about sites when you are not doing well , but I'm trying to see if the problems there are across the board.
I  guess the reality is, if they are rejecting for overabundance then I just have to shoot something else.

Down for me to. Can't access the site or upload with FTP.

since I arrived back in the UK 2 months ago, I have had nearly every submission to Fotolia rejected for one reason or another. I really don't know what they are looking for anymore. My acceptance rate on all the other sites has remained high, so I guess I will just have to manage without them from now on.

I started this post on Friday morning when I couldn't connect via FTP.
I went to the site, and there was a message that uploading was disabled till 8am Monday 14th.
I see some were still able to load, so tried this am, Sat, and it works fine. The notice at the site has also gone!!!!
Maybe they read these posts and thought better of it. Very strange.

I see they have disabled uploading till Monday again.
It seems every time I try to upload to them I get the same problem  :(

peep, you are correct. Saturation etc doesn't have any effect on the raw file. All that has to be done in post processing. The in camera settings only effect the jpeg etc, not raw data.

I cashed in 28 credits on 1 march, and they charged I credit for the transaction. I guess there is no charge if its 50 credits or more.

I have the cokin p holder that only hold one filter. That was made to avoid the holder showing in wide angle lens as far as I know. I have no problem with my 17-40 but thats on a 40d 1.6 crop so can't be sure .

Cameras / Lenses / Re: Canon 400D / Rebel XTI
February 19, 2008, 20:28
Mark, I started out with the 350d as it was good value because of the then new 400d. They both use the same kit lens which is not great, but the starter lens have been covered in another thread. I found it perfectly ok, so the 400d will also be ok. I eventually bought L glass for it which improved things, and then eventually got a 40d which is great. I still use the 350d at times, as its so small and light which can be useful at times. On a budget, the 400d and the 50mm 1.8 ( mine cost $69) will work well, and you can grow as the money becomes available.
Best of luck.

After my initial  batch of 4 was accepted in 3 days, I uploaded a batch of 33 on 13 Jan, and it was accepted today, 13 feb, so exactly a month. Glad to say they passed QC!!!

They have started rejecting all by boat shots as well for no property release. Also all my building shots, even when its a small part of the building. Seems like most of my images are not going to be available on this site at this rate.

Thank's for the feedback.
Much appreciated

When doing adjustments, ie. dust removal, curves, levels etc, on a tif file, is there any advantage in doing each adjustment in a new layer, and then flattening before saving as a jpeg, or as the tif is a non destructive file, is it ok to do each adjustment straight to the original Tiff image.

thanks.

General Stock Discussion / logos and signs etc
December 27, 2007, 15:13
I noticed that Alamy says that images with logos or signs etc can be used as RF as long as the logos are incidental, and not the main part of the image.
I have wondered about this before, as calendar images, and postcards etc often have shop signs, pub signs etc visible.
Is it just the micro signs being paranoid, as none of them as far as I know will accept an image with a logo visible. I spend a lot of time taking the name of a radar that can only be read at 200%!!
The fact is that it will not be accepted at most of the sites and we just have to live with it, but just wondered.

Alamy.com / Accepted in 3 days!!!
December 27, 2007, 12:33
I submitted my 4 QC test images to Alamy on 24 Dec, and got an acceptance e mail today, 27 Dec. I was expecting to have to wait a month!!
I'm happy to be accepted, and amazed at how fast it all happened. I don't know if I was just lucky, or if they will be as quick reviewing anyone else, but it has to be good news (as long as your accepted!!).
Cheers all.

Alamy.com / Re: upsizing jpg's
December 25, 2007, 12:58
Thanks Flemishdreams, the problem for me with disc space, is for 6 months of the year (now), I am living on a small sailboat, and use a laptop with 80gb hard drive. I have also an external 160gb hard drive which I back up everything to. Everything is also backed up to dvd.
I dont have AC power on demand, so can't use the large hard discs, although I could just use one for backup I guess.
I am definately going to keep the processed Tiff's from now on, even if offline on dvd's.
Thanks.

my originals are from a 10 megapixel canon 40d.
I have upsized 4 images and submited them to Alamy, so now just have to wait a month and see how things go.
Thanks everybody for your input.

Thanks for the input.
I will be using CS3 for upsizing, and as stated, intend to upsize the tiff file before saving as jpeg. I think I will only upload a few of my jpeg images, so  I can always reprocess the RAW file.
I have a few good ones I want to send to get accepted, so I want to get the best quality possible.
In future I will probably keep the Tiff instead of the jpeg as you sugested.
It would be a real pain if I wanted to do a couple of hundred though!!!
The plan is to mainly upload RM to them in the future (assuming they take me)
many thanks

Alamy.com / upsizing jpg's
December 24, 2007, 16:39
I am going to try and get in to Alamy, and have a question on upsizing.
My current workflow is RAW  - Tiff - save as jpeg.
I will upsize the images as a tiff file then save as jpeg, but I normally delete the tiff, and just keep the RAW and jpeg images.
This means that all the images I have at the moment are only processed as jpeg. Are there any problems in upsizing the jpeg for submission, or should I reprocess the RAW file and upsize before saving as a jpeg again.
I expect jpeg upsize is ok, as many of you only deal with jpeg anyway, but thought it best to check.
Thanks, Bob

StockXpert.com / Re: StockXpert rejections
December 19, 2007, 16:29
You may well be right, I have a large rejection rate at StockXpert although most of the rejected images have been accepted on IS, SS, etc.
Guess they just don't want my type of images.
