Shutterstock.com / Re: resubmitting on shutterstock, any tips?« on: February 19, 2014, 14:00 »
Just resubmit and leave a note to the reviewer that you have addressed all the issues noted on the previous rejection. That's usually all that's needed. Don't be surprised, however, if some of the images get rejected for a different reason. That seems to happen more often than it should.

Envato / PhotoDune Submittal« on: February 19, 2014, 13:46 »
I'm considering uploading to PhotoDune but it looks as if I need to put together a zip file of images for my initial submittal. Is this correct? I can select individual images, but it won't let them through, saying I need to select a zip file of my portfolio. What am I missing?

Alamy.com / Re: Switching License Type« on: February 03, 2014, 13:12 »
I agree with Jo Ann. Last year I requested Alamy to change about 20 or 30 images from RM to RF. They did that on all but two of the images. Those two had pending RM sales that did not show up in my stats. They did not want to make the change on these in case the sales came to fruition. The sales ultimately fell through and I was subsequently able to make the change.

Interesting that on the edit page when you first upload an image, the keyword phrases are shown connected as they should be. But once the image is accepted and loaded into your portfolio. that seems to be the point when the phrases are split up.

Getty should have waited until tomorrow (26 Dec.). Day after Christmas. That's national return day.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Question on copyright.« on: December 22, 2013, 14:13 »
In 2009 I contacted the Bank of England asking permission to sell images of English Banknotes, including those with images of the Queen. They basically said the images I had (I sent them copies) were fine and met their criteria; but, that they could not issue an authorization as what I was doing wasn't a final usage. I took this to mean I could still offer my images as stock, as I was not selling an image for final publication in a specific content, and it was up to whomever purchased them to contact the BoE for permission to use them in whatever specific content they had in mind. The following is a copy of part of the e-mail they sent me.
"Whilst the image you propose to use would meet our conditions for banknote reproduction, we are not able to issue permission for it to be used in this instance. This is because we do not give a 'generic' permission for banknote images to be used, but rather issue authority for a specific purpose and client. Therefore, we will have to decline your application. However, going forward if you have a specific use and client for the image to be used you can apply for reproduction permission again with this information." At least that was my interpretation of their position. Anyone care to comment or offer an alternative interpretation. 259
General Stock Discussion / Re: Maldives stock photos« on: December 12, 2013, 17:23 »
I went to the Maldives a few years ago. Lay on the white sand, snorkel in the lagoons, scuba dive the reefs and wrecks. Photographs? Just a couple of snapshots for the folks back home. Peace and quiet away from the rat race!
You'll fall in love with the place. 260

It's comparable to voting in US elections these days. You don't really vote for who you want. More often than not, you vote for whomever you dislike the least. Either way, you're screwed.

Shutterstock.com / Re: [Shutterstock] Is ftp working?« on: December 04, 2013, 21:28 »
A few days ago I had just the opposite problem. I tried to upload a single image via HTTP and it wouldn't go through. So I went to FTP and it went through just fine. Go figure.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Shutterstock - Facebook vs Getty - Google Drive« on: December 04, 2013, 21:25 »YOur example is stupid. Its nonsense. Choosing between death or death. Come on Ron. If you really read Jeff's post, you'd know the $10K figure was not microstock income, but income from his photo booth and related activities. He apparently did hit the 100,000 download number, which is not unique, but is sufficiently rare that it warrants a congratulation. 266
iStockPhoto.com / Re: No regular sales in stats« on: November 23, 2013, 12:19 »As you must know, in many cases the only way to see how a system works is to see what happens if you do x, y or z under real world conditions. Stuff like load balancing etc can be almost impossible to calculate and it is absolutely typical in the real world to be surprised or confounded by the results. And then there are all of the implicit problems and surprises involved with systems which have perhaps been added to over time or poorly documented. Sounds like a description of the Obamacare website. Is this why they rolled it out untested? 267
Image Sleuth / Re: Photojournalist wins 1.2 million $ in damages from AFP and Getty !« on: November 23, 2013, 12:14 »
There was a piece on the news yesterday where all the major and minor news agencies, from CNN to AP to NBC, CBS, ABC and others (some 40+) sent a petition to the White House complaining about restrictions on theirs and other photojournalists. Seems photojournalists are being restricted from decent access to the president and the agencies are forced to rely on sub-standard images or only use the "official" images handed out by the government. During an interview with one such agency, he admitted that they were oft times forced to use images from social media such as Twitter, Facebook and others. He indicated they just plucked what they needed off of social media and used them wherever they were required.

Photoshop Discussion / Re: Text in jpeg files« on: November 16, 2013, 14:33 »
I did a test a few years back. Put up an image with no text (and no additional white space for any text). It sold X amount of times. I then tried to replace it with an identical image except with white copy space added and no text. Image rejected for too much unnecessary space, customer can add whatever he needs. So I put up a third image with copy space and added text. That was accepted and has sold more than 10X the original image. I've never submitted an image with text over any part of the image except empty space for the reason noted above ... too difficult to remove.
For those sites that refuse to accept text with an image, I comply with their requirement. But those images never seem to sell as well as those with the added text. Keep in mind this is only my personal experience and may not be the same for others with different types of images. 270
Dreamstime.com / Re: TIFF in 120 MB resolution sold and earned only 35 Cent ??« on: November 16, 2013, 14:22 »Don't want 42 MP images sold for a sub, don't upload at that size, simple. The TIFFs there earn a bit more on a credit sale for no extra work, otherwise a sub is a sub is a sub and no different to any max size sub sold on any site. Actually I had a level 3 sub, JPEG, large, RF sell for $2.00 last week. First time I'd seen that. Still there today, over a week later, so I assume it wasn't a mistake. Have no idea why this image sold for $2,00 while all other subs are going for $0.35. 271
Dreamstime.com / Re: DREAMSTIME VIEWS« on: November 04, 2013, 21:03 »I dont believe in DT views stat. Actually for me, last month and so far this month, DT has become my no. 2 earner, behind SS. Took over that position from 123. Had several relatively high dollar sales daily over the past several weeks. If that keeps up I'll have to upload more to them. See if they will take some of my "similars" now. 272

Anyone notice the similarities between the performance of the IS site and the Obamacare web site? Must be sharing the same IT techs. We seem to be getting equally screwed no matter which site we pick.

Best month this year and today, more DL's on SS that any day in October. Good start to another month. Not a BME as last year as there was one month with multiple very high dollar SOD's and numerous EL's. Love to have one of those months again, but realistically I'm not holding my breath.

Ignore Jens. He thinks he's Hamlet's heir. ![]() Yes you can have separate accounts as long as 1. You take your own pictures/illustrations and you don't try to upload the same images in both accounts and 2. You each have separate e-mail addresses. The same e-mail address screws up their accounting. The fact that it's on the same PC shouldn't affect anything (if I were you I'd try to get my own PC, No point in Dad being able to see what you've been up to.). ![]() |
