In the future, all of the microstock companies will be owned by one individual. Me. All shall kneel before me, and agree that without Whiz there would be no microstock. Or not. I don't see why microstock would go anywhere. The only problem is that too many photos, illustrations; etc will be available. The increasing competition may make it more difficult to make money. This will be especially true for those who are just starting out in microstock photography in five years. So either microstock companies will raise their standards excruciatingly high, or they will start deleting images that don't sell(like Fotolia does).

Is it worth it to sell vectors on Shutterstock? Or do jpeg versions of the image sell just as well?

Make sure that you have the correct language selected in your control panel. Somehow I accidentally selected Dutch as a language once. Or maybe it was just a glitch.

Disambiguated? Do you mean tweaking your keywords? I tried the improving upon my keywords, and it hasn't made any difference for me. Maybe you'll have better luck, though. I'm currently experimenting with only using five to ten keywords for my latest batch. My other images all use around twenty to thirty keywords.

Weird. All of the photos in my latest batch were accepted. But I mostly shoot isolated objects so maybe that's why. Or maybe I just had a nice reviewer.

You could try using the blur tool to blur out the pixels. Or just buy a light tent.

I managed to get thirteen out of fifteen accepted about a week ago. I was pleasantly surprised too.

Well, if I'm hospitalized with anything serious then I will be broke for life(crappy health insurance). I live in the States.

I have 250 images on DT, and sell 1 per week. Low.
Same here. I need some affiliates.

well, i sure don't have that problem.... my monthly sales were easy to add up... didn't sell once in october on 123... of course I can't complain too much, i've only got like... 57 pix there or something like that... I'm kind of reluctant to upload more.... doesn't seem that 123 is a really large earner for many people... opinions.... should I load 'em up... or not bother... Your opinion is of value. -tom
I make next to nothing on 123RF with a hundred and something images. However, they do allow you to download your files for free. So it's kind of like having another backup of your files. Same thing with Stockxpert. And then there is the possibility of you getting an affiliate, so I would upload to either Stockxpert or 123RF for those reasons.

Whiz, here is a link for a very good depth of field summary calculator for the f-stop / subject distance / focal length relationship:
http://www.dofmaster.com/dofjs.html
Is this helpful?
Yes. The author of that webpage used a few too many Google ads, though.

In the beginning, I didn't even know what an f-stop was so I used the default camera settings(sad, I know). I think it was 2.8 or so. Now that I understand what it is, I use an f-stop of around nine for most of my photos. I've read that a really high f-stop can make the image less sharp. What are your thoughts?

I had fifteen or so downloads last month on Stockxpert with around two hundred twenty five images. With a hundred and twenty images on Shutterstock, I had around three hundred and twenty downloads at the end of October. I like Shutterstock. I guess the buyers at Stockxpert just don't want the types of images I shoot, so I'm just going to focus on iStockphoto and Shutterstock for now.

Maybe try submitting your photos in smaller batches? Like five to ten per day or something. I submitted eight photos on Monday, and they approved all of them. And I'm not as good as you are.

If anyone is looking for a free alternative to Illustrator, feel free to try inkscape. Inkscape's not as good as Illustrator, but it's free. http://www.inkscape.org/.

A light tent will help. Or you could use the lasso or magic wand tool to make a selection around the object you want to isolate. You could also create a new layer in Elements 5 and use the pencil or brush tool to trace around the object that you want to isolate. Then select the solid color image outline that you created with the pencil or brush tool and hit delete.
After this, make sure that the selection of the deleted object is still on the screen and switch layers to the image you want to isolate. Use ctrl+shift+i to reverse your selection. Then hit delete and your image will be isolated over whatever color you like(create another layer for your background color). This is a bit different in Photoshop CS(clipping paths), but it will work in Elements 5. Hopefully, I made some sense. You could also just use the brush tool to "wing it" if you like.

I don't do many illustrations, so I'm uncertain about this one. Basically, I traced Jessica Alba in Flash. Will I need a model release for the illustration? And if I do need a model release, how do I go about getting Jessica to sign one?

Zorki, I think you just had an angry reviewer. I have about an eighty percent acceptance rate at SS, and I only upload around ten to twenty images a week. Usually, I just submit them in batches of five. So like others have said, you should probably just submit your images in smaller numbers.

I've been having a terrible week at iStock. Anyone else? It's probably just me.

I haven't sold anything at StockXpert in about two weeks. But I never sold much there anyway; a green apple makes up about twenty five to thirty five percent of my sales. And just after I finished typing this message, I scored a sale. Figures.

Yeah, my portfolio has a similar problem. It's probably because most of my images are isolated shots. I probably need people or thousands of isolated on white photos. You have nice images, though.

If I'm inside using a light tent then I use just use manual control. But if I'm outside shooting landscapes, animals, or people then I will use aperture priority.
